UNESCO released a list of 50 exclusive and iconic heritage textile crafts of India named ‘Handmade for the 21st Century: Safeguarding Traditional Indian Textile’.
It describes the processes behind their making, mentions the causes for their declining popularity and provides strategies for their preservation. Toda embroidery and Sungadi from Tamil Nadu, Himroo weaves from Hyderabad and Bandha tie and dye weaving from Odisha are some of the crafts included.

Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy paid tributes to ‘People’s poet’ Gurram Jashuva on his 127 th birth anniversary.
Jashuva used verse poetry as a weapon to wage a war against superstitions and evil of untouchability being practised in those times. He also fought against caste discrimination, poverty and economic disparities.

As per University Grant Commission (UGC) Guidelines, Higher Educational Institutions can now create up to 25 percent seats for foreign students.
Universities will be free to choose their admission policy for foreign students, while adopting a transparent admission process. This 25 percent of the supernumerary seats for international students will not include the students under exchange programmes.

National Archives of India, under the Union Culture Ministry organised the ‘Saga of Freedom: Known & Lesser-known Struggle’ exhibition.
It has been extended till 30th October, 2022. This exhibition is based on original government documents, cartographic records, newspapers, private papers and contemporary photographs housed in the National Archives of India.

The Indian Air Force inducted the first batch of indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopters, named Prachand, which are capable of firing a range of missiles and other weapons.
The Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) are developed by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). It has been primarily designed for deployment in high-altitude regions. It was inducted into the IAF at a ceremony in Jodhpur.

Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane inaugurated the Khadi Fest – 2022 Exhibition in Mumbai.
The Khadi Fest – 2022 has been organized by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. This time the exhibition has been organized after a gap of two years. In 2021-22, KVIC registered record exports of more than Rs.257 crore.

The ‘Matdata Junction’ is a radio series produced by the Election Commission of India, in collaboration with All India Radio.
It is a yearlong Voter Awareness Program and the program will be broadcast every on All India Radio network in 23 languages. It will have thematic episodes on voter registration, Informed and Ethical Voting, Value of Vote, Inclusive and Accessible Elections, Model Code of Conduct, EVMs among others.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk presented a prototype humanoid robot named ‘Optimus’ that shares artificial intelligence software and sensors with its cars’ Autopilot driver assistance features.
The Optimus robot is designed for mass production in millions of units. It carries a 2.3kWh battery pack, runs on a Tesla SoC, and contains Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity. The human-like hands with ‘Biologically Inspired Design’ will make them suitable for picking up objects of various shapes and sizes, holding a bag, and containing a precision grip on small parts.

It received about 1.777 million foreign tourist visits, which was higher than Maharashtra’s 1.512 million.
