Thunderstorm research testbed

India’s first thunderstorm research testbed is to be set up at Balasore in Odisha. The DRDO, ISRO, IMD and Ministry of Earth Sciences are going to collaborate to establish this facility. The objective is to reduce human fatalities and property loss caused by lightning strikes. This comes in response to the hundreds of deaths in the state each year due to the lightning strikes.
