Centre stresses on raising milk production to lift farmer income

Centre is laying stress on increasing milk production in the country from 155 million tonnes to 242 million tonnes to boost income of farmers in next few years. The present income of an average farmer is about Rs. 11,000 and the target is set to increase it to Rs. 23,000 per month.

The National Dairy Project worth Rs. 2,242 crores is being implemented in 19 states and is supported by the World Bank. Rs. 669 Crores will be spent on improving the breed of dairy cattle, Rs. 346 Cores on development of quality fodder and Rs. 825 Crores on setting up of chilling plants.
