Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) in association with Power-CSIRTS conducted Cyber Security Exercise “PowerEX-2022”. The main objective of the exercise is to “Recognize, Analyse & Respond to Cyber Incidents in IT & OT Systems”. The theme of the exercise was “Defending Cyber induced disruption in IT & OT infrastructure”. More than 350 officials from various Power Sector Utilities participated in the exercise. Exercise “PowerEX” was hosted by CERT-In on its exercise simulation platform.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed on 17th October to raise awareness about the global issue of poverty. The theme for this year is ‘Dignity For all in Practice’.
In 1992, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution designating October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. According to the UN, ‘dignity’ is a fundamental right and the basis of other fundamental rights and every human being is entitled to dignity.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced that she will step down from the position leader of the Conservative Party after her policies triggered economic turmoil and divided the party.
Truss, who has been prime minister for just 45 days, also announced that she will remain as prime minister and party leader until a successor is chosen.

‘Police Commemoration Day’ is observed on October 21 every year, which commemorates the sacrifices of ten CRPF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
On October 21, 1959, ten Indian policemen were killed during an attack by Chinese troops in the Hot Springs region close to Ladakh.

India test-fired indigenously developed new generation medium-range ballistic missile ‘Agni Prime’ (Agni-P) from the Odisha coast.
As per the Defence Research and Development Organisation, Agni Prime is a new generation advanced variant of the Agni class of missiles with range capability between 1,000 and 2,000km.

The next edition of the Indian wind industry’s biennial exhibition-cum-conference, Windergy, is to be held in Chennai, next year.
As the state of Tamil Nadu has a strong presence of the industry’s supply chain, the event will be held at the Chennai Trade Center.

A workshop on ‘Role of meter class telescopes in modern-day astronomy’ was organised to commemorate the completion of 50 years of successful operations of the Sampurnanand Telescope (ST).
It is a world-class telescope located near Nainital in the state of Uttarakhand. The 104 cm telescope at Manora Peak was established in 1972. The important results contributed by the telescope include the discovery of new rings around Saturn and the rings of Uranus.

The United Nations (UN) marks October 24 to October 30 as Disarmament Week each year. On October 24, the United Nations (UN) was established in 1945. The United Nations General Assembly had a special session on disarmament in 1978 and Disarmament Week was first observed.
The United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC) was established in 1952. It was tasked with creating documents for treaties to regulate the number of armed forces and weapons of nations.

Pakistan and China have decided to launch three new corridors besides the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The three are China-Pakistan Green Corridor (CPGC), which will focus on agricultural environment, food security and green development; the China-Pakistan Health Corridor (CPHC), which will help Pakistan get efficiency in the medical field; and the China-Pakistan Digital Corridor (CPDC), which will boost Pakistan’s IT industry.
