A majority 61.9 percent of Chileans voted against the proposed new constitution. It was set to replace the ruling constitution written in 1980 during the dictatorship of conservative President Augusto Pinochet.
In 2019, millions of Chileans took to the streets to march against the rising costs of living and inequalities. 36 year old Gabriel Boric was sworn in as the new President of Chile. The new proposal was claimed as feminist, ecological and progressive.

India’s National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and the UK Government in collaboration with BAE Systems successfully conducted the Cyber Security Exercise for 26 Countries.
The exercise has been conducted as part of the International Counter Ransom ware Initiative- Resilience Working Group, which is being led by India under the leadership of National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC).

Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai announced that the ban on production, sale and use of all types of firecrackers will be extended till January 1, 2023.
The decision has been taken to contain the pollution during the festival season. The ban has been also been extended to online sale of firecrackers. An action plan is set to be drawn to ensure strict enforcement of the ban. The AAP also launched the ‘patakhe nahi diye jalao’ campaign to create awareness against bursting of firecrackers.

The Odisha state’s Water resources department has notified the Community Harnessing and Harvesting Rainwater Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer (CHHATA) scheme.
It was recently approved by the state cabinet at an investment of Rs 270 crore. The scheme aims to address the increasing stress on groundwater and to improve depleting groundwater table. A target has been set to harvest 373.52 crore litres of water in five years.

The Union Cabinet has approved the implementation of the Phase II of Kochi Metro Rail Project at a cost of Rs 1,957.05 crore, with a length of 11 kilometers with 11 stations.
The first phase in Kochi from Aluva to Petta, covering a length of 25 km with 22 stations at an estimated completion cost of Rs. 5182 crores, is fully operational.

September 9 is observed as World EV (Electric Vehicle) Day to highlight the importance of clean mobility across the globe.
The year of the pandemic was the first year when the World EV Day was celebrated. As per reports, China has sold more EVs in the year 2021 that the rest of the world combined. China is also projected to be the world leader in terms of electric vehicle production over the next few years.

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy holds the tops spot in the men’s singles category in BWF World Tour Rankings.
He was part of the Indian team that won the Thomas Cup in 2022. The ace badminton player has reachd quarterfinals consistently in most of the events held this year.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal attended the first in-person Ministerial meeting of the India-Pacific Economic Forum (IPEF) in Los Angeles.
Representatives from 13 IPEF partner countries attended the meeting. IPEF, a group of 13 countries, is a multilateral economic framework launched in May. The meeting included discussions on 4 pillars of the framework including Trade Pillar, Supply Chains Pillar, Clean Economy Pillar, Fair Economy Pillar.

Notes:
Australia Captain Aaron Finch announced his retirement from one-day international cricket. Finch has represented Australia in the 145 ODIs.
Finch will continue to captain the Australian team in this year’s ICC T20 World Cup. His career includes over 5400 runs with 17 centuries. He made his debut against Sri Lanka in 2013 and smashed his maiden hundred against Scotland, scoring 148 runs.

Notes:
Formula One championship ace Max Verstappen recently won the Italian Grand Prix tournament.  Charles Leclerc finished second and George Russell was third, ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lewis Hamilton.
Verstappen now has a 116-point lead over Charles Leclerc. He had earlier won the Belgian Grand Prix, the Dutch Grand Prix and the Hungarian Grand Prix among others.
