Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years, firing at least 5,000 missiles rockets at it.
In retaliation to it, Israel declared a ‘war’ and launched Operation “Iron Swords” to neutralise Hamas militants in Gaza. As per the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), more than 1,000 Israelis have been killed in the war on Hamas.

Professor Claudia Goldin has been recently conferred the Nobel Prize in Economics 2023. It recognized her comprehensive research on women’s contribution to the labor market.
Claudia Goldin is an American economic historian and labour economist, who is currently a Professor of Economics at Harvard University.

Mohamed Muizzu has won the Maldives’ recent presidential election. Mohamed Muizzu’s take over has been scheduled on November 17.
After his triumph over the incumbent Ibrahim Solih, Muizzu declared that his top priority upon assuming office would be to reduce foreign footprint in the Maldives by restricting the quantity of troops stationed in the country. Indian military personnel are stationed in Maldives to operate the aircraft and choppers.

Recently, the Goan cashew received GI tag. A Geographical Indication (GI) tag is granted to products that originate from a particular geographical area, denoting distinctive features and attributes.
The cashew derived from the Portuguese name ‘caju’ or ‘kaju’ in Konkani. The Goan cashew is organic and better in taste and it has a unique flavour.

The Wildlife Trust of India has identified the dancing frogs found exclusively in the Western Ghats as the most endangered amphibian genus in India.
It is also the fifth most threatened genus in the world with 92 per cent of its species in the threatened category. The organisation made the analysis based on the second edition of the Global Amphibian Assessment, which was released recently.

Union Cabinet has approved Memorandum of Understanding between India and France on cooperation in the field of Digital Technologies.
Cabinet also approved the MoU between India and two countries – Papua New Guinea and Trinidad & Tobago- on cooperation in sharing successful Digital Solutions.

The World Sight Day is observed annually on the second Thursday of October. It is a global event meant to draw attention to blindness and vision impairment. This year it falls on 12th October.
‘LOVE YOUR EYES AT WORK’ is the theme of this year. This World Sight Day, the focus is on helping people understand the importance of protecting their vision in the workplace and calling on business leaders to priorities the eye health of workers, everywhere.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the ‘Ama Odisha, Nabin Odisha’ (Our Odisha, New Odisha) scheme.
This initiative aims to provide every panchayat in the state with financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh to support projects focused on preserving places of worship, enhancing historically significant sites, and improving rural infrastructure and digital connectivity.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin initiated ‘Project Nilgiri Tahr’ from the Secretariat in Chennai, a venture designed to safeguard the State Animal.
This project, funded with ₹25 crore, seeks to enhance knowledge of the Nilgiri Tahr’s population, distribution, and habitat, reintroduce the species to its historical environments, address immediate threats, raise public awareness, and establish eco-tourism activities at specific locations.

Notes:
India’s retail inflation, in terms of the Consumer Price Index CPI, eased to a three-month low in September, to 5.02%.
Moreover, the inflation came below RBI’s upper tolerance band of 2%-6%. RBI has clarified that it is targeting inflation of 4% and a figure of below 6% may not suffice as a condition for easing its lending rates.
