Telangana Launches Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme

The Telangana government has announced the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme in its 2026–27 Budget, aiming to provide financial security to families across the State. The scheme, unveiled by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, will offer life insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh to each of the 1.15 crore families in Telangana. It is scheduled to be implemented from June 2, 2026.

Universal coverage across all sections

The scheme is designed as a universal welfare measure, extending benefits without discrimination based on income or social status. The government has stated that the insurance cover will be available to poor, middle-class and affluent families alike. This broad inclusion aims to create a comprehensive social safety net for all households in the State.

Focus on financial security

The initiative seeks to address the financial vulnerability faced by families in the event of the sudden death of an earning member. Such incidents often push households into economic distress. By ensuring a guaranteed payout of ₹5 lakh, the government aims to reduce the risk of families falling into poverty due to unforeseen tragedies.

Welfare-driven governance approach

The announcement reflects the State government’s focus on welfare-oriented policies. The scheme is positioned as a step towards ensuring dignity and security for every household. The government emphasised that no child in Telangana should face insecurity or deprivation due to the loss of a family’s primary breadwinner.
