Arunachal’s Boleng to Host Asian Rafting Championships 2026

Boleng in Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh will host the Asian Rafting Championships 2026 from 5 October to 9 October 2026. The five-day event will take place on the Simang River, a Class III+ tributary of the Siang River, and will bring paddlers from across Asia to compete in white-water rafting events.

Boleng and Siang River Geography

Boleng is a town in Siang district, which lies in central Arunachal Pradesh. The Siang River is the name used for the Brahmaputra in Arunachal Pradesh, and the Simang River is one of its tributaries with strong currents and technical rapids.

Competition Format in Rafting

Rafting championships commonly include Sprint, RX and Slalom disciplines. Sprint events test speed over a short course, RX refers to knock-out racing between teams, and Slalom requires boats to pass through a series of gates on moving water.

Organisers and Preparations

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing reviewed the preparations for the championship on 6 August 2026. The Asian Rafting Council, the Indian Rafting Foundation and the Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association are involved in the organisation of the event.
