Recently, conflict between humans and Himalayan brown bears has been rising across the Himalayas. The Himalayan brown bear is also called Himalayan red bear, isabelline bear, or Dzu-Teh and is a subspecies of the brown bear. It is mainly found in northwestern and central Himalayas in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. In India, it is found in small, isolated populations in alpine and subalpine habitats of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) conservation status is Critically Endangered.

Notes:
Uttar Pradesh state government has created a ceramic waste park named ‘Anokhi Duniya’ in Bulandshahr district, Khurja. It is the world’s first park built entirely from ceramic waste. The park is expected to open to the public by the end of September 2025. Project is part of the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative to promote traditional industries globally. The initiative highlights traditional ceramic heritage while promoting waste-to-art sustainability.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the International Conference on Space 2025 in Bengaluru, highlighting India’s transformative space goals. India aims to establish a Bharatiya Space Station by 2035 and send an Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040. The conference, themed “Harnessing Space for Global Progress: Innovation, Policy, and Growth,” hosted more than 500 delegates including government officials, industry leaders, academics, and startups. The conference was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), it focused on India’s evolving space strategy.

CP Radhakrishnan, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee, was elected as the 15th Vice President of India on 10th September 2025. He defeated Justice B Sudershan Reddy, the candidate of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc. The Vice President’s office was vacant since July 21 after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned due to health reasons. Born on 20th October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 2024. He earlier served as Governor of Jharkhand, with additional charge of Telangana and Puducherry.

Swachh Vayu Survekshan (SVS) 2025 is an annual survey by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) under National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). It evaluates 130 cities on eight parameters like road dust, solid waste, vehicular and industrial emissions, construction and demolition (C&D) waste, public awareness, and particulate matter reduction. Indore topped million-plus-population cities, followed by Jabalpur and Agra/Surat. Navi Mumbai ranked 4th, Kanpur 5th, Bhopal 6th, Delhi 32nd, Bengaluru 36th, Kolkata 38th, and Chennai 41st. In 3–10 lakh category, Amravati ranked first; in under 3 lakh category, Dewas ranked first. PM10 levels reduced in 103 cities, with Mumbai showing the highest decline (44%), followed by Kolkata (37%), Hyderabad and Bengaluru (26%), Delhi (15%), and Chennai (12%).

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta inaugurated the SARAS Livelihood Fair at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium, Delhi. The fair is organised by the Union Ministry of Rural Development from September 5 to 22, 2025. More than 400 ‘Lakhpati Didis’ from Self-Help Groups are showcasing their products, food, and crafts.

During Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army used its indigenous M-Sigma app on SAMBHAV (Secure Army Mobile Bharat Version) smartphones for secure communication. SAMBHAV replaced foreign apps like WhatsApp to prevent external surveillance. The system was launched in 2023 as India’s first fully indigenous secure mobile communication ecosystem. It supports 5G connectivity, multi-tier encryption, and network-agnostic operation for real-time secure communication. M-Sigma allows soldiers to exchange images, videos, and files safely. Nearly 30,000 SAMBHAV-enabled handsets were deployed by early 2024 among army officers. It was also used during military-level talks with China, ensuring secure diplomacy.

Union Education Minister inaugurated India’s first overseas Atal Innovation Centre at IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus during a two-day UAE visit on September 10-11. The visit aims to deepen India-UAE cooperation in education, innovation, and academic excellence. Two academic programs were launched: Ph.D. in Energy and Sustainability and B.Tech in Chemical Engineering. The initiative is under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), India’s flagship program for innovation and entrepreneurship. The centre will promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and strengthen the Indian diaspora’s access to quality education in the UAE.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is set to begin on September 30, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The ICC released its flagship campaign film ‘Will to Win’, highlighting determination and perseverance. It portrays their journeys, early dreams, and relentless efforts, reflecting the spirit of women’s cricket. The campaign honors the sacrifices, aspirations, and legacy of women cricketers. The World Cup final will be held on November 2, 2025, in India.

World First Aid Day 2025 is observed on September 13 with the theme “First Aid and Climate Change.” It falls on the second Saturday of September every year. The day is established by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to raise awareness on first aid. It highlights the importance of first aid in saving lives and managing emergencies, including climate-related disasters like floods, heatwaves, and wildfires. Since 2000, it promotes training in skills such as CPR, choking relief, bleeding control, burn care, recovery position, and fracture support. The day encourages individuals and communities to get trained, spread awareness, and enhance resilience against emergencies.
