The government has updated the regulations for the Rs 6,238 crore production-linked incentive scheme (PLI) for white goods.
Under the new guidelines, companies chosen for the program must provide a certificate from a registered cost accountant, verifying related party sales and determining the arm’s length price in order to qualify for the scheme’s benefits. The white goods PLI program is designed to encourage domestic manufacturing of air conditioners and LED lights.

Notes:
Jericho Missile Programme is Israel’s early ballistic missile program, established in the 1960s and named after the ancient city in the Bible.
Originally developed in collaboration with the French aerospace company Dassault, the partnership ended in 1969, and Israel continued independently. By 1973, during the Yom Kippur War, Israel had developed the solid-fuel Jericho-1 missile model.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday inaugurated the 82-km Padma Bridge Rail Link, the country’s largest infrastructure project built under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The project is estimated to cost Taka 39,246.80 crore, with the Exim Bank of China providing a loan of Taka 21,036.70 crore.

Union Cabinet has approved Memorandum of Understanding between India and France on cooperation in the field of Digital Technologies.
Cabinet also approved the MoU between India and two countries – Papua New Guinea and Trinidad & Tobago- on cooperation in sharing successful Digital Solutions.

Noted author and activist Sivasankari was honoured with the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2022 for her memoir written in Tamil, Surya Vamsam.
The Saraswati Samman was instituted by the KK Birla Foundation and Sivasankari is the 32nd recipient of the award. The Saraswati Samman, given annually for outstanding literary works in 22 Indian languages in the last 10 years.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has decided to set up an e-commerce portal that will exclusively feature electric appliances with the highest efficiency ratings.
EESL is a joint venture of public sector undertakings (PSU) under the Ministry of Power. The objective of this exercise would be to create demand and encourage consumers to opt for electric cookers, fans, refrigerators and other devices that were rated five star and above.

The Union Government announced the observation of August 23rd every year as the National Space Day to commemorate the success of the Chandrayaan 3 mission.
It was on August 23rd this year that the Chandrayaan 3 mission undertook a successful landing on the South Pole of the Moon.

October 16 is observed as World Food Day every year. It is celebrated by organisations which are involved in alleviating hunger and improving food security.
The World Food Day was established in 1945 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). For the year 2023, the theme of the World Food Day is – “Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind”.

Notes:
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) marked World Food Day 2023 by launching the “Eat Right Creativity Challenge for Millets”.
This national-level initiative is designed to encourage the consumption of millets and raise awareness of their health benefits, particularly among school children, with the aim of ultimately benefiting the broader community.

‘Guidance’, the nodal agency for investment promotion of Tamil Nadu, has received the United Nations Promotion Award 2023.
It was awarded for Excellence in Scaling Up Energy Transition Investments at the 8th World Investment Forum held at Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
