Penguin Tazuni has been unveiled as the official mascot of next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The design is based on the Eudyptula minor species found in both host countries, and the name combines the Tasman Sea and the word ‘Unity’. Tazuni is a 15-year-old midfielder whose story involves her falling in love with football after playing with a group of children on a beach.

India ranks third in the world’s first-ever global research on the rise of centi-millionaires, according to a new survey by advisory firm Henley & Partners.
Centi-millionaires are individuals with assets worth more than Rs. 830 crore (USD 100 million). India has 1,132 of the world’s 25,490 centi-millionaires, as it outnumbers countries such as the UK, Russia, and Switzerland. USA and China are in the first two places.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot gave assent to the ordinance to increase the reservation for the Scheduled Castes from 15 per cent to 17 per cent and the Scheduled Tribes from 3 per cent to 7 per cent in the state.
The Karnataka cabinet approved an ordinance for increasing the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribe communities.

The Cricket Association for the Blind in India announced former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh as their brand ambassador for the 3rd T20 World Cup for the Blind.
The World Cup matches will be held in the month of December. The participating countries in the World Cup for the Blind are India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the three-week-long cultural festival ‘Jashn-e-Kashmir’- New Kashmir New Hope at Srinagar.
The Cultural Festival is being organized by All J&K Folk Artists Association, Shah Qalander Folk Theatre, in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and the Office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. It aims to celebrate tradition, culture and heritage of the region.

The United States is set to retrieve its older HAWK air defence equipment to send to Ukraine which is facing a heavy attack from Russian drone-fired and cruise missiles.
HAWK, short for ‘Homing All the Way Killer,’ entered service with the US Army in 1959, during the Vietnam war. The HAWK interceptor missiles would be an upgrade to the Stinger missile system. The US sent the shoulder-fired anti-aircraft Stingers to Ukraine early in the war.

The Navigation with Indian Constellation (NaVIC) is the India’s equivalent of the Global Positioning System (GPS).
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is working on a series of improvements to the NavIC, so that more people are motivated to install it and use it. Plans are being made to expand its reach to global level.

The Union Ministry of Environment, forest, and climate change (MoEFCC) has approved to set up Terai Elephant Reserve (TER) in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.
The Terai Elephant Reserve (TER) would be the 33rd in the country and second in Uttar Pradesh. The first elephant reserve in Uttar Pradesh was notified in Shivalik in Saharanpur and Bijnor districts in 2009.

The “Emissions Gap Report 2022: The Closing Window” was released by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
India’s per capita greenhouse gas emissions were at 2.4 tCO2e (tonne carbon dioxide equivalent), which is far below the world average of 6.3 tCO2e in 2020. The US contributed the highest emissions of 14 tCO2e, followed by 13 tCO2e in Russia and 9.7 tCO2e in China.

The World Bank has recently released the ‘Commodity Markets Outlook report for October 2022’. As per the report, Global energy prices will ease in the next couple of years but remain higher than the historic average.
The report also noted that Energy prices are expected to fall by 11 per cent in 2023 and 12 per cent in 2024.
