Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has released a study on the incidence, mortality, morbidity and socioeconomic burden of snakebite in the country.
As per the study, snakes kill more than 45,000 people in India each year, while only 30% of the victims reach hospitals to seek medical treatment. The number of deaths due to venomous snakebites in India is 46,900 per year.

Notes:
India has recently approved an MoU with the Government of Nepal on biodiversity conservation, as proposed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the field of forests, biodiversity conservation, and climate change. It also aims at including the restoration of corridors and interlinking areas and sharing of knowledge and best practices, between the two countries.

Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai launched the ‘Startup Pitch Challenge’. The state government of Karnataka is organising the challenge in partnership with TiE Global and TiE Bengaluru, a non-profit, global community.
It aims to recognize and support startups in manufacturing related sectors and provide them a platform to showcase their strengths and ensure funding. The event has been planned for the Global Investors Meet (GIM) – ‘Invest Karnataka 2022’.

Samvatsari Day is a traditional festival celebrated in Shwetambar sect of Jainism. It is celebrated as Kshamavani in the Digambara sect of Jainism.
Samvatsari is observed to seek forgiveness for all thoughts, words or actions that hurt people knowingly or unknowingly. On this day, people seek Uttam Kshama (apologies) and send messages of Micchami Dukkadam, which translates to ‘May all evil that has been done be forgiven’.

Notes:
Ramon Magsaysay Award is also regarded as Asia’s version of the Nobel Prize. Named after the late Philippine president, it is presented annually to individuals or organizations in Asia who undertakes selfless service and transformational actions.
This year’s award has been presented to four people across the world for their selfless service to the people of Asia.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the West Bengal government to pay Rs 3,500 crore as ‘compensation’ for violating the norms for the management of solid and liquid waste.
The Bengal government has the option to seek a review by the tribunal or move the Supreme Court. The bench has asked the state to deposit the amount within two months dedicated to solid waste management in the state and it will be operated according to the directions of the Chief Secretary.

The Telangana Government decided to observe September 17 as Telangana National Unity Day. The state will observe Telangana National Unity Diamond Jubilee Festival for three days.
The Centre has decided to mark Hyderabad State Liberation Day on September 17. The 75th anniversary of the event will be marked as a yearlong event. The inaugural event will be organised by the Union Ministry of Culture in Hyderabad and will be presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to a report by Cushman and Wakefield, Bengaluru ranked second in the Asia Pacific region in the top tech hubs list and is only behind China’s Beijing.
The report titled ‘Tech Cities: The Global Intersection of Talent and Real Estate’, studied 115 different ‘tech cities’ across the globe. Three other Indian cities, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad were in the next three ranks. Mumbai and Pune were at eighth and ninth position in a list of 14 cities from the APAC.

The Gujarat Science Conclave of State Science & Technology (S&T) Ministers is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Science City, Ahmedabad.
The conclave will include discussions on the theme of ‘Doubling Private Sector investment in R&D by 2030’. All States and UTs will be asked to have individual STI policy on the lines of National STI policy.

Notes:
Kurki is a process of attachment of a farmer’s land, pledged to the money lending institution or individual, in case of a loan default.
Kurki orders are executed under Section 60 of Civil Procedure Code, 1908. A 65-year-old farmer, from Punjab recently died by suicide against kurki orders for his land based on a court case filed against him by the local moneylender for defaulting on loan payment.
