Srishti Bakshi, a women’s rights activist from India, was honoured with the ‘Changemaker’ award at the UN SDG Action Awards.
The activist has travelled 3,800km around the country in less than a year to raise awareness on gender-based violence and inequality. She was awarded for “confronting gender-based violence and advocating for safe access to public spaces.”

World Habitat Day is observed on the first Monday of October, which marks the beginning of Urban October.
This year it falls on October 3 and World Habitat Day 2022 is observed under the theme ‘Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind’. World Habitat Day was first celebrated in 1986 in Nairobi, Kenya, with the theme ‘Shelter is my right’.

Forest Survey of India (FSI) released a report on Tiger safari project in Corbett Reserve, based on field visits and an analysis of satellite images.
As per the report, over 6,000 trees on 16.21 hectares of land were felled for the proposed Pakhro tiger safari project in Corbett Tiger Reserve. A Supreme Court advocate and wildlife activist filed a petition in October 2021.

The sixth edition of the award was presented recently. Anees Salim’s The Odd Book of Baby Names and Rudrangshu Mukherjee’s Tagore & Gandhi: Walking Alone, Walking Together were adjudged the best books of the year in English fiction and English non-fiction categories.

Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane inaugurated the Khadi Fest – 2022 Exhibition in Mumbai.
The Khadi Fest – 2022 has been organized by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. This time the exhibition has been organized after a gap of two years. In 2021-22, KVIC registered record exports of more than Rs.257 crore.

In 2021-22, India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of sugar as well as the world’s second largest exporter of sugar.
India’s sugar exports rose 57 per cent to 109.8 lakh tonnes during 2021-22 marketing year which ended September. This resulted in foreign currency inflow worth about Rs 40,000 crore into the country.

National Payments Corporation of India and Central Bank Of Oman signed a MoU to launch the Rupay debit card in Oman.
As per the Embassy of India in Oman, there are about 6,24,000 Indians in Oman. At present, the UAE, Bhutan and Singapore have accepted RuPay-based cards and UPI in the country, and Nepal has allowed usage of RuPay cards.

Australian telecom giant Optus said personal information and form of identification of 1.2 million customers was compromised in the recent cyber attack.

It is considered as one of the biggest cyber breaches the country has faced. The breach affected 10 million customers, equivalent to around 40% of Australia’s population. The federal government has released changes to telecommunications laws, after the breach.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has clarified that there will be no charge for RuPay credit card use on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions up to ₹2,000.
Nil Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) would apply for this category up to the transaction amount less than and equal to ₹2,000. In September, RBI Governor launched the Rupay credit card on UPI network.

A global alert has been issued over four cough syrups after the World Health Organization (WHO) warned they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in Gambia.
A popular tourist destination Gambia detected an increase in cases of acute kidney injury among children under the age of five. It also lacks a laboratory to check the safety of medicines.
