The ‘Solar PV Potential Assessment of India (Ground-Mounted)’ report was launched by the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). The report provides a policy-linked, investment-ready framework to guide project siting, infrastructure development, and private sector participation in solar energy. India has crossed 250 GW of non-fossil fuel installed capacity and aims for 500 GW by 2030, energy independence by 2047, and net-zero emissions by 2070. At least one member of 87% of eligible families in Uttar Pradesh holds an Ayushman card. So far, 5.38 crore cards have been distributed, making UP the top state in implementation. This was shared during Ayushman Bharat Diwas, marking seven years of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). Special programmes and health camps were organised to issue new Ayushman cards to eligible beneficiaries.

Recently, UNESCO placed the Varkala Cliff in Kerala on its tentative list of World Heritage Sites. It is located in Varkala town, Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The cliff exposes the Warkalli Formation of the Mio-Pliocene age, dating from 13 lakh to 2.5 crore years ago. It is locally known as Sivagiri Thuruthu. The cliff has laterite and sedimentary layers with fossils and traces of ancient climates. It serves as a crucial aquifer, supports biodiversity, underwater reefs, and coastal fishing. It is India’s 27th national geological monument and the second in Kerala after Angadipuram Laterite.

Haryana has launched the Khel Yatra textbook for Class 6 teachers in government schools. The initiative is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). The textbook aims to enhance physical education and health awareness among students. It provides teachers with structured guidance to promote fitness, sports activities, and healthy lifestyle habits. The program supports the holistic development of students, focusing on both physical and mental well-being.

Recently, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the Environmental Accounting on Forest 2025 Report on 25th September 2025 during the 29th Conference of Central and State Statistical Organizations (CoCSSO) in Chandigarh. From 2010-11 to 2021-22, forest cover increased by 17,444.61 sq. km, reaching 7.15 lakh sq. km (21.76% of India’s area). Major gains were recorded in Kerala with 4,137 sq. km, Karnataka with 3,122 sq. km and Tamil Nadu with 2,606 sq. km. Between 2013 and 2023, forest extent increased by 3,356 sq. km mainly due to reclassification and boundary adjustments. The highest rise in Recorded Forest Area share was in Uttarakhand with 6.3%, Odisha with 1.97% and Jharkhand with 1.9%. Provisioning services value grew from ₹30.72 to ₹37.93 thousand crore between 2011-12 and 2021-22 which is about 0.16% of GDP.

The 12th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS-XII) was held at Doon University, Dehradun on 26 September. Sustainable Mountain Development Summit is a flagship annual summit addressing ecological, economic, and social challenges of the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR). It is organised by the Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI), a civil society-led network. The aim is to promote sustainable Himalayan development, strengthen community participation, and blend science with traditional wisdom.

World Heart Day is observed every year on September 29. The day raises awareness about heart diseases and preventive measures to manage cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) globally. The day promotes healthy lifestyles to prevent and control heart-related ailments. The theme for World Heart Day 2025 is “Don’t Miss a Beat”. It stresses continuous vigilance in heart health through healthy habits, regular check-ups, timely medical attention, and awareness of warning signs. The goal is to reduce deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases worldwide.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) recently mandated all foreign nationals studying in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and universities in India to register on the Study In India (SII) portal. The SII portal is a flagship project of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India to attract international students to Indian universities. It provides a single-window interface for application submission, admission, and student visa processing for regular, short-term, or long-term courses. It provides information on academic facilities, research support, and related services.

The Border Security Force (BSF) launched a new AI (Artificial Intelligence) and GIS (Geographic Information System) command system at its headquarters. The system is named Decision Support System (DSS) to improve decision-making for commanders at all levels. DSS integrates GIS platform, legacy operations, incident database, and sensor feeds to form a Complete Operating Picture (COP). It enables monitoring, predictive trend analysis, and AI/ML-based operations to predict smuggling hotspots and infiltration routes. DSS aids resource allocation, operational planning and execution along India’s 6,000 km border with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Senior Advocate R. Venkataramani was re-appointed as Attorney General (AG) of India on September 26, 2025 for two years, effective October 1, 2025. His present three-year term ends on September 30, 2025. He had succeeded K.K. Venugopal as AG on September 30, 2022. The Attorney General is a constitutional post appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Union Government. The Attorney General can appear in any court of India and advises the government on complex legal matters. His expertise covers constitutional law, indirect taxes, human rights, civil, criminal, consumer, and service laws.
