Bengaluru Police Launch Operation Mukta Against Illegal Immigrants

The Bengaluru City Police launched Operation Mukta on 8 August 2026 to identify and track suspected illegal immigrants across the city. The drive focused on suspected Bangladeshi nationals and involved early-morning raids from around 5:00 AM in multiple localities.

Operation Mukta and police deployment

Operation Mukta was conducted under the direction of the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner. More than 500 police officers and personnel were deployed in the Whitefield division alone, and the operation covered more than 30 locations under six police station limits.

Areas covered and document checks

Police teams searched migrant sheds and checked identity documents such as Aadhaar cards and Voter ID cards in Whitefield, Kadugodi, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Varthur, Mahadevapura, and Electronic City. The drive also covered 15 to 20 locations in the Electronic City area, including Hebbagodi.

Detention and verification process

About 40 suspicious individuals were taken into custody in the Whitefield division for document and background verification. Four detained persons were identified as Bangladeshi nationals staying illegally after foreign documents were recovered during the searches.
