Vijayanagara district

Vijayanagara is Karnataka’s 31st district. Its formation was approved by Karnataka Cabinet in November 2020. The district is named after the capital of Vijayanagar Empire. It was carved out from Ballari district in the southern state in accordance with the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964. It hosts UNESCO world heritage sites Hampi and Virupaksha temple. The state government recently issued notification demarcating the boundaries of Vijayanagara.
