‘Bharat Krishi Satellite programme’ is ISRO’s dedicated programme in agriculture sector. It will span agricultural related activities, pesticides, irrigation, crop data, drought statistics etc. A minimum of 2 satellites will be required to cover the entire agricultural area of the country.

ISRO chairman Sreedhara Panicker Somanath made the announcement of the new NGLV launch during a press conference on the sidelines of ‘Engineers Conclave 2022’ at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiyamala. NGLV will be cost-efficient three-stage reusable heavy-lift vehicle with a payload capacity of ten tonnes to Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO). NGLV is using semi-cryogenic technology which will be both efficient and cost-effective.

Controller General of Accounts (CGA) is ‘the Principal Advisor’ on Accounting matters to the Union Government. CGA is responsible for establishing and managing a technically sound Management Accounting System and preparation & submission of the accounts of the Union Government. CGA is also responsible for exchequer control and internal audits for central Government.

The European parliament has awarded its annual Sakharov prize for freedom of thought to the people of Ukraine, to honour their fight against Russia’s invasion.
The award comes with prize money of 50,000 Euros, which will be distributed to representatives of Ukrainian civil society. The prize, named after the late Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, has been awarded since 1988 to individuals and organisations defending human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s premier defence exposition, DefExpo 2022, in Gandhinagar.
This is the first defence expo where only Indian companies are participating and it features only Made-in-India defence equipment. ‘Mission DefSpace’ was also launched to develop innovative solutions for the space domain through industry and start-ups. In 2021-22 India’s defence exports reached Rs 13,000 crore. And the next year’s target is to reach USD 5 billion i.e., Rs 40,000 crore.

‘World Statistics Day 2022’ falls on October 20 every five years. The day was designated in 2010 by the United Nations Statistical Commission to highlight the importance of statistics and the significance of academic research on development of business and civil society.
The theme of this year is ‘Data for Sustainable Development’.

Homegrown fintech platform PhonePe announced the launch of its first green data centre in India, at Mahape, Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra.
The platform has leveraged technologies and solutions from Dell Technologies and NTT. The facility will open up new opportunities in data management with efficient data security and power efficiency. The centre will also help the company to build sustainable infrastructure to scale its operations across the country.

Uttar Pradesh has recently bagged projects worth Rs 16,000 crore in the new-age sector. The government is in the process of amending its existing data centre policy to attract more private sector investors.
The state’s first data centre park is to be inaugurated in Greater Noida. The Rs 5,000 crore mega park has shared information technology (IT) activities and equipment to store, process, and disseminate information and applications.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone of various connectivity projects at Mana village of Chamoli district in the state of Uttarakhand.
The two road widening projects including one from Mana to Mana Pass, shall provide last-mile all-weather road connectivity to our border areas. The ropeways, which are being developed in the state, provide environment-friendly mode of transport.

The Tamil Nadu Government has formed a State-level Committee to set up an institutional framework for the effective conservation of vultures.
Vultures almost went extinct in the country at the beginning of the 21st century. A decline of 96% has been registered in India’s vulture population between 1993 and 2003. The Central government introduced two action plans to protect the species at the national level.
