The Gaden Phodrang Trust

The trust’s primary responsibility is to oversee the recognition of the next Dalai Lama. It is managed by Prof Samdhong Rinpoche, a senior monk closely associated with the Dalai Lama. The trust ensures adherence to Tibetan Buddhist traditions in the recognition process.
Historical Context of Gaden Phodrang
The term “Gaden Phodrang” refers to the Dalai Lama’s residential quarters at Drepung Monastery. This tradition began with the second Dalai Lama. Following the construction of the Potala Palace, the Dalai Lamas resided there during winter.
