According to the 2026 index, the UAE passport now offers visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 184 destinations. This places it ahead of traditionally strong passports from countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. Only a small group of countries globally now offer greater travel freedom, highlighting the UAE’s growing global influence.

Unmatched long-term progress

Over the past 20 years, the UAE has recorded the largest rise of any country on the Henley Passport Index. Since 2006, it has climbed an unprecedented 57 places. During this period, Emirati citizens gained access to 149 additional destinations, the biggest increase in the index’s history. Experts attribute this rise to proactive diplomacy, visa liberalisation agreements, and deeper bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
