The Atlas Moth (Attacus atlas), the world’s largest moth, was recently spotted in Guddehalli, Karwar, in Davangere district, Karnataka. It is native to tropical and subtropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. The species is found in countries like Nepal, northeastern India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Taiwan. It is known for its massive wingspan that can reach up to 25–30 cm. The moth produces a type of silk called “fagara,” which is coarse and woolly. Its presence indicates a healthy rainforest ecosystem.

A forest department team recently arrested four people for illegally cutting khair trees in Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary, Uttar Pradesh. Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh. It stretches along the northern banks of the River Ganga and covers parts of Muzaffarnagar and Bijnor districts. It lies near the ancient town of Hastinapur, known for its cultural and mythological significance.

The Union Minister of Coal and Mines recently launched two digital platforms — KOYLA SHAKTI Dashboard and CLAMP Portal. The Coal Land Acquisition, Management, and Payment (CLAMP) Portal is a unified digital system of the Ministry of Coal. It streamlines land acquisition, compensation, and rehabilitation & resettlement (R&R) processes in the coal sector. It serves as a central repository of land records to ensure data integration and transparency. The KOYLA SHAKTI Dashboard integrates the entire coal value chain from mine to market. It enables real-time coordination among coal companies, railways, ports, and end users. It ensures transparency and faster decision-making through live analytics and digital monitoring.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) recently facilitated the first-ever air shipment of GI-tagged Indi Lime and Puliyankudi Lime to the United Kingdom. Indi Lime is mainly grown in Vijayapura district of Karnataka. It has received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its superior quality, strong aroma, high juice yield, and balanced acidity. Puliyankudi Lime is cultivated in Puliyankudi, known as the “Lemon City of Tamil Nadu.” The Kadayam variety has a thin peel, strong acidity, 55% juice content, and 34.3 mg/100g ascorbic acid. It is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, promoting immunity and digestion. Puliyankudi Lime received its GI tag in April 2025

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, along with the Ministries of Education and Tribal Affairs, launched the Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) in New Delhi. The Model Youth Gram Sabha is a simulated forum where school students participate in mock Gram Sabha sessions. It aims to promote Janbhagidari (public participation) and strengthen participatory local governance. The concept is inspired by the Model United Nations (Model UN) simulation held in schools. The initiative will cover over 1,000 schools, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and State Government Schools.
