Louise Gluck, the renowned American poet and Nobel laureate in literature for 2020, has passed away at the age of 80.
She became the 16th woman to receive the Nobel Prize in literature and the first American poet to win the honour since TS Eliot more than 70 years earlier. She won several awards including the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for her collection The Wild Iris.

Qatar Airways has signed an agreement with SpaceX to make Starlink WiFi available to every passenger in the sky at no cost.
The deal positions Qatar Airways as the biggest airline partner to Elon Musk’s Starlink. With this partnership, passengers can expect true broadband rates of 350 Mbps per person or device.

It indicates that natural disasters have caused approximately $3.8 trillion in losses in crop and livestock production over the past three decades, with the largest portion of these economic losses occurring in Asia.

The 11th edition of the bilateral Military Exercise SAMPRITI-XI between India and Bangladesh has concluded. The exercise began at the Joint Training Node, Umroi in Meghalaya.

Recently, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the first district-level paperless e-office system in South Tripura district. This e-office system comes with various advantages.
The state aims to expand its use to the sub-divisional and panchayat levels, guaranteeing efficient and transparent storage of data and files. It had earlier introduced state-level E-office, followed by E-Vidhansabha and E-Cabinet.

Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, officially launched IndiaSkills 2023-24 and honored the winners of World Skills 2022. He called for increasing the number of participants to 2.5 million from 0.25 million last year,
IndiaSkills is the precursor to the WorldSkills, the largest skill competition in the world, held once every two years, conducted by WorldSkills International.

This achievement marks the country’s second triumph over a neglected tropical disease (NTD) in just six years, following the elimination of trachoma as a public health concern in 2017.

A Chinese research group has initiated the construction of an enormous neutrino telescope in the South China Sea called Tropical Deep-sea Neutrino Telescope (Trident), which is named Hailing (Ocean Bell) in Chinese.
This telescope is poised to become the world’s most extensive “ghost particle” detector and will be positioned at a depth of 3,500 meters beneath the ocean’s surface.

In an effort to enhance its fleet of Russian-origin Su-30 MKI combat aircraft, the Indian Air Force is preparing to install an indigenous advanced radar known as ‘Virupaaksha.’
This move represents a significant step towards the indigenization of the military sector, reflecting India’s commitment to developing its own defense capabilities.
