President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Service Scheme NSS Awards for the year 2020-21 at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports confers every year the National Service Scheme Award. A total of forty-two Awards were given to two Universities, ten NSS Units, their Programme Officers, and 30 NSS Volunteers.

Notes:
Statues of three rhinos created using ashes collected from rhino horns burnt by the Assam Government were launched at Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
A year ago, on World Rhino Day, Assam Government burnt around 2500 rhino horns that were collected by the conservation authorities from poachers and illegal traders. The memorial, which consists of three rhino sculptures- an adult male, an adult female and a calf, is named as ‘Abode of the Unicorns’.

Notes:
China launched two experimental satellites named Shiyan-14 and Shiyan-15. The pair of satellites entered the preset orbit.
The Shiyan-14 will be used to conduct scientific experiments and verify new technologies, while the Shiyan-15 will provide data in the fields of land survey, urban planning, and disaster prevention and mitigation.

Notes:
Union Environment Ministry has set a new target of 40 percent reduction in particulate matter concentration in cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) by 2026.
The earlier target of 20 to 30 percent reduction by 2024 has been updated. Twenty cities have met the national standards for annual average PM10 concentration (60 microgram per cubic metre). Under NCAP, city-specific action plans are prepared.

Notes:
The government launched the indigenously-developed AVGAS 100 LL. It has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation.
It is a special aviation fuel meant for piston engine aircrafts and unmanned Arial vehicles. At present, India is importing this product from European countries. The domestic production of AVGAS 100 LL is produced by Indian Oil at its Gujarat refinery.

The United Nations observes 26th September every year as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
The aim of the day is to enhance public awareness about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination. It provides an opportunity to educate the public and leaders about the benefits of eliminating such weapons.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk in Ayodhya on the occasion of the 93rd birth anniversary of the late singer.
The intersection at the banks of the Saryu river has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹7.9 crore. The legendry singer and Bharat Ratna awardee died February 2022 at the age of 92.

Notes:
The Calcutta High Court declared the ‘Duare Ration Scheme’ of West Bengal government is ultra vires to the National Food Security Act, 2013 and is legally void.
The scheme was introduced by the state government in November, 2021, for delivery of food grains under public distribution system at the doorsteps of beneficiaries. AS per the High Court, State Government transgressed the limit of delegation by obliging the Fair Price Shop dealers to distribute the rations to the beneficiaries at their doorstep in absence of any authority.

UNESCO-MONDIACULT 2022 World Conference is being held in Mexico City. Union Minister of State for Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal will represent India at the conference.
The UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 is the third such conference of UNESCO. The first such conference was held in 1982 in Mexico City, while the second in Stockholm in 1998.

Notes:
According to the rankings released by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), India rose to 40th among 132 countries in the Global Innovation Index 2022.
The jump of six places from a year ago, was mainly due to improvement in information and communication technologies (ICT) services exports, venture capital recipients’ value as well as finance for start-ups. Switzerland, the US, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands are the world’s most innovative economies.
