India has entered into a collaboration with California for research and innovation in the field of zero-emission vehicles.
The California-India ZEV Policy programme is aimed at supporting ZEV uptake in India, promoting the development of an EV industry in India and contributing to India’s industrial growth. As part of the collaboration, a new India ZEV Research Centre was also set up.

Every year International Translation Day is observed on September 30 to honour the work of translators and language professionals across the world.
The theme for this year’s International Translation Day is ‘A world without barriers’. September 30 was chosen as it also coincides with the feast of the Bible translator, St. Jerome.

Srishti Bakshi, a women’s rights activist from India, was honoured with the ‘Changemaker’ award at the UN SDG Action Awards.
The activist has travelled 3,800km around the country in less than a year to raise awareness on gender-based violence and inequality. She was awarded for “confronting gender-based violence and advocating for safe access to public spaces.”

Uttarakhand received the first prize in two categories, for the best adventure tourism destination and all-around development of tourism from the Ministry of Tourism.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar presented National Tourism Awards 2018-19, on the occasion of World Tourism Day. He also launched photography and videography contest during the event.

Tokenization is the process of replacing original card details with an alternative code called a ‘token’. The token would be unique and it provides an additional degree of protection for customer card details.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 2019 allowed card networks to tokenize card transactions. The deadline for successful execution of tokenization of card-based payments was October 1.

The Delhi government announced a 15-point ‘Winter Action Plan’ to curb air pollution in the Capital region.
It would include the installation of 233 anti-smog guns and deployment of at least 150 mobile anti-smog guns. The government is carrying out research in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur to know the amount of pollution and its source at any given point of time.

In October 2021, RBI announced the scale-based NBFC regulation, which has four layers: base layer, middle layer, upper layer and top layer.
Recently, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a list of 16 upper layer non-banking finance companies (NBFC-ULs) that must adhere to enhanced regulation. It includes LIC Housing Finance, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Shriram Transport among others.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched new initiatives to stop the spread of invasive malaria vectors in Africa.
Anopheles stephensi is the primary mosquito vector, responsible for causing malaria in urban environments. The initiative aims to support a regional response to Anopheles stephensi on the African continent. The WHO had also released Global Vector Control Response 2017-2030.

Telangana won the first prize under the Large States category under Swachh Survekshan Gramin (SSG) 2022.
Indian President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards which looked into the sanitation status of rural areas. Haryana was named the second and Tamil Nadu the third best state in the SSG Awards 2022.  In the second phase of Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, the aim is to make all six lakh villages in India free of open defecation.

World Habitat Day is observed on the first Monday of October, which marks the beginning of Urban October.
This year it falls on October 3 and World Habitat Day 2022 is observed under the theme ‘Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind’. World Habitat Day was first celebrated in 1986 in Nairobi, Kenya, with the theme ‘Shelter is my right’.
