Shigmotsav

Shigmotsav

Shigmotsav is a Goan festival that celebrates the harvest of paddy and the coming of spring season. It is celebrated by the local agricultural tribal communities-  Kunbis, Gawdas and Velips. It is known as ‘Shigmo’ in Konkani and the celebrations last a fortnight in March to April every year. Romta Mell, a ceremonial procession that moves from one village to another is a highlight of this festival. To promote tourism, the state government started the tradition of organising float parades during the festival.
