Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the US Grand Prix Title in 2022. Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was denied his first win of the 2022 Formula 1 campaign.
The 25-year-old, who was crowned the World Champion at Suzuka earlier this month, picked up his thirteenth win of the campaign. At present, he has equalled the highest wins recorded in a season with Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, with three rounds still to go.

The UNSC’s counter-terrorism meeting will be hosted in Mumbai and Delhi in the month of October. The overarching theme of the meeting would be ‘Countering the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.’
The focus is on rapid development and increasing threat of use for terrorist purposes of 3 technologies – 1) internet, including social media, 2) new payment technologies and fundraising methods, 3) unmanned aerial systems, including drones.

The Navigation with Indian Constellation (NaVIC) is the India’s equivalent of the Global Positioning System (GPS).
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is working on a series of improvements to the NavIC, so that more people are motivated to install it and use it. Plans are being made to expand its reach to global level.

China has started dispensing an inhalable COVID-19 vaccine to its people. According to the Shanghai city administration, the free booster dose of the vaccine is being made available to those who have already had vaccinations.
It comprises of a mist that is breathed in via the lips. The ‘needle-free’ vaccines are expected to increase vaccination rates in countries with weak health systems.

Public sector lender Indian Bank has rolled out six new digital initiatives under ‘Project WAVE’ for enhancing customer experience on its digital platform.
Indian Bank, along with Universal Sompo General Insurance will provide online vehicle and health insurance through mobile banking app IndOASIS.

Shiprocket, a shipping and logistics solutions provider has completed its first successful transaction after coming online on the government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Shiprocket is the first inter-city logistics company to connect to the ONDC network. It is now possible for vendors from all market segments to transport goods to towns and cities all over India.

Vijnana Bharati in association with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) is set to hold a ‘Conference on ‘Akash Tatva’ at Dehradun.
Vijnana Bharati, is a wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Singh (RSS). The involvement of the Vijnana Bharati has rised concerns that it may promote pseudoscience.

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has released the 3rd Advance Estimates of the area and production of various horticultural crops for 2021-22.
According to this estimate, a record 342.33 million tonnes are estimated to be produced in an area of ​​28.08 million hectares. The estimate shows an increase of about 7.73 million tonnes (2.3%) over the year 2020-21.

Notes:
The World Bank has recently released the ‘Commodity Markets Outlook report for October 2022’. As per the report, Global energy prices will ease in the next couple of years but remain higher than the historic average.
The report also noted that Energy prices are expected to fall by 11 per cent in 2023 and 12 per cent in 2024.

Election Commission of India has hosted a two-day international conference on the theme ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’ at New Delhi.
The ECI leads the Cohort on ‘Election Integrity’ which was established as a follow on to the ‘Summit for Democracy’, an initiative of US President which was hosted in December, 2021.
