India has moved up six places in the Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index (CRII) 2022. India has been ranked 123 out of 161 countries in the Commitment to Reducing Inequality Index (CRII) 2022. It has been prepared by Oxfam International and Development Finance International (DFI). It measures government policies and actions in three areas: public services (health, education, and social protection), taxation, and workers’ rights.

Since 2011, October 17 is celebrated as World Trauma Day to prevent the increasing rate of accidents and injuries causing death and disability across the world.

As per the US government-funded NGO Freedom House, India’s internet freedom score improved by two points to 51 after efforts to bridge the digital divide in the country.
India’s score was 49 in Internet Freedom in 2021. The improvement in the score is also based on reduced frequency and intensity of internet shutdowns in the country.

India was ranked 41 out of 44 countries in the Mercer CFS Global Pension Index, as compared to 40th out of 43 countries in 2021.
The survey pointed out that India needs to strengthen its regulatory framework and boost the pension coverage across the country under private pension arrangements.

Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan launched the draft of National Credit Framework (NCrF) for public consultation.
NCrF will integrate the credits earned through school education, higher education and vocational and skill education by encompassing the National Higher Education Qualification Framework (NHEQF), National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and National School Education Qualification Framework (NSEQF).

‘World Statistics Day 2022’ falls on October 20 every five years. The day was designated in 2010 by the United Nations Statistical Commission to highlight the importance of statistics and the significance of academic research on development of business and civil society.
The theme of this year is ‘Data for Sustainable Development’.

State-owned REC Ltd and Power Finance Corporation have signed a pact to provide Rs 8,520.92 crore finance for setting up a 1,320 MW thermal power plant at Buxar by SJVN Thermal Private Ltd.
According to the statement, the total estimated project cost is Rs 12,172.74 crore with debt requirement of Rs 8,520.92 crore. As per the agreement, the debt requirement shall be financed by REC and PFC.

The ‘Great Indian Bustard’ (GIB), which is the State bird of Rajasthan, is also considered India’s most critically endangered bird. GIB is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Its population of about 150 in Rajasthan accounts for 95% of its total world population. Recently, some birds are spotted in Pakistan and the environmentalists suspect of migration of the birds. The was added to the world list of protected species of the ‘Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals’.

Allmania multiflora, a new plant species has been spotted on the granite hillocks of Palakkad, Kerala. It is a new plant species of the genus Allmania.
Allmania multiflora is only the second species of this genus identified so far. It is an annual herb that grows to a height of about 60 cm. The genus and the first species were described by botanists 188 years.
