Five Things You Need to Know about TATA Zest

Tata Zest is all set to raise the benchmarks in the automobile sub-compact sedan segment. Yes, the new baby of Tata motors is a product that has defied many myths hitherto attached with the company. The company planned the Zest looking at the catching demand for cars in this segment. It was a calculated step which bets on huge turnover both in terms of money and goodwill.

The Mid-Segment Sedans: Zest has to compete against the successfully running models of reputed manufacturers. These are Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Dzire. Appealing to the common Indian who loves to live sedan-class life yet does not want to hurt the home economy is the main buyer of these cars. The models already on-road have found enough space in the customers share of mind and heart and thus need a big push to be dislodged. Unlike previous cars of Tata, Zest has come a long way and is definitely class-apart.

Things which you would want to know:

Looks

This was one peripheral which always put a drag on the sales of Tata cars. The company has, however invested a good deal of time and creativity as the car gives a very sporty, attractive and global appeal. It is endowed with a special trapezoidal bend in the front air vent which has lent an added element of elegance to the signature TATA Grille. Not to forget the LED day-time running lights accompanying the fog-lights area deliberate step to add to the envy of the neighbour. Going from front to rear one goes through a smooth transition as in words of Tata designers from the magnificent humanity line, to impressive side panels submitting mildly to the wrap-around rear. Adding to the presence are the Sporty alloy wheels. Lastly and above all the previous makes of the company, the dual-color interiors are sight-to-watch-for.

Performance

Zest stands to beat it all-the time, competition, mileage and expectations. It marks the beginning of real motor-making for TATA. It is endowed with 1.3 litre Quadrajet diesel engine more popular with the tagline of “National Diesel Engine of India”. Icing on the cake is the presence of the 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine which has been specially designed by TATA motors in collaboration with AVL. Power delivery being linear, there is zero turbo lag and super performance.

Comparison

Zest has overtaken its nearest competitors on most of the criteria of design, performance, connectivity, comfort or safety. It presents real-time fight for Amaze, Dzire and Xcent. Being the latest entrant in the segment the company has placed itself cleverly by working on all the drawbacks of the others and coming up with the improved product.

Price

Zest with the base model begins at INR 5,99,001 and goes till 6,99,000 for the topmost version. The features, the design and definitely the improvements done keeping in mind the others, the pricing is again smart and tactful.

Holdbacks

With so many plus signs in comparative study and otherwise, the company has done its homework well, it seems. However, there are two prominent red-flags which have found space. These are missing of rear-seat arm rests, door glass holders and a stubborn rear seat which cannot be flipped under any condition. These seemed to have been simply overlooked as they could not be deliberate.
