International Literacy Day is observed every year on September 8 to highlight the importance of literacy and to focus on issues that exist and affect local communities around us.
September 8 was proclaimed as International Literacy Day (ILD) by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1966. The theme for International Literacy Day this year is ‘Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces’.

Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India launched an initiative called ‘Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology (WEST)’.
It is a new I-STEM (Indian Science Technology and Engineering facilities Map) initiative. It aims to cater to women with a STEM background and empower them to contribute to the science, technology, and innovation ecosystem. I-STEM is a national web portal for sharing research equipment and facilities.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh addressed the ‘CII Global MedTech Summit titled ‘Seizing the Global Opportunity’ in New Delhi.
He said that the healthcare sector in India is expected to grow to reach a size of USD 50 billion by 2025. India aims to achieve 10 to 12 per cent of the global market share of the medical devices sector.

India’s largest integrated power producer NTPC has successfully acquired Jhabua Power Limited (JPL) through Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process for Rs 925 crore.
The process initiated by National Company Law Tribunal, Kolkata, (NCLT). This is the first acquisition of a power asset by NTPC through NCLT route. JPL has an operational thermal power capacity of 600 MW located in Madhya Pradesh.

India ranked 132nd among 191 countries and territories in the 2021 Human Development Index (HDI).
As per a report by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), decline in the country’s performance from its previous level due to a fall in life expectancy. In the 2020 report, India had ranked 131st among 189 countries and territories.

The second India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue was recently in Tokyo. It was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar along with their counterparts.
Both sides re-affirmed their resolve to make India-Japan ties more robust and complementary, while respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

Indian Army’s Kharga Corps and Indian Air Force conducted a Joint Exercise named ‘Gagan Strike’ over a period of four days in several areas of Punjab.
The army announced that the operation validated the Apache 64E and Advanced Light Helicopter WSI as potent weapon delivery platforms. Attack helicopters were employed as the aerial arm of manoeuvre in support of ground forces, during the exercise.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently unveiled the state’s first Cinematic Tourism Policy in Gandhinagar.
Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹1,020 crore were signed for the development of film infrastructure and film production. The policy scheme offers financial and non-financial incentives for film infrastructure development projects and for film-making projects.

The President of India appointed Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari, Chief Justice, Madras High Court as Chairman of Appellate Tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA).
The Justice was set to retire retire as Chief Justice of Madras High Court on September 12. The order was issued by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance.

‘World First Aid Day 2022’ is celebrated every year on the second Saturday of September. This year, World First Aid Day 2022 falls on 10 September 2022 and is celebrated under the theme ‘Lifelong First Aid’.
The day is observed to promote the significance of first aid and create awareness on a global level about how it can save precious lives.
