Scientists on the Nekton Maldives Mission have discovered evidence of ‘The Trapping Zone’. It has been described as ‘an oasis of oceanic life’, 500 metres below the surface.
As per the country’s president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the discovery of ‘The Trapping Zone’ and the oasis of life surrounding the Maldives provides with new knowledge that will support fisheries and tourism.

Recently, President Draupadi Murmu launched India’s latest super computer Param-Kamrupa, a high-performance computing cluster named after Assam’s historic kingdom of Kamrupa. This supercomputer facility has replaced Param-Ishan as the northeast region’s fastest and most powerful supercomputer. Param-Ishan was inaugurated in IIT Guwahati in 2016. Param-Kamrupa was set up at IIT Guwahati under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) – a joint initiative of the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) and the department of Science and Technology (DST). There were 15 such super computers that were deployed across the country.

3rd World Kuchipudi Natyotsavam started from October 14 in Vijayawada. It is a three-day dance festival that is being organized to commemorate the 93rd birth anniversary of renowned Kuchipudi dance artist Vempati China Satyam.

2023 AFC Asian Cup will be the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Asia organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It will be held in Qatar from 16 June to 16 July 2023. The tournament will involve 24 national teams after expansion in 2019. Hosts Qatar are the defending champions.

World Food Day is observed annually on 16 October to highlight need for regular access to nutritious food.
The Day is led by The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the theme for 2022 is Leave NO ONE behind.

As per a recent study conducted by industry body Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and consultancy firm EY, India may attract USD 475 billion in FDI over next five years.
The study also found that majority of multinational companies (MNCs) operating in India feel that the country’s economy will perform well over the next 3-5 years, backed by the strong momentum in domestic consumption, services, digital economy and infrastructure.

World Cup winner Roger Binny was elected as the 36th president of the BCCI, taking over from Sourav Ganguly at the BCCI Annual general Meeting.
However, the issue of the chairmanship of International Cricket Council (ICC) remained unsettled. Jay Shah was re-elected as the Secretary for a second successive term.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Indian Urban Housing Conclave-2022’ a three-day event being organised by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Rajkot, Gujarat.
The Conclave will provide a platform to demonstrate technologies as well as discuss various materials and processes for housing construction suitable for different Geo-climatic regions of the country. The Prime Minister also dedicated 1100 houses constructed under Light House Project.
