Four Digital Policing Apps Launched in India
India launched four digital policing applications on 22 June 2026 in New Delhi. The applications are Abhigyan, Criminal Procedure Identification (CrPI), e-prosecution 2.0, and e-forensics 2.0. They are linked to the Integrated Criminal Justice System (ICJS), which connects police, courts, prisons, and forensic systems through digital platforms.
Integrated Criminal Justice System
The Integrated Criminal Justice System (ICJS) is a digital framework for data sharing among criminal justice institutions in India. It is used to connect policing, criminal identification, forensic examination, and prosecution management. The system supports electronic workflows in criminal investigation and case processing.
Abhigyan and National Automated Fingerprint Identification System
Abhigyan is a smartphone-based application for field police personnel. It uses fingerprint search through the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), which contains more than 1.29 crore individual records and about 1.3 crore fingerprints. The app uses two-step authentication and can identify a suspect in about 35 seconds through database matching.
CrPI, e-forensics 2.0 and e-prosecution 2.0
Criminal Procedure Identification (CrPI) combines facial recognition, iris matching, and DNA matching for identity verification. E-forensics 2.0 is designed for digital handling of forensic evidence, while e-prosecution 2.0 is used for prosecution case management. These applications form a digital chain from identification to evidence processing and prosecution tracking.
