Tamil Nadu Partners Sarvam AI for Sovereign AI Park

The Tamil Nadu government has signed a landmark agreement with “Sarvam AI” to establish India’s first full-stack Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Park. With an initial investment of ₹10,000 crore, the project marks one of the country’s most ambitious state-led initiatives in AI infrastructure, aimed at building trusted, domestically governed artificial intelligence systems.

State-Led Push for Sovereign AI

The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Chief Minister “M. K. Stalin”, signalling Tamil Nadu’s intent to play a leadership role in India’s AI future. The project is expected to generate over 1,000 high-skilled jobs and strengthen national capabilities in developing secure, ethical, and accountable AI technologies within India’s regulatory framework.

A Dedicated District for Full-Stack AI

Planned as a purpose-built AI district, the Sovereign AI Park will integrate high-performance computing infrastructure, secure data frameworks, advanced AI model research laboratories, and innovation clusters. A specialised institute focused on AI in governance will support applications in public administration and citizen services. The full-stack design ensures that data, models, and compute resources remain within the state’s trust boundary, prioritising data security and ethical deployment.

Policy Vision and Sectoral Applications

Industries Minister “T. R. B. Rajaa” said the initiative reflects the state’s ambition to actively shape AI development rather than merely adopt it. The park is expected to enable large-scale AI deployment across sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, and citizen engagement, while also providing a fertile ecosystem for startups and technology firms.

Kamakoti” noted that anchoring sovereign AI infrastructure in the state would enable students and researchers to become global creators of AI. Sarvam AI co-founder “Pratyush Kumar” added that the partnership aims to move AI from experimentation to real-world impact, reinforcing the project’s strategic importance within the broader IndiaAI Mission.
