Leader of the Conservative Party Liz Truss was named as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
The 47-year old leaderbeat her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak in an internal leadership contest of the ruling Conservative party, after Boris Johnson’s resignation in July. Liz Truss will be only the UK’s third female Prime Minister following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.

Notes:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the mascot and the anthem for the 36th National Games in Ahmedabad.
The mascot is named as ‘Savaj’ which means cub in Gujarati. The theme of the anthem is ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The National Games will be organised from September 29 to October 12, across six cities in the state.

The Gujarat Science Conclave of State Science & Technology (S&T) Ministers is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Science City, Ahmedabad.
The conclave will include discussions on the theme of ‘Doubling Private Sector investment in R&D by 2030’. All States and UTs will be asked to have individual STI policy on the lines of National STI policy.

China became the first country to approve a needle-free, inhaled version of a Covid-19 vaccine made by Tianjin-based CanSino Biologics.
China approved CanSino’s Ad5-nCoV for emergency use as a booster vaccine. The inhaled version can stimulate cellular immunity and induce mucosal immunity to boost protection without intramuscular injection.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed a former president of Kyrgyzstan as his new special envoy for Afghanistan.
Roza Otunbayeva, who also served as foreign minister of Kyrgyzstan, replaces Deborah Lyons, who stepped down in June this year.
