WaSH Warriors Honoured For Grassroots Water Leadership
The Ministry of Jal Shakti recognised grassroots champions of water, sanitation, and hygiene at a ‘Samvad Samaroh’ held in New Delhi, celebrating community-led progress under national water and sanitation missions. The programme underscored Jan Bhagidari as the backbone of India’s rural water security and sanitation drive.
National Recognition At Samvad Samaroh
The event, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, honoured 58 WaSH Warriors nominated by States and Union Territories under the Jal Jeevan Mission. These community leaders attended the Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path on 26 January 2026 as Special Guests. Drawn from Swachh Sujal Gaon villages, the awardees represented rural households, SC/ST-majority habitations, and vulnerable tribal communities.
Community Impact Across Rural India
A Swachh Sujal Gaon is certified under Har Ghar Jal and verified as ODF Plus Model under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). WaSH Warriors showcased how reliable tap water and sanitation have improved health outcomes, reduced drudgery for women, and strengthened community ownership. Field accounts highlighted time savings, lower disease incidence, and sustainable water practices adopted at village level.
Ministerial Interaction And Policy Emphasis
During interactions with Union Minister C. R. Patil and Ministers of State V. Somanna and Raj Bhushan Choudhary, WaSH Warriors shared on-ground innovations. The Minister emphasised that Swachhata is a way of life and cited JJM’s impact in benefiting over 9.5 crore women by saving an estimated 4.5 crore hours otherwise spent fetching water, with added gains in safety and wellbeing.
