Machilipatnam is seeing a revival as nearly 48% work on the new Greenfield port at Manginapudi is completed. Machilipatnam, also called Masulipatnam, is a coastal city in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. It lies on the southeastern Coromandel Coast of India. In medieval times, it was a major port and global trading hub. Traders from different countries visited this vibrant town for commerce. The city is also known for its traditional handloom industry.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras recently launched YD One, India’s lightest active wheelchair. It is the first indigenously developed precision-built mono-tube rigid-frame wheelchair in India. It is developed by TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras and Thryv Mobility startup. It aims to offer affordable, high-performance mobility and reduce dependence on costly imports.

A rare electric-blue bird called Grandala was recently spotted in Sainj Valley, Himachal Pradesh. Grandala belongs to the thrush family called Turdidae. It is the only species in the genus Grandala. It is an arboreal insectivore, meaning it lives in trees and eats insects. It is found in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tibet, and China. It lives in alpine and subalpine regions at 3,000 to 5,000 meters altitude.

Recently, citizens including local youth gathered at Akurdi to protest against the Pavana River rejuvenation project. The Pavana River is located in the western part of Maharashtra. It flows through Pune city and divides Pune and the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The river originates from the Western Ghats, about 6 km south of Lonavala. It flows around 60 km before merging with the Mula River in Pune.

India recently sent a letter of request to the United States to co-produce Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) within the country. Javelin is a man-portable, American-made anti-tank guided missile. It is jointly developed by U.S. defence companies Raytheon and Lockheed Martin. It is designed to destroy heavily armoured vehicles like main battle tanks and lighter military targets. It can also hit bunkers, fortifications, and even helicopters.
