On the decade-long celebrations of Make in India, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, launched Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 in New Delhi. LEADS 2025 benchmarks logistics performance across States and Union Territories (UTs), supporting a globally competitive and future-ready logistics ecosystem. India is emerging as a global manufacturing hub under Make in India, with growth in pharmaceuticals and engineering goods. Efficient logistics reduces costs and strengthens manufacturing competitiveness. LEADS 2025 introduces corridor performance assessment and API-enabled evaluation of road speeds.

Notes:
Minor volcanic eruptions occurred twice on September 13 and 20, 2025, at Barren Island in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Barren Island is India’s only active volcano and located in the Andaman Sea. It lies above the subduction zone of the Indian and Burmese tectonic plates. Past eruptions were recorded in 1787, 1991, 2005, 2017, and 2022.

Uttar Pradesh will host the 19th National Jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides from 23-29 November in Lucknow’s Vrindavan Scheme. The first Jamboree in India was held in Hyderabad in 1953; UP hosted the fourth edition in Prayagraj in 1964. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a gated Tent City with world-class facilities will accommodate 35,000 participants. The event aims to channelise youth energy and promote global brotherhood. Activities include adventure sports, science, and cultural programs, fostering discipline, teamwork, self-reliance, and leadership.

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda unveiled the logo and brochure of the Global Food Regulators Summit (GFRS) 2025 at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi. GFRS 2025 is held from 26-27 September at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, organized by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, alongside World Food India 2025 by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). The theme is “Evolving Food Systems – Yatha Annam Tatha Manah,” emphasizing the link between food quality, health, and society. The Summit provides a platform for global regulators to harmonize standards, strengthen risk assessment, and explore food safety technology.

From September 27 to October 5, 2025, New Delhi is hosting the World Para Athletics Championships for the first time. The venue is Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with over 1,000 athletes from 100+ nations. This marks India’s debut as host and one of the largest para-sport events in the country. The Championships are the biggest para-athletics competition after the Paralympic Games. Events include sprints, relays, long-distance races, jumps, throws, and other track and field disciplines. India’s medal tally has improved from 2 silvers at Doha 2015 to 17 medals at Kobe 2024.

The 2nd National Mediation Conference 2025 was held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The two-day event concluded with emphasis on mediation as a transformative tool for justice delivery and social harmony. Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai underlined the Mediation Act, 2023, elevating mediation as a credible pillar of the justice system. Mediation is key to speedy justice and reducing court burdens. Odisha positioned as a hub for legal innovation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR).

A biodiversity survey recently recorded Beddome’s cat skink (Ristella beddomii) for the first time at Aralam and Kottiyoor Wildlife Sanctuaries. It is also known as Beddome’s ristella and is named after Richard Henry Beddome, a British naturalist. The species is rare and endemic to the Western Ghats. It is a small reddish brown lizard with retractile claws and bicarinate scales. Skink is the common name of lizards in the family Scincidae and this reptile group has existed since the dinosaur era.

On Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR’s) Foundation Day, 26th September 2025, the SODAR (Sound Detection and Ranging) system facility was inaugurated at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi. The facility was designed and developed by CSIR–Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (AMPRI), Bhopal. The SODAR system will provide additional atmospheric data for improved weather forecasting and research.

World Rabies Day is observed annually on 28 September to raise awareness about rabies. The 2025 theme is “Act Now: You, Me, Community”, emphasizing individual and collective responsibility. Rabies is a major public health issue in South-East Asia, causing an estimated 27,700 deaths annually, mostly in children under 15. The One Health approach is promoted to eliminate dog-mediated rabies by 2030 under WHO’s ‘Zero by 30’ strategy. Rabies is one of 21 Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) prioritized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

A new coffee plant species named Ophiorrhiza echinata was recently discovered in the Western Ghats. It was found in the shola forests at Devikulam, Idukki District, Kerala. The plant grows in the ecotone region between evergreen forests and grasslands at 1,630 metres above sea level. It belongs to the Rubiaceae family and is closely related to Ophiorrhiza mungos, used in cancer treatment and antidote preparations. It may have medicinal potential. The species is very rare, with less than 4 sq. km area of occupancy and only about 35 plants recorded
