A workshop on ‘Role of meter class telescopes in modern-day astronomy’ was organised to commemorate the completion of 50 years of successful operations of the Sampurnanand Telescope (ST).
It is a world-class telescope located near Nainital in the state of Uttarakhand. The 104 cm telescope at Manora Peak was established in 1972. The important results contributed by the telescope include the discovery of new rings around Saturn and the rings of Uranus.

China’s President Xi Jinping has secured a historic third term as the Communist Party’s leader, creating his place as the country’s most influential ruler since Mao Zedong.
Chinese communist revolutionary and founder of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Zedong ruled the country from 1949 to 1959 for two terms. The former President Hu Jintao also ruled for two terms from 2003 to 2013. Xi has been the paramount leader of China since 2012.

Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena recently announced a one-time property tax amnesty scheme
Under the Strengthening & Augmentation of Municipal Revenue for Infrastructure Development in Delhi (SAMRIDDHI) 2022-23 scheme, the NCR people will be able to pay the principal amount of the current and pending tax of past five years for residential properties.

The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) has approved genetically modified (GM) mustard for commercial cultivation,
Technically called Dhara Mustard Hybrid-11 (DMH-11), it was developed by the Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants of Delhi University and the National Dairy Development Board and partly funded by the department of biotechnology.

President Droupadi Murmu is set to present the Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner to the President’s Bodyguard.
As the PBG is the President of India’s own troop, it possesses the distinction of being the only military unit of the Indian Army privileged to carry the President’s Silver Trumpet and Trumpet Banner.

The UNSC’s counter-terrorism meeting will be hosted in Mumbai and Delhi in the month of October. The overarching theme of the meeting would be ‘Countering the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.’
The focus is on rapid development and increasing threat of use for terrorist purposes of 3 technologies – 1) internet, including social media, 2) new payment technologies and fundraising methods, 3) unmanned aerial systems, including drones.

Gujarat’s Modhera has been declared as India’s first 24X7 solar-powered village. It is also a ‘net-zero’ energy community, meeting 100 per cent of its energy requirements using on-site solar power.
At present nearly 1,380 households in the Modhera area have solar rooftop systems. This has been achieved as a result of Project Suryagram (Sun Village). A ground-mounted solar power plant with 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) was also set up.

The Navies of India and Singapore are participating in the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) at Visakhapatnam.
The Indian Navy is hosting the 29th edition of SIMBEX-2022 in two phases – Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam followed by the Sea Phase in Bay of Bengal. SIMBEX series of exercises began in 1994 and were initially known as Exercise Lion King.

The government announced that a transport aircraft manufacturing facility for the Indian Air Force will come up in Vadodara.
40 of the 56 C-295MW transport aircraft being procured from Airbus Defence and Space SA will be manufactured at the new facility in Vadodara. This is for the first time, the C-295 aircraft will be manufactured outside of Europe. They will be manufactured in India by Tata consortium of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led by TASL.

About 27 tigers in the sugarcane fields in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Uttar Pradesh, will now be relocated to the newly-notified Ranipur Tiger Reserve (RTR).
Ranipur Tiger Reserve (RTR), the fourth in Uttar Pradesh, does not have any population of resident tigers at present.
