Dr Ashutosh Raravikar, Director in the DEPR of RBI has authored a book titled ‘Indian Banking in Retrospect’- 75 years of Independence.
The books attempts to capture developments in the Indian banking sector over the last 75 years. It describes how the banking sector displayed great resilience during South-East Asian crisis of the late ’90s, global meltdown of 2008, the taper-tantrums of 2013-14 among other crises.

According to the latest NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) report, the highest number of sedition cases was recorded in Andhra Pradesh (29).
76 cases for sedition were registered in 2021 in the country under IPC Section 124A.  In 2020, no sedition case was recorded in the state of Andhra Pradesh. There were 1,604 arrests under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UAPA].

‘Nuakhai’, which means ‘new food’, is an agricultural festival observed by people of Odisha and Southern Chhattisgarh in India.
Nuakhai is observed to welcome the new rice of the season. It is also called as a ‘Harvest festival’ and is celebrated during the August-September season.

Rachakonda Viswanadha Sastri, popularly known as Raavi Sastry, was a notable writer, lawyer and critic.
The Chief Justice of India, Justice N.V. Ramana, participated as Chief Guest at the centenary celebrations of the noted writer, being organised at Visakhapatnam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the new Naval Ensign (flag) at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi
The Indian Flag is placed on the top left of the flag, while a blue octagonal shape that encompasses the national emblem sits atop an anchor on the right, which depicts steadfastness. The octagonal shape has been designed to represent eight directions, depicting the multi-directional reach and of the Indian Navy. The twin golden borders surrounding it are inspired from Chhatrapati Shivaji.

The ‘Scheme for Promotion of Bulk Drug Parks’ is run by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, to support the Bulk Drugs manufacturing in the country. It was notified in 2020, with a financial outlay of Rs 3,000 crore.
The Department of Pharmaceuticals has approved the proposals of three states, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, to set up Bulk Drug Parks and aims to bring down the cost of manufacturing bulk drugs through the creation of world-class common infrastructure facilities.

Ramon Magsaysay Award is also regarded as Asia’s version of the Nobel Prize. Named after the late Philippine president, it is presented annually to individuals or organizations in Asia who undertakes selfless service and transformational actions.
This year’s award has been presented to four people across the world for their selfless service to the people of Asia.

Karnataka government launched the global startup challenge ‘VentuRISE’, which aims to support startups in manufacturing and sustainability related sectors.
VentuRISE will be a part of the Global Investors Meet-Invest Karnataka 2022, which will be held in Bengaluru. The winners of the challenge will get a cash prize of USD 100,000 and access to customers and mentoring sessions.

Notes:
Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose to Rs 1,43,612 crore for August 2022.  Monthly GST revenues have remained above the Rs 1.4 lakh crore mark for the last six months (from March 2022).
However, the August collection is lower than the previous month but 28.2 per cent higher year-on-year, as per the data released by the Finance Ministry.

Bhitarkanika National Park is located in the state of Orissa. It houses several rare and endangered varieties of wildlife species.
A record 3,700 saltwater crocodiles were born in Bhitarkanika National Park recently from 122 nests. As per reports, last year, around 2,500 crocodiles were born from 84 nests.
