The Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 36th National Games open at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the ‘Swarnim Gujarat Sports University’ in Desar, Gujarat. Gujarat is hosting the National Games for the first time. Around 15,000 sportspersons, coaches, and officials from across the country will participate in 36 sports disciplines.

Uttarakhand received the first prize in two categories, for the best adventure tourism destination and all-around development of tourism from the Ministry of Tourism.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar presented National Tourism Awards 2018-19, on the occasion of World Tourism Day. He also launched photography and videography contest during the event.

Nikhil Kamath, the cofounder of Zerodha, topped the ‘IIFL Wealth Hurun India 40 & Under Self-Made Rich List 2022’ with a net worth of Rs 17,500 crore.
Bhavish Aggarwal (Rs 11,700 crore), the founder of Ola, came in second place and Divyank Turakhia (Rs 11,200 crore) of Media.net in third place. Kaivalya Vohra, the 19-year-old co-founder of Zepto, instant Grocery app, is the youngest self-made entrepreneur, while Neha Narkhede, co-founder of Confluent, streaming data Tech Company, is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.

October 1 is observed as the International Day of Older Persons across the world every year. It was introduced by the United Nations General Assembly with an aim of honouring the contribution of older persons and focussing on the problems they face.
This year, the theme for the International Day of Older Persons is ‘Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World’.

At least 125 people have been killed and dozens were injured in a stampede at the Kanjurujan Football Stadium, Malang in Indonesia.
Police said about 3,000 people had stormed the pitchafter Arema FC lost to Persebaya Surabaya. Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya are long-time rivals and the latter club’s fans were not allowed to buy tickets for the game due to fears of violence.

The Telangana state government has introduced the ‘Aasara’ pensions, with an aim of ensuring secured life for all the poor people across the states.
It is a welfare scheme of pensions to old people, widows, physically disabled and beedi workers of the state.

India’s Mars orbiter craft has completed eight years in its orbit, beyond its designed mission life of six months.
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is the maiden interplanetary mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in September 2014 in its first attempt. ISRO is yet to announce its plans on a follow-on ‘Mangalyaan’ mission to the Mars.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk presented a prototype humanoid robot named ‘Optimus’ that shares artificial intelligence software and sensors with its cars’ Autopilot driver assistance features.
The Optimus robot is designed for mass production in millions of units. It carries a 2.3kWh battery pack, runs on a Tesla SoC, and contains Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity. The human-like hands with ‘Biologically Inspired Design’ will make them suitable for picking up objects of various shapes and sizes, holding a bag, and containing a precision grip on small parts.

In an important judgment, the Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional to distinguish between married and unmarried women while allowing abortion when the foetus is between 20-24 weeks.
The court also said the term ‘woman’ in the judgment included persons other than cisgender women. ‘Cisgender’ is used to define people whose gender identity and expression match the identity assigned to them at birth. For transgender people, their sense of gender identity does not match the one assigned to them at birth.

In 2021-22, India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of sugar as well as the world’s second largest exporter of sugar.
India’s sugar exports rose 57 per cent to 109.8 lakh tonnes during 2021-22 marketing year which ended September. This resulted in foreign currency inflow worth about Rs 40,000 crore into the country.
