Noted author and activist Sivasankari was honoured with the prestigious Saraswati Samman for the year 2022 for her memoir written in Tamil, Surya Vamsam.
The Saraswati Samman was instituted by the KK Birla Foundation and Sivasankari is the 32nd recipient of the award. The Saraswati Samman, given annually for outstanding literary works in 22 Indian languages in the last 10 years.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has decided to set up an e-commerce portal that will exclusively feature electric appliances with the highest efficiency ratings.
EESL is a joint venture of public sector undertakings (PSU) under the Ministry of Power. The objective of this exercise would be to create demand and encourage consumers to opt for electric cookers, fans, refrigerators and other devices that were rated five star and above.

Armenia’s President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed the ratification of the Rome Statute, recognising the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) despite Russian warnings.
ICC issued an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin over the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. Armenia says joining the ICC would allow it to investigate war crimes by Azerbaijan after Baku’s offensive to retake Nagorno-Karabakh.

Louise Gluck, the renowned American poet and Nobel laureate in literature for 2020, has passed away at the age of 80.
She became the 16th woman to receive the Nobel Prize in literature and the first American poet to win the honour since TS Eliot more than 70 years earlier. She won several awards including the Pulitzer Prize in 1993 for her collection The Wild Iris.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced that Hollywood’s veteran star Michael Douglas will be conferred with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award at IFFI (International Film Festival of India) Goa 2023.
The International Film Festival of India 2023 will take place in Goa from November 20 to 28. The star last featured in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Business heir Daniel Noboa has been declared as Ecuador’s next president and becomes the country’s youngest-ever leader.
Noboa, a centre-right former lawmaker, beat leftist rival Luisa González in a run-off election, taking 52 per cent of the vote. Fuelled by drug-related crime, the country’s homicide rate has quadrupled between 2018 and last year.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam has officially opened the Leechubagan reservoir, which is a component of the South-Central Guwahati Water Supply Project.
This project’s primary objective is to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water to the residents of Guwahati.

On the second day of Navratri, people across the state of Gujarat danced to Garba, Gujarat’s traditional dance form.
It is a community circle dance. During Navratri, many traditional garbas are performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of the Goddess.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS 2023), which is scheduled to take place in Mumbai.
He also unveiled ‘Amrit Kaal Vision 2047’ – a blueprint for the Indian Maritime blue economy. This significant maritime event is being organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
