Uttar Pradesh to Set Up Digital Libraries in Gram Panchayats

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to establish state-of-the-art digital libraries in Gram Panchayat Secretariats across the state, aiming to strengthen digital education access in rural areas. The initiative seeks to ensure that students can prepare for competitive and academic examinations using modern learning tools without leaving their villages.

Timeline for Infrastructure Readiness

According to the Panchayati Raj Department, procurement of IT equipment for all districts is targeted for completion by 30 January. Furniture procurement for the digital libraries is expected to be completed by 26 January. Once both stages are finalised, the libraries will be fully operational and accessible to local communities.

Facilities and Learning Resources

Panchayati Raj Director Amit Kumar Singh stated that each digital library will be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity, LED screens, CCTV cameras, and computer systems. In addition to physical books, the libraries will provide extensive digital learning resources, including e-books, video and audio lectures, quizzes, and other educational content. These facilities are designed to support quality learning and self-study for rural students.
