Notes:
India has recently approved an MoU with the Government of Nepal on biodiversity conservation, as proposed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of forests, biodiversity conservation, and climate change. It also aims at including the restoration of corridors and interlinking areas and sharing of knowledge and best practices, between the two countries.

Notes:
Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the former Soviet Union from 1985 until 1991, has passed away at the age of 91.
In 1986, Gorbachev made a historic proposal to eliminate all long-range missiles held by the United States and the Soviet Union. It was the beginning of the end of the Cold War. He was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990.

A wildlife enthusiast from Karnataka has discovered a new crab species from the Western Ghats of Karnataka.
Named as ‘Ghatiana Dwivarna’, this bright coloured crab is the 75th fresh water crab of the Western Ghats. It is a fresh water crab that lives under the tiny rocks in thick dense forests of Western Ghats. The crab majorly feeds on algae but also eats small insects of the mosquito family.

Tibetan Democracy Day is celebrated on September 2, to mark the inception of the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamshala.
The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamshala, governs over 1 lakh refugees across the world. It is the home of the Dalai Lama and all the Tibetans in exile. This year, the 62nd anniversary of Tibetan Democracy Day was celebrated.

Notes:
The strongest tropical storm of 2022, dubbed Super Typhoon ‘Hinnamnor’, has been moving across the western Pacific Ocean with wind speeds of up to 241 kilometres per hour.
It was classified as the category 5 typhoon, the highest classification on the scale. The typhoon is expected to develop further, as it moves towards the Japanese islands. , Japan’s Meteorological Agency has warned of flooding, heavy downpour, landslides and thunderstorm warnings.

‘Jigyasa for Renewable Fuel program’ under Jigyasa 2.0 program was successfully organized for the school students of Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Gwalior 2022 at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun.
The main objective of the program is to give an exposure to different technologies developed for the utilization of non-edible vegetable oils, used cooking oil and waste plastic to different types of fuels.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare virtually inaugurated the ‘Swasth Sabal Bharat’ Conclave.
The purpose of the conclave was to discuss the situation of body-organ-eye donation in India and find solutions to the challenges ahead. The Union Minister emphasized on ‘Jan Bhagidari’ or people’s movement to encourage people to donate their organs for humanity.

India’s medical regulatory body National Medical Commission (NMC) recently told the High Court that it declared conversion therapy as an act of professional misconduct, as per court order.
Conversion therapy is the attempt to change an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. NMC banned the practice under the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002.

Blue Energy, a start-up backed by a Singapore-based firm, unveiled India’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fuelled green truck near Pune.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the green truck facility which has an installed capacity of 10,000 trucks annually.

Warangal from Telangana and Thrissur and Nilambur from Kerala have joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC).
77 cities from 44 countries joined the list recently, which includes 294 cities from all around the world. The cities have been included in recognition of their outstanding efforts to promote lifelong learning across their communities at local level.
