Tripura Tops National Panchayat Advancement Index
Tripura has emerged as a national leader in grassroots governance after securing the top position in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0. The achievement highlights the state’s strong focus on decentralised administration, transparency, and effective delivery of services at the village level, setting a benchmark for local self-governance across India.
Top national ranking in PAI 2.0
Announcing the results, Tripura’s Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman said that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee in Sepahijala district ranked first nationwide with a score of 88.44. The ranking placed it above nearly 2.5 lakh gram panchayats assessed across the country. Two more panchayats from the same district also featured among the top performers, reinforcing Tripura’s overall dominance in the index.
Strong performance by Sepahijala panchayats
South Nalchar gram panchayat secured the third position with a score of 88.14, while Chesrimai gram panchayat followed closely in fourth place with 87.85. The clustering of top-ranked panchayats within a single district reflects consistent administrative practices and robust local governance mechanisms rather than isolated success.
Statewide efficiency and transparency
For the financial year 2023–24, all 1,176 gram panchayats in Tripura achieved 100 per cent data submission and verification across all required parameters. This complete compliance is rare at the national level and underscores the state’s emphasis on accountability, digital governance, and performance monitoring within the panchayati raj system.
