Vinai Kumar Saxena Appointed New Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

Vinai Kumar Saxena was sworn in as the fourth Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh during a ceremony held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) in Choglamsar. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Saxena succeeds Kavinder Gupta and takes charge of the strategic Himalayan region with a focus on development, governance and tourism promotion.

Oath Ceremony at Central Institute of Buddhist Studies

The swearing-in ceremony took place in Choglamsar near Leh and was attended by senior officials, political leaders and dignitaries from the Union Territory. Justice Arun Palli administered the oath as Saxena formally assumed office. With this appointment, Saxena transitions from his earlier role as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to lead the administration of Ladakh, one of India’s newest Union Territories.

Vision for Development and Governance

After assuming office, Saxena described Ladakh as the “crown of India,” emphasising its strategic and cultural significance. He assured that his administration would work in accordance with the aspirations and needs of the local population. Saxena highlighted his intention to visit villages and remote areas across the region to understand ground-level challenges and develop practical and sustainable solutions for the people.

Focus on Tourism and Regional Potential

Saxena underlined Ladakh’s immense tourism potential, noting that the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage could position it among the world’s leading tourist destinations. He stated that strengthening tourism infrastructure and promoting sustainable tourism would be among his key priorities. The administration aims to enhance Ladakh’s global appeal while ensuring environmental protection and inclusive development.
