Aadhaar Update Rules Simplified from November 1, 2025

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced new rules effective from November 1, 2025, to simplify the Aadhaar update process. Many demographic updates such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number can now be initiated online via the myAadhaar portal, reducing the need for physical visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras. However, biometric updates will still require in-person attendance.

Online Aadhaar Update for Demographic Changes

Under the new system, individuals can update demographic details online through the myAadhaar portal, provided their mobile number is active and linked to Aadhaar. The online process integrates document uploads and database verification, minimising manual checks and delays. These reforms are designed to make updates faster, more accessible, and paperless.

In-person Biometric Updates Still Required

While demographic details can be handled digitally, biometric updates — such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs — will still require visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This ensures data security and accuracy for physical identifiers. The UIDAI has stated that centres will continue to operate nationwide to support individuals needing biometric changes.

Revised Aadhaar Fee Structure

The UIDAI has also revised its fee structure for demographic, biometric, and document updates, introducing several free update windows for specific age groups.

Type of Update Description Conditions / Age Group Fee
Biometric Update Fingerprint, iris, and photo (i) Age 5–7 years – First time(ii) Age 15–17 years – First/second time Free
(iii) All other ages Rs 125*
Demographic Update Name, gender, DOB, address, mobile, or email If done with biometric update Free
If done separately Rs 75
Document Update Proof of identity or address Via myAadhaar portal (till 14.06.2026) Free
At Aadhaar Seva Kendra Rs 75
Free biometric updates apply only within the age windows defined by UIDAI.

Exam Oriented Facts

  • Biometric updates still require in-person verification.

PAN Linkage and Next Steps for Aadhaar Holders

UIDAI has stressed the importance of linking Aadhaar with PAN by December 31, 2025. Unlinked PANs may be deactivated, affecting financial and tax-related services. Cardholders are advised to verify their linked mobile number, check address details, and retain their Update Request Number (URN) for tracking future updates through the myAadhaar portal.
