World Leprosy Day

World Leprosy Day is observed 30th January each year during the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Caused by bacterium Mycobacterium Leprae, it is among the oldest diseases known to man. If not treated, it creates physical psychological and social disabilities. India has the highest number of Leprosy cases in the world, followed by Brazil and Indonesia. More than half of the global cases are found in India.
