Recently, scientists confirmed rocks from the Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt are about 4.16 billion years old using two radioactive dating methods. The Nuvvuagittuq Greenstone Belt is on the eastern shore of Hudson Bay in Quebec, Canada, known for its ancient rock formations. These rocks might be the oldest on Earth, rivaling the Acasta Gneiss Complex, which is about 4 billion years old. Radiometric dating helps track radioactive decay to estimate rock age. Most rocks from Earth’s early history were destroyed, making these samples rare.

National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June. Statistics Day marks the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a pioneer in statistics and economic planning. It aims to spread awareness among youth about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning for national development. The 2025 theme is “75 Years of National Sample Survey” celebrating its role in evidence-based governance.

Despite orders from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), illegal salt pans and creek encroachments still threaten the Kharai camels of Kachchh. The Kharai camel is native to Gujarat and gets its name from “Khara,” meaning saline, showing its ability to survive in desert and coastal areas. It is unique for swimming over 3 kilometers in deep sea to graze on mangroves. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifies them as endangered.

In a major action against cybercrime and Digital Arrest Scams, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) launched searches at 42 locations across Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh under Operation Chakra-5. The investigation found over 700 bank branches nationwide had opened about 8.5 lakh mule accounts without proper Know Your Customer (KYC) checks or risk assessment.Operation Chakra-V was started by the CBI. Its main aim is to counter international cybercrime networks involved in digital arrests, online financial frauds, data theft, and impersonation.

The first Hockey India Masters Cup 2025 was held at Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Hockey Association of Odisha (Women) defeated Hockey Punjab 1-0 in the final with a winning goal by Ranjita Beck to become champions. Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu (Men) won the men’s title by beating Hockey Maharashtra 5-0. Hockey Haryana won bronze in women’s category by defeating Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu.
