Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is a prestigious national-level award instituted to acknowledge outstanding contributions in diverse scientific domains. The award reflects the government’s emphasis on promoting scientific excellence and encouraging innovation-driven growth.
Eligibility criteria
The awards are open to scientists, technologists and innovators working in government institutions, private organisations or even independently. Individuals who have made path-breaking contributions through research, discovery or innovation in any field of science and technology are eligible. Additionally, Persons of Indian Origin residing abroad who have contributed significantly to Indian communities or national development are also considered for the award.
Categories of awards
The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar is presented under four distinct categories. Vigyan Ratna is awarded for lifetime achievements in science and technology. Vigyan Shri recognises distinguished contributions in the field. Vigyan Yuva–Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar is aimed at young scientists below 45 years who demonstrate exceptional promise. Vigyan Team honours collaborative research efforts by groups of three or more members, highlighting the importance of teamwork in scientific progress.
