The correct answer is Meerut. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on 2 January 2022. The university is being set up at an estimated cost of ₹700 crores at Salawa and Kaili villages in Sardhana town, Meerut. It will have a capacity for training 1,080 sportspersons (540 male and 540 female) and include modern infrastructure like synthetic hockey and football grounds, among others.

Former France Footballer Samuel Umtiti, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, announced his retirement on 16 September 2025 at age 31. He began his professional career at Lyon, after moving from Cameroon to France. Umtiti joined Barcelona in 2016, winning two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey trophies. He scored the winning goal in the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Belgium, helping France lift the trophy. He is the fifth 2018 World Cup winner to retire, after Raphael Varane, Blaise Matuidi, Adil Rami, and Steve Mandanda.

Recently, the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex was inaugurated in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was built at a cost of ₹825 crore, it is India’s largest and one of the world’s most modern sports complexes. The complex was developed as part of the vision to create world-class sports infrastructure in the country. Ahmedabad, already home to Narendra Modi Stadium and the upcoming Sardar Patel Sports Complex, is emerging as a major sports hub. The city will host the World Police and Fire Games in 2029 and is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics with 13 international tournaments lined up.

Insuknawr, a strength-testing sport using bamboo rods, is traditionally played by the Mizo tribe. Thoda, an archery-based sport incorporating dance and tradition, is practiced by Himachali tribal groups. Dhopkhel, however, is a traditional game from Assam, typically associated with Assamese culture rather than the Bodo tribe. Therefore, only pairs 1 and 3 are correctly matched.

Amit Mishra, former India leg-spinner, announced retirement from professional cricket at age 42. Career spanned nearly 25 years, with last competitive cricket in 2024 IPL for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Mishra played for Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and LSG in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He holds record of three IPL hat-tricks, making him the only bowler with this achievement. He represented India in 22 Tests (76 wickets), 36 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 10 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He was part of India’s winning squad in 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and runner-up in 2014 ICC World T20.

The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) launched the Bhogeswar Baruah National Sports Award on September 3, 2025 in Guwahati. The awards honour Bhogeswar Baruah, Assam’s first Asian Games gold medallist and Arjuna Awardee. Awards will be given annually in six categories: Best Sportsperson, Emerging Player, and Lifetime Achievement at National and State levels. National awardees are Manu Bhaker (Best Sportsperson), Sunil Chhetri (Lifetime Achievement) and Bedabrat Bharali (Emerging Player). Assam awardees are Lovlina Borgohain (Best Sportsperson), Dipankar Bhattacharya (Lifetime Achievement) and Priyanuj Bhattacharya (Emerging Player).

National Sports Day 2025 is celebrated in India from August 29 to 31 under the Fit India Mission, led by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. The event honours hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. Celebrations follow the theme “Ek Ghanta, Khel ke Maidan Main”, promoting at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity to fight lifestyle diseases. The programme promotes Olympic values: Excellence, Friendship, Respect, and Paralympic values: Courage, Determination, Inspiration, Equality.

Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s Test specialist, announced retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24, 2025. The 37-year-old last played a Test over two years ago, with his final First Class match being Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal loss in February 2025. He played 103 Test matches for India, scoring 7195 runs at an average of 43.60, with 19 hundreds and 35 fifties. Pujara was the hero of India’s 2018–19 historic Test series win in Australia, scoring 521 runs and facing 1258 balls. He finished with 21301 First Class runs, 18 double hundreds, and three triple hundreds.
