An Australian woman has become the first documented individual globally to survive an infection typically responsible for the fatal “blackleg” ailment in cattle and sheep.
Blackleg in cattle bears a resemblance to gas gangrene syndrome in humans, leading to the death of all tissue surrounding the infection and significant gas accumulation.

Telangana hosts a biennial festival known as the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, which is renowned as one of the world’s largest gatherings of tribal people.
This event commemorates the 13th-century resistance by a mother-daughter duo against the local rulers who had imposed taxes on the Koya people. The Jatara, or pilgrimage features rituals conducted by Koya priests in adherence to their customs and traditions.

Ministers representing the 46 least developed countries (LDCs) released Dakar Declaration on Climate Change 2023, highlighting their anticipations and key concerns in preparation for the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28).
The Dakar Declaration underscores the need for immediate worldwide efforts to reduce emissions, enhanced funding for climate initiatives, a robust plan to implement the recently established Loss and Damage Fund, and an ambitious Global Stocktake aimed at addressing deficiencies in global climate actions.

The 10th edition of the India Sweden Innovation Day Meeting was held in New Delhi recently. This year, nine Swedish companies made a visit to India under the India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator.
In 2023, both the countries are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations and Fifth anniversary of the Sweden-India Joint Declaration on Innovation Partnership for a Sustainable Future.

Claudia Goldin is an American economic historian and labour economist, who is currently a Professor of Economics at Harvard University.

The ‘Protocol for Identification and Management of Malnutrition in Children’ was unveiled recently by the Indian Government.
It is the outcome of the collaboration between Union Women and Child Development Ministry, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Ayush. It provides detailed steps for identification and management of malnourished children at the Anganwadi level, including decision making regarding referral, nutritional management and follow-up care.

Recently, the Supreme Court announced that it will consider petitions challenging the electoral bonds program on October 31.
This scheme, initiated in 2018, introduced a system for contributing electoral bonds, which are interest-free bearer instruments to donate money anonymously to political parties in India.
