As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the deep depression over Bay of Bengal intensified into a cyclone.
The cyclone, named Sitrang by Thailand, is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm with wind speed reaching 90 to 100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph. If realised, this will be the first cyclone to develop in the Bay of Bengal in October since 2018, as the last October cyclone in the Bay of Bengal was Titli in 2018.

Former British finance minister Rishi Sunak is set to become Britain’s next prime minister. The 42-year-old will become the country’s third prime minister in less than two months, after his predecessor, Liz Truss, was brought down after just six weeks in office.
The ‘Roadmap 2030 for India-UK future relations’ was launched last year.

The United States is set to retrieve its older HAWK air defence equipment to send to Ukraine which is facing a heavy attack from Russian drone-fired and cruise missiles.
HAWK, short for ‘Homing All the Way Killer,’ entered service with the US Army in 1959, during the Vietnam war. The HAWK interceptor missiles would be an upgrade to the Stinger missile system. The US sent the shoulder-fired anti-aircraft Stingers to Ukraine early in the war.

The Union Ministry of Telecommunication unveiled new policy reforms for satellite communications services.
It aims to ease procedures and streamline clearances to fast-track the rollout of Satcom across the country, especially in remote areas. Union Telecom Minister said that the current pace of tower deployment needs to increase from 2,500 towers a week to 10,000 towers per week.

As per a recent Lancet report, heat-related deaths increased by 68 per cent between 2000-2004 and 2017-2021.
As per the report, vulnerable populations were exposed to 3.7 billion more heatwave days last year than annually in 1986-2005.  The study that focused on health effects of climate change amid Covid pandemic, global energy and cost-of-living crisis due to Russia-Ukraine war.

The 8th Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa was held in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan attended key event for policy discussions on Africa. This is the first time that India participated at the Ministerial level in the event. He also addressed the Forum on the topic of ‘Global Crises and Sovereignty in Africa’.

Spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi has been appointed the Chair of the country’s Civil 20 (C20), an official engagement group of the Group of 20 (G20), by the Indian government.
India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023. The C20 is the platform of G-20, for civil-society organisations (CSOs) to bring forth non-government and non-business voices to the G20 leaders.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced equal match fee for both men and women cricket players of India.
As per new rules, the payment for Tests will be 15 lakh rupees, 6 lakh rupees for ODIs, and 3 lakh rupees for T-20. This is regarded as BCCI’s first step towards tackling gender- discrimination.

The SatCom Industry Association (SIAIndia) has organised a three-day India Space Congress, ISC 2022, in New Delhi.
The theme of ISC 2022 is ‘Leveraging Space to Power Next-Gen Communication & Businesses’.  Speakers from 30 countries participated in the event, which is supported by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ministry of Defence, Niti Aayog, In-Space, New Space India Ltd (NSIL) and the Department of Telecommunication.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology notified the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Amendment Rules, 2022.
As per the amendment, one or more Grievance Appellate Committees will be established, which will comprise a chairperson and two whole-time members appointed by the central government. The centrally appointed appellate panels would be set up in three months to resolve social media users’ grievances.
