Notes:
The United Nations (UN) marks October 24 to October 30 as Disarmament Week each year. On October 24, the United Nations (UN) was established in 1945. The United Nations General Assembly had a special session on disarmament in 1978 and Disarmament Week was first observed.
The United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC) was established in 1952. It was tasked with creating documents for treaties to regulate the number of armed forces and weapons of nations.

Notes:
The Union government is set to enhance the legal powers for the Competition Commission of India (CCI), making it ready to be merged with the National Anti-profiteering Authority, whose term ends in November.
CCI regulates the behaviour of businesses and monitors actions that may stifle competition by way of anti-competitive agreements or the abuse of dominance. NAA investigates cases across industries including cement, steel, tyre, shipping and digital economy.

Notes:
The Indian Government has officially restricted the use of the widely used herbicide, glyphosate, fearing risk to human and animal health.
After this announcement, glyphosate will be applied only through pest control operators (PCOs). Glyphosate has been majorly used in tea plantations in India. They are also licensed to use deadly chemicals for treating pests such as rodents.

China has started dispensing an inhalable COVID-19 vaccine to its people. According to the Shanghai city administration, the free booster dose of the vaccine is being made available to those who have already had vaccinations.
It comprises of a mist that is breathed in via the lips. The ‘needle-free’ vaccines are expected to increase vaccination rates in countries with weak health systems.

Gujarat’s Modhera has been declared as India’s first 24X7 solar-powered village. It is also a ‘net-zero’ energy community, meeting 100 per cent of its energy requirements using on-site solar power.
At present nearly 1,380 households in the Modhera area have solar rooftop systems. This has been achieved as a result of Project Suryagram (Sun Village). A ground-mounted solar power plant with 15 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) was also set up.

NASA’s Dragonfly rotorcraft is scheduled to reach the Selk Crater region on Saturn’s moon Titan in the year 2034.
Cassini spacecraft has sent some radar images of the area during its 13 years of exploring the Saturn system. Dragonfly is also the first flying machine for a world in the outer solar system.

The Gujarat government has achieved 100% tap water connections in rural areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The Mission, which was launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2019, targets to make available 55 litres of water per person every day to each rural household through household tap connections by 2024. Haryana, Goa, Telangana, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Puducherry, Andaman, and Nicobar Island have already achieved 100 per cent tap water in households.

Indian and the US Defence Forces will conduct the battalion-level ‘Yudh Abhyas’ exercise between = at Auli in Uttarakhand, 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Before this, the member countries of the ‘QUAD’ association will conduct the Malabar exercise off Yokosuka in Japan. The ‘Quad’ includes the US, Japan, Australia and India. Around 350 soldiers from each country will take part in the military exercise.

Notes:
Indian Air Force (IAF) and French Air and Space Force (FASF) are participating in a bilateral exercise, named ‘Garuda VIl’ at Air Force Station Jodhpur.
In this exercise, the IAF is participating with Su-30 MKI, Rafale, LCA Tejas and Jaguar fighter aircraft, as well as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and Mi-17 helicopters. This is the seventh edition of the bilateral exercise.

Notes:
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology notified the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Amendment Rules, 2022.
As per the amendment, one or more Grievance Appellate Committees will be established, which will comprise a chairperson and two whole-time members appointed by the central government. The centrally appointed appellate panels would be set up in three months to resolve social media users’ grievances.
