Recently, a rare Red Coral Kukri Snake (Oligodon kheriensis), last reported in 1936, was found trapped in a net near Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Uttar Pradesh. It is non-venomous, nocturnal, and fossorial, with sharp curved teeth resembling a kukri (Nepali knife). Its body is bright coral-red with a yellowish or pinkish underside, and it has a short head with a pointed snout. It is found in Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand, Nepal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and western Assam.

Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd (AHEL) launched Apollo Athenaa, Asia’s first dedicated cancer centre for women, at Defence Colony, New Delhi. The centre was inaugurated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Dr. Prathap C Reddy and Preetha Reddy of Apollo Hospitals Group. GLOBOCAN 2022 data shows 54% of cancers in Indian women are breast and cervical, highlighting urgent need for specialised care. The centre provides services like preventive screenings, advanced diagnostics, surgical oncology, breast oncoplasty, fertility preservation, reconstructive care, onco-psychology, nutrition, physiotherapy, and palliative care.

Chinese researchers have developed a bone glue named Bone-02, unveiled on 10 September 2025 in Zhejiang Province. It can repair fractures and shattered bone fragments in just 3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments. The glue is bio-absorbable, removing the need for a second surgery to remove implants. It may replace metal implants like plates and screws used in conventional surgeries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan from Madhya Pradesh on 18 September 2025. It is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to create a decentralized tribal leadership and governance ecosystem. Since July 2025, officers from multiple departments underwent Governance Process Labs, training 20 lakh officials, SHG women, and tribal youth as grassroots Adi Karmayogis. The initiative ensures last-mile scheme implementation, convergence of resources, and active participation of tribal communities. As part of the Abhiyan, the Adi Sewa Parv (17 Sept–2 Oct 2025) is being celebrated in 1 lakh tribal villages.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah on 17th September 2025 in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh. It is celebrated every September, aligning with PM Modi’s birthday month, showing his commitment to nutrition as national progress. Citizens are encouraged to share locally nutritious recipes on MyGov and with #Local4Poshan, promoting traditional healthy diets. The initiative is part of the Poshan Abhiyaan, targeting stunting, undernutrition, anaemia, and low birth weight in the first 1,000 days. It is supported by PM POSHAN Scheme with a ₹1.3 lakh crore budget (2021-26), tools like Poshan Tracker app, and Children Nutrition Park.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated distribution of identity cards for Women Self-Help Group (SHG) members and loans worth ₹3,500 crore in Salem on September 16, 2025. Tamil Nadu has over five lakh SHGs, and it became the first State to issue ID cards for SHG members. With these cards, women can carry products free up to 100 km in government buses and avail discounts in Aavin, Co-optex, and Mudhalvar Marunthagam.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the progress of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat during his one-day Gujarat visit. NMHC is a flagship project under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ Sagarmala Programme, with an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore. Lothal, a 5,000-year-old Indus Valley Civilisation (IVC) port town, is the site of the world’s oldest man-made dockyard. The complex will showcase 5,000 years of India’s maritime history through history, research, education, and entertainment. It will include the world’s tallest lighthouse museum (77 m), floating restaurant, tent city, e-car facilities, and four theme parks.

Recently, Marium Fatima from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, became the state’s first Woman FIDE Master (WFM). She achieved this historic milestone through her exceptional performance in chess. Marium has already earned several accolades in national and international chess events. This achievement marks a proud moment for Bihar in the global chess arena.

Recently, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released the State of Global Water Resources 2024 report on 19 September 2025. It warns that the global water cycle is becoming highly erratic, swinging between floods and droughts. 2024 marked the third straight year of glacier loss worldwide. Many small-glacier regions have reached or are nearing “Peak Water Point,” after which runoff will decline due to glacier shrinkage. Two-thirds of global river basins had abnormal water levels, with only one-third showing normal conditions for the sixth consecutive year. The report calls for stronger global data sharing and investments to close monitoring gaps. Currently, 3.6 billion people lack adequate water at least one month per year, projected to rise to over 5 billion by 2050.

Critically endangered yellow-crested cockatoos have found refuge in Hong Kong’s urban parks, making up nearly 10% of the global wild population of just 2,000 mature birds. The species is native to Indonesia and East Timor. These snow-white birds with yellow crests now face nesting problems as old trees are lost to typhoons and government trimming. Global threats like illegal pet trade and climate change also worsen their survival. Conservationists in Hong Kong have begun installing artificial nest boxes, with one pair already using them. The project aims to expand to 50 boxes, helping the species survive in the city.
