Spain’s PLD Space successfully launched the Miura-1 rocket, marking a historic milestone as Europe’s first fully private rocket launch.
The Miura-1 is a recoverable rocket that was launched from a site in southwest Spain. This achievement is seen as a significant advancement for Europe’s space endeavors, which have faced challenges and delays in recent years.

The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Annual Report 2022-2023 was released recently by the National Statistical Office. A decreasing Trend in Unemployment Rate (UR) for persons of age 15 years and above was noted.
In rural areas, Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) increased from 50.7% in 2017-18 to 60.8% in 2022-23 while for urban areas it increased from 47.6% to 50.4%. In rural areas, Worker Population Ratio (WPR) increased from 48.1% in 2017-18 to 59.4% in 2022-23 while for urban areas it increased from 43.9% to 47.7%.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, which is located off the east coast of the Queensland mainland, Australia.
Scientists have revealed that significant pollution is entering the reef via underground water sources. This discovery carries substantial implications for policymakers seeking to mitigate pollution from river catchments.

NLC India Limited, a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) operating under the Ministry of Coal, has secured a contract to develop an 810 MW Solar PV project in collaboration with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (RRVUNL).
NLCIL has achieved full allocation of the 810 MW project, which was put up for tender by RRVUNL in December 2022, to contribute to the development of RRVUNL’s massive 2000 MW Ultra Mega Solar Park located in Pugal Tehsil, Bikaner District, Rajasthan.

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has accomplished an extraordinary milestone, racing through the Solar System at a staggering velocity of 635,266 kilometers per hour.
This milestone was attained during the probe’s 17th orbit around the Sun, while it continues to gather essential data on the Sun’s charged particle winds and magnetic fields.

Rule 13.11 (licensing for individual bar) of Uttarakhand Excise Policy Rules 2023 was introduced by the state government to allow home owners for maintaining mini-bars.
The excise policy manual 2023-24 issued made a provision for granting licences on a payment of Rs 12,000 per annum for such mini home bars to anyone who has filed Income Tax Returns for five years. It was cancelled by the state government after public criticism.

In the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2023, India is ranked 111 out of 125 countries, indicating that its progress in combating hunger has stagnated since 2015. With a score of 28.7 in the 2023 Global Hunger Index, India has a level of hunger that is classified as ‘serious’.
Afghanistan, Haiti, and 12 sub-Saharan countries have fared worse than India on the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2023.

The World Sight Day is observed annually on the second Thursday of October. It is a global event meant to draw attention to blindness and vision impairment. This year it falls on 12th October.
‘LOVE YOUR EYES AT WORK’ is the theme of this year. This World Sight Day, the focus is on helping people understand the importance of protecting their vision in the workplace and calling on business leaders to priorities the eye health of workers, everywhere.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) in New Delhi.
The two-day summit was preceded by a Parliamentary Forum on Mission LiFE. Apart from the G20 countries, 10 other countries were invited to the conference. The theme of the 9th P20 Summit was ‘Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future’.

Notes:
India’s retail inflation, in terms of the Consumer Price Index CPI, eased to a three-month low in September, to 5.02%.
Moreover, the inflation came below RBI’s upper tolerance band of 2%-6%. RBI has clarified that it is targeting inflation of 4% and a figure of below 6% may not suffice as a condition for easing its lending rates.
