The month of September is recognized as International PCOS Awareness Month. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder in women, which is also a cause of female infertility.
PCOS is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Globally, three to four women out of 10 women suffer from the disorder.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal released handbook on ‘Safety in Electrical Installations – A way forward to Safety by National Electrical Code of India’ and Guide for Using National Building Code of India 2016.
It was released during the fourth Governing Council Meeting of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Pamphlets for awareness of general public while constructing their own home or buying from a builder are also released.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between India and Madagascar for the training of diplomats
It was signed during a special ceremony organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar. The signing of this MOU aims for enhancing cooperation between our two countries in the crucial arena of training of diplomats. It will also encourage exchange of information and content of training programmes for diplomats.

According to Japan Meteorological Agency, Typhhon Muifa hit Ishigaki Island, near Taiwan. The typhoon approached Japan’s southern islands.
Typhoon Muifa has also brought heavy downpours and winds to islands in Japan’s Okinawa. China has also launched emergency response as the typhoon approaches.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare launched National Lists of Essential Medicines (NLEM) 2022.
NLEM ensures accessibility of affordable quality medicines and helps in reduction in Out of Pocket Expenditure on healthcare for the citizens. 384 drugs have been included in this list with addition of 34 drugs, while 26 from the previous list have been dropped.

MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), and Meta, announced the launch of an accelerator programme to accelerate XR technology startups across India.
The ‘XR Startup Program’ will support 40 early-stage start-ups working in XR technologies including Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) with a grant of Rs 20 lakhs each

India Post Payments Bank has partnered with Koo to promote financial literacy in tier-2, tier-3 cities and remote cities
The partnership with Indian micro-blogging platform Koo, aims to promote financial literacy in remote cities. Koo is a multilingual platform that allows users to communicate in 10 languages.

Shoonya is an awareness campaign to reduce air pollution by promoting the use of electric vehicles (EVs) for ride-hailing and deliveries
NITI Aayog held a forum to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Shoonya, India’s zero pollution e-mobility campaign. During the event, the National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Energy Storage report was also launched.

Roger Federer, regarded as one of the greatest Tennis players in the world, announced that he is retiring from professional tennis at age 41
The former World No. 1 from Switzerland announced that the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup will be his final ATP tournament. Federer has played more than 1500 matches over 24 years, winning 20 Grand Slam titles. He became the oldest World No. 1 at the age of 36 in 2018.

Indian scientist and industrialist Dr Swati Piramal has been conferred France’s top civilian honour -The Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur.
The vice-chairperson of the Piramal Group was conferred the Knight of the Legion of Honour for her contributions in the fields of business and industry, science, medicine, and towards strengthening Indo-French ties.
