The Krishna River has the largest drainage area in Karnataka, covering approximately 59.48% of the state’s total geographical area. The basin covers about  within Karnataka. It is the longest river in the state, flowing for about 480 km within Karnataka.

Karnataka has four Ramsar sites: Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Magadi Kere Conservation Reserve, Ankasamudra Bird Conservation Reserve, and Aghanashini Estuary. Ranganathittu was declared in August 2022. The other three were added recently in 2024. The state is working to add two more sites as wetlands of international importance.

Agara Lake is an 80-acre lake situated in Agara, Bangalore. It is part of the Varthur lake series in Bangalore. The lake is located downstream of Madiwala Lake and upstream of Bellandur Lake. Agara Lake is known for being well maintained compared to other lakes in Bangalore, a major city in Karnataka state.

The Hutti gold mines in Raichur district produce around 84% of India’s gold. These mines are among the oldest and most significant gold sources in Karnataka. The Geological Survey of India operates the Hutti Gold Mines Limited. Other minerals such as iron ore, coal, and limestone are mined in different regions of Karnataka, but gold is specifically extracted at Hutti and Raichur.

Gogi mine located in Yadgir district, Karnataka, is known for its uranium ore deposits. It has uranium of higher quality compared to other mines in India. Karnataka is one of the Indian states with uranium mining operations. The Gogi uranium mine contributes to the country’s nuclear fuel resources. Uranium mining in Karnataka started after exploring the deposits found in this region.

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) was established in 1984 under the Department of Defence Research and Development (DR&D) within India’s Ministry of Defence. ADA is headquartered in Bangalore and is responsible for the development of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme.

Karnataka’s share in cement production is approximately 6.51%, positioning it competitively among leading states.

Yermarus Thermal Power Station is situated in Yermarus village of Raichur district, Karnataka. It is a coal-based plant owned by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). Raichur district is known for its significant contribution to Karnataka’s thermal power generation through this facility.
