Mahsa Amini was the 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman whose death in police custody sparked a wave of women’s rights protests in Iran.
She has been awarded the European Union’s top human rights prize. Amini, along with Iran’s Women, Life and Freedom movement that emerged in a months-long street protest campaign following her death, received the EU’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.

The Reserve Bank of India has notified the amendment in Foreign Exchange Management (Debt Instruments) Regulations, 2019.
Under this amendment, Russia, along with 21 other countries, can now invest in dated Government Securities and Treasury Bills through a rupee account. Russia has been hit by its mounting surplus rupee problem.

Researchers are investigating an innovative approach to produce oxygen on Mars by utilizing a type of desert-dwelling bacteria called Chroococcidiopsis cubana.
These microorganisms have the ability to thrive in harsh environments by harnessing sunlight, absorbing carbon dioxide, and generating oxygen through their metabolic processes. This concept offers a potential solution for generating a sustainable oxygen supply for future Mars missions and human colonization efforts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a cyclone named Tej developed in the Arabian Sea, while deep depression in the Bay of Bengal caused another cyclone, named Hamoon.
India is witnessing twin cyclonic storms for the first time after 2018. The name for Cyclone Tej was given by India while Iran named Cyclone Hamoon which stands for marshlands in Persian language.

Three Basins Summit was hosted in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo to strengthen South-South governance for three ecosystems — Amazon, Congo, Borneo-Mekong and Southeast Asia.
Three Basins Threat Report, which was released during the Summit, highlighted the challenges faced by the world’s remaining tropical forest basins.

Vodafone Idea’s business division, known as Vi Business, has introduced an IoT (Internet of Things) lab-as-a-service in collaboration with C-DOT (Centre for Development of Telematics).
This lab, known as the Vi C-DOT IoT lab, is designed to facilitate a wide range of testing scenarios, numbering over 175. These scenarios encompass network and functional testing, field testing, application testing, compatibility testing, and oneM2M standard testing, among others.

The Union Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan on Japan-India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership.
The MoC intends to strengthen cooperation between India and Japan towards enhancement of semiconductor supply chain, recognizing the importance of semiconductor for the advancement of industries and digital technologies.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7th Edition of the India Mobile Congress, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
It was organised with the theme of ‘Global Digital Innovation,’  Reliance Jio Infocomm demonstrated India’s first satellite-based giga fibre service ‘JioSpaceFiber’ to provide high-speed broadband services to previously inaccessible geographies within India.

In spite of being the country’s second least populated State, Mizoram exhibits the highest incidence rate of cancer in India.
The latest evidence from an 18-year trend study notes a consistent rise in cancer incidence and mortality in Mizoram, with stomach cancer emerging as the primary cause of cancer-related deaths among men, while lung cancer is the primary cause of deaths among women.

Notes:
The Delhi government is planning to reintroduce the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, which provides free medical and civil services coaching.
This initiative is expected to be reinstated soon, aiming to assist and support underprivileged students in their pursuit of medical and civil services education and careers.
