Bharat Taxi Launch Set for December 2025

India is set to transform its mobility sector with the launch of Bharat Taxi in December 2025. This cooperative-driven ride-hailing platform focuses on trust, inclusion and advanced technology. The initiative is backed by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Digital India Corporation and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). It marks shift from global commercial giants to a citizen-centric cooperative model.

Background and Partnership

Bharat Taxi is promoted by major cooperative and financial institutions such as NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB and NCEL. The platform reflects the cooperative movement’s values combined with the Digital India vision. NeGD and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited formalised their collaboration through a Memorandum of About (MoU). This partnership aims to provide strategic advisory and technical support for the platform’s development and governance.

Platform Integration and Technology

The Bharat Taxi platform will integrate with national digital services like DigiLocker, UMANG and API Setu. This integration enables seamless identity verification and efficient service delivery. The technical architecture is designed to ensure interoperability with existing government digital infrastructure. This allows users easy access and smooth ride-booking experiences.

Security, Privacy and Compliance

A key focus is on cybersecurity and data protection. Bharat Taxi will adhere to Government of India’s data protection laws and cybersecurity standards. NeGD will advise on building a robust technical infrastructure to safeguard user data and ensure privacy. Compliance with regulations is integral to building trust among citizens.

Governance and Programme Management

NeGD provides governance and programme management expertise. This includes policy guidance and operational support based on experience with large-scale national digital platforms. The aim is to ensure transparent, accountable and efficient management of the cooperative ride-hailing service.

User Interface and Accessibility

The platform will feature an inclusive user interface with multilingual support. Advisory inputs focus on easy navigation and accessibility for all citizens, including those with disabilities. This ensures that the service is usable by diverse populations across India.

Impact on India’s Mobility Landscape

Bharat Taxi represents a new model of mobility that prioritises cooperation, transparency and citizen welfare. It challenges the dominance of private ride-hailing giants by offering a community-owned alternative. This initiative supports Digital India’s goal of inclusive technology-driven public services. It is expected to empower millions of users and drivers by providing fair, secure and accessible transport options.
