NASSCOM Foundation and American Express have partnered to train and upskill 700 women graduates through an employment-linked training project, ‘
Under the ‘Women Empowerment Through Technology’ project, technology-based skill development and entrepreneurship training will be given to women. The technical courses include Cloud and Data Analytics, Blockchain, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

Srishti Bakshi, a women’s rights activist from India, was honoured with the ‘Changemaker’ award at the UN SDG Action Awards.
The activist has travelled 3,800km around the country in less than a year to raise awareness on gender-based violence and inequality. She was awarded for “confronting gender-based violence and advocating for safe access to public spaces.”

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 36th National Games open at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the ‘Swarnim Gujarat Sports University’ in Desar, Gujarat. Gujarat is hosting the National Games for the first time. Around 15,000 sportspersons, coaches, and officials from across the country will participate in 36 sports disciplines.

Uttarakhand received the first prize in two categories, for the best adventure tourism destination and all-around development of tourism from the Ministry of Tourism.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar presented National Tourism Awards 2018-19, on the occasion of World Tourism Day. He also launched photography and videography contest during the event.

Global payments and technology company Mastercard is set to roll out the Carbon Calculator feature to Indian banks.
The personalised carbon footprint tracker can inform consumers the cumulative effect of carbon footprint across the monthly spending categories. Mastercard Carbon Calculator, developed in collaboration with Swedish fintech Doconomy, is used in over 25 countries at present.

Tokenization is the process of replacing original card details with an alternative code called a ‘token’. The token would be unique and it provides an additional degree of protection for customer card details.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 2019 allowed card networks to tokenize card transactions. The deadline for successful execution of tokenization of card-based payments was October 1.

Power Finance Corporation has partnered with Valley of Words initiative to present PFC-VoW Book Awards.
The sixth edition of the award was presented recently. Anees Salim’s The Odd Book of Baby Names and Rudrangshu Mukherjee’s Tagore & Gandhi: Walking Alone, Walking Together were adjudged the best books of the year in English fiction and English non-fiction categories.

As per the government data, over 69% of houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), are either wholly or jointly owned by women in rural areas.
The data also showed that as on September 29, 2022, a total of two crore houses had been constructed out of the 2.46 crore houses that were sanctioned.

Shyamji Krishna Varma was a revolutionary freedom fighter, who founded the Indian Home Rule Society, India House and The Indian Sociologist in London to promote the cause of Indian nationalism and freedom.
He was born in Gujarat in 1857 and passed away in 1930 in  Geneva, Switzerland. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to revolutionary freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma on his birth anniversary.

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named as the recipient of Nansen Award given by UN High Commissioner for Refugees
The former scientist, who led her country for 16 years, was awarded for offering haven to over 1.2 million refugees and asylum seekers fleeing violence during Syrian conflict, when other countries were turning their backs on them.
