Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav called the Sambal Scheme a reflection of India’s ethos of “serving humanity.” In September 2025, he transferred ₹175 crore to 7,953 workers through single-click Direct Benefit Transfer in the fifth round. The Chief Minister Jan Kalyan (Sambal) Scheme was launched in 2018 to provide social security for unorganized workers. More than 1.77 crore workers are registered, with ongoing enrolments. Assistance includes ₹5,000 for funeral, ₹2 lakh for natural death, ₹4 lakh for accidental death, ₹1 lakh for partial disability, and ₹2 lakh for permanent disability. Since inception, ₹7,000 crore has been disbursed to 7.6 lakh beneficiaries.

A recent video shocked Washington showing a US Hellfire missile bouncing off a UFO near Yemen. The Hellfire is an air-to-ground, laser-guided, subsonic tactical missile with strong anti-tank power. It can also act as an air-to-air weapon against helicopters and slow-moving aircraft. It was developed by the United States in 1972 to counter Soviet armor formations. It is a laser-guided, air-to-ground tactical missile used by the U.S. military and more than 30 allied nations for precision striking capabilities against various targets.

Namo Bharat has officially become India’s fastest train, operating at 160 km/h on the 55-km Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) stretch. Earlier semi-high-speed trains like Gatimaan Express and Vande Bharat were capped at 130 km/h after a June 2024 directive. The current operational corridor runs from New Ashok Nagar, East Delhi, to Meerut South, Uttar Pradesh, with full corridor expected to have 16 stations from Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi, to Modipuram, UP. Namo Bharat RRTS is a joint venture: Government of India (50%) and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan (12.5% each). The system is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, enhancing speed, connectivity, and regional travel efficiency.

The World Athletics Championships 2025 take place from 13–21 September. The venue is the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. This marks the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships since the first event in Helsinki, Finland, in 1983. More than 2,000 athletes from 200 teams are participating. The championship highlights global athletic talent and continues the legacy of international track and field competition.

Eustoma, an exotic flower previously imported to Odisha, has bloomed locally for the first time. The National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), cultivated it successfully in Odisha. The flower was grown in a polyhouse at Sanatanpali in Sambalpur, following successful cultivation at NBRI’s Lucknow campus. Eustoma is native to Mexico and America and can be grown twice a year in Odisha. Farmers can earn up to ₹2 lakh per acre per season from Eustoma cultivation. NBRI is a multi-disciplinary plant research institute conducting basic and applied research in strategic plant science areas.

Minakshi Hooda (48 kg) and Jaismine Lamboria (57 kg) won India’s first-ever gold medals at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in Liverpool. Jaismine defeated Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland 4-1, while Minakshi beat three-time world champion Nazym Kyzaibay of Kazakhstan 4-1. Nupur Sheoran claimed silver (80+ kg) and Pooja Rani bronze (80 kg). This became India’s best-ever performance at a Women’s World Championships held outside the country.

The International Day of Democracy is observed every year on 15th September. United Nations (UN) adopted Resolution 62/7 on November 8, 2007, declaring September 15 as International Day of Democracy. The day provides an opportunity to review the global state of democracy. Democracy and human rights are linked, as highlighted in Article 21(3) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which stresses free and fair elections. Theme for International Day of Democracy 2025 is “Ensuring effective governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at all levels.” The theme highlights AI’s role in shaping democratic governance and the need to balance opportunities with risks.

The Anbu Karangal Scheme was launched by the Tamil Nadu government on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister CN Annadurai. In its first phase, 6,082 children who lost both parents or cannot be cared for by a surviving parent will get ₹2,000 per month till 18 years of age. Aid covers cases of abandonment, disability, imprisonment, or life-threatening illness of a parent. The scheme ensures higher education support after schooling. Other initiatives include the Students’ Breakfast Programme, Covid-19 orphan aid, and self-defence training in government homes.

Eighteen youngsters stranded in the floodwaters of the Penna River in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, were rescued after a seven-hour operation. The Penna River, also called Pennar, Pinakini, or Penneru, flows through Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. It originates in the Nandi Hills of Chikkaballapur district, Karnataka. The river flows north into Andhra Pradesh, bends east through the Eastern Ghats, and empties into the Bay of Bengal near Nellore. It supports agriculture in drought-prone Rayalaseema through projects like Somasila, Mylavaram, and Gandikota.

Former France Footballer Samuel Umtiti, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, announced his retirement on 16 September 2025 at age 31. He began his professional career at Lyon, after moving from Cameroon to France. Umtiti joined Barcelona in 2016, winning two La Liga titles and three Copa del Rey trophies. He scored the winning goal in the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Belgium, helping France lift the trophy. He is the fifth 2018 World Cup winner to retire, after Raphael Varane, Blaise Matuidi, Adil Rami, and Steve Mandanda.
