World Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day, celebrated annually on October 8, is a global initiative aimed at promoting awareness of hydrogen as a clean and sustainable energy source, along with the versatile technology of fuel cells.
On the occasion, the R&D Roadmap for the National Green Hydrogen Mission was unveiled by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. The roadmap, which provides for a budget of Rs. 400 crores, seeks to provide guidance for developing a vibrant research and development ecosystem which can help commercialize Green Hydrogen.

Recently, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud revealed that a seven-judge bench will be established to adjudicate on a collection of petitions contesting the government’s use of the money bill method to enact specific significant laws.
According to Article 110(1) of the Indian Constitution, a bill is classified as a money bill if it exclusively pertains to subjects including taxation, government borrowing, and the allocation of funds from the Consolidated Fund of India, among others.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty earned India’s first-ever badminton gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Satwik and Chirag, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, had won a world championships bronze last year. The duo then became the first Indians to win a BWF Super 1000 tournament when it clinched the Indonesia Open in June.

Spain’s PLD Space successfully launched the Miura-1 rocket, marking a historic milestone as Europe’s first fully private rocket launch.
The Miura-1 is a recoverable rocket that was launched from a site in southwest Spain. This achievement is seen as a significant advancement for Europe’s space endeavors, which have faced challenges and delays in recent years.

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system, which is located off the east coast of the Queensland mainland, Australia.
Scientists have revealed that significant pollution is entering the reef via underground water sources. This discovery carries substantial implications for policymakers seeking to mitigate pollution from river catchments.

Puja Special Tram has been created to commemorate the UNESCO Heritage designation for Durga Puja and to mark the 150th anniversary of Kolkata tramways.
It travels along the Tollygunge-Ballygunge route, from Durga Puja to the new year. Kolkata’s iconic trams have been plying through the city since 1873.

An eight-foot-tall statue of Mahatma Gandhi was revealed at Tolstoy Farm, the commune he established during his early 20th-century legal career in South Africa.
The clay statue now stands alongside substantial busts of Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, all crafted by sculptor Jalandharnath Rajaram Channole from the Sevagram Ashram in India.

Sparambabus Sindhudurg is a newly discovered species of jumping spider. It was found in the Kudal region of Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra.
Sparbambus sindhudurg is the second species in the Sparbambus genus and is the first-ever record of this genus in India.

Gaza, a narrow territory between the Mediterranean Sea, Israel, and Egypt, with a population of over two million Palestinians, has been subject to an air, land, and sea blockade since 2007.
This extended period of occupation and the ongoing blockade have led to numerous references to Gaza as an open-air prison by various international entities, UN experts, rights groups, intellectuals, and even former British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Rule 13.11 (licensing for individual bar) of Uttarakhand Excise Policy Rules 2023 was introduced by the state government to allow home owners for maintaining mini-bars.
The excise policy manual 2023-24 issued made a provision for granting licences on a payment of Rs 12,000 per annum for such mini home bars to anyone who has filed Income Tax Returns for five years. It was cancelled by the state government after public criticism.
