Haryana has launched the Khel Yatra textbook for Class 6 teachers in government schools. The initiative is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). The textbook aims to enhance physical education and health awareness among students. It provides teachers with structured guidance to promote fitness, sports activities, and healthy lifestyle habits. The program supports the holistic development of students, focusing on both physical and mental well-being.

The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) under the Ministry of Culture hosted the sixth edition of Nadi Utsav from 25th to 27th September 2025 at its Janpath premises, New Delhi. The festival celebrated rivers as lifelines of ecology and culture. It was inaugurated on 25th September by Union Jal Shakti Minister. The event featured seminars, films, performances, and exhibitions highlighting rivers’ ecological and cultural significance.

On 25 September 2025, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal flagged off India’s first fleet of electric heavy trucks with swappable batteries at Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Maharashtra. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) now has the largest electric vehicle (EV) truck fleet at any Indian port. 50 electric heavy trucks were launched, with expansion to 80 by year-end. A heavy-duty battery swapping station was commissioned for operations. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) ranks in the World Bank’s Top 25 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI). The launch marks a major step towards sustainable and green logistics in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam’s (ASHVINI) Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP) in Banswara, Rajasthan. The project has an investment of approximately ₹42,000 crore and will be one of India’s largest nuclear plants, supplying reliable base-load energy. The project comprises four indigenous 700 megawatt (MW) Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), also called IPHWR 700, designed by Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL). It is part of India’s “fleet mode” initiative with ten identical 700 MW reactors being built nationwide for cost efficiency and faster deployment.

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) has been nominated as a United Nations (UN) Centre of Excellence (COE) for Artificial Intelligence (AI), capacity building, and skilling. The nomination was announced by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S Krishnan at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York. The Centre of Excellence will operate under the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (ODET) to support the Global South in AI capacity building. India’s AI mantra is “capacity is the new connectivity” to bridge global AI gaps.

Indian travelers can now use Unified Payments Interface (UPI) apps to make purchases in Qatar, the eighth country to adopt UPI for international payments. Qatar Duty Free is the first merchant to accept QR code-based UPI transactions. NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), Qatar National Bank (QNB), and Japanese gateway NETSTARS enabled UPI at select point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Other countries with UPI access include Bhutan, France, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and United Arab Emirates. The move promotes a globally interoperable payment network and cross-border digital transactions.

The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons every year on 26th September. The day raises awareness about nuclear dangers and promotes complete elimination of nuclear weapons. The first celebration of the day was on 26th September 2014. As of 2025, approximately 12,241 nuclear weapons exist worldwide. Countries with nuclear weapons are investing in well-funded, long-term modernization of their arsenals. More than 50% of the global population lives in countries that possess nuclear weapons or are part of nuclear alliances.

President Vladimir Putin announced Russia will launch the world’s first nuclear power system with a closed fuel cycle by 2030. The system will reuse up to 95% of spent fuel, reducing radioactive waste and lowering uranium demand. The project will be built in the Tomsk Region and tested at a new research centre in Ulyanovsk. The announcement was made at World Atomic Week in Moscow, with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi present.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched ‘NORKA Care’, a health and accident insurance scheme for Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) and Keralite students abroad. The scheme is under NORKA Roots and will be operational from Kerala Piravi Day (November 1, 2025). NRKs and students with NORKA ID cards will get Rs 5 lakh health insurance and Rs 10 lakh accident cover. The scheme offers low premiums, coverage for pre-existing diseases, and no waiting periods. It aims to ensure safety, welfare, and medical access for expatriate Malayalis.

Recently, a report by Just Rights for Children (JRFC) showed child marriage in India declined by 69% for girls and 72% for boys. The report ‘Tipping Point to Zero: Evidence Towards a Child Marriage Free India’ was released at a UN General Assembly side event in New York. Assam leads with 84% decline in child marriages of girls, followed by Maharashtra and Bihar (70%), Rajasthan (66%), and Karnataka (55%). Strongest deterrents include arrests and First Information Reports (FIRs). The decline is attributed to coordinated action by Government of India, State governments, and civil society organisations over three years.
