Committee on Public Undertakings selected firms for examination

As per the Lok Sabha Secretariat, The Committee on Public Undertakings has selected the Airports Authority of India, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Oil India Limited among the 11 companies that have been selected for the detailed and comprehensive examination for the year 2020-21.

Details of the Companies

The Committee on Public Undertakings chose 11 companies for the comprehensive examination for this year and these are – AAI, Central Coalfields Limited, Food Corporation of India, NBCC India Limited, National Fertilizers Limited, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited and IRCON Limited.

How will they be studied?

For the purpose of the study, there will be detailed review by the committee of the performance of the Public Sector Companies, performance under CSR by the Power Sector Companies, performance under CSR for the coal sector companies, corporate governance in CPSUs, Performance of Steel Sector PSUs, performance of CPSUs in the health sector, evaluation research and development activities of the Maharatna CPSUs.

Apart from these areas, five audit-based reports including related to the operational performance of the NMDC Limited will also be examined by the said committee.

Committee on Public Sector Undertakings

It is a committee of the selected members of the parliament, constituted by the Parliament of India, for the purpose of examining the reports and accounts of the public sector undertakings as per the government notifications. Apart from the Public Accounts Committee and the Estimates Committee, this is also one of the financial standing committees of the Parliament of India. It consists of 22 members, fifteen elected by Lok Sabha and the rest by the Upper House of the Parliament.
