35th National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 Announced

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under India’s Ministry of Power, has announced the 35th National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) for 2025. The awards ceremony will take place on 14 December 2025, National Energy Conservation Day, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event will be presided over by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. NECA recognises exceptional contributions in energy efficiency and conservation across various sectors.

Background and Purpose

The National Energy Conservation Awards were established in 1991. They honour industries, transport bodies, buildings, and institutions that demonstrate leadership in reducing energy consumption. The awards encourage adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices. NECA supports India’s sustainability goals and its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under global climate commitments. Over 35 years, the awards have encourageed innovation and set benchmarks in energy management.

Award Categories for 2025

NECA 2025 covers multiple sectors – industries, transport, buildings, institutions, and energy-efficient appliances. It also recognises innovation in energy efficiency. For the first time, a new category for digital content creators and influencers has been introduced. This acknowledges the role of social media in raising public awareness and promoting energy-conscious behaviour. This initiative aligns with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), encouraging mindful consumption and climate action by citizens.

Application and Evaluation Process

Applications for NECA 2025 must be submitted online via the official portal www.neca.beeindia.gov.in. The portal provides detailed guidelines on eligibility, documentation, and evaluation criteria. The deadline for submissions is 7 November 2025. Entries will be assessed based on energy savings, innovation, and impact on sustainability. State Designated Agencies (SDAs) also participate through the State Energy Efficiency Index.

Role and Mission of BEE

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency was established in 2002 under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. Its mission is to reduce the energy intensity of the Indian economy. BEE develops policies and promotes self-regulation and market-based mechanisms for energy conservation. It coordinates with designated consumers and agencies to implement energy efficiency measures. BEE’s regulatory and promotional functions support India’s transition to sustainable energy use.
