The United States hosted a historic summit and signed a partnership agreement with more than a dozen Pacific island nations including Fiji, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, Tonga among others.
US President Joe Biden announce that the country was committed to increasing its presence in the region amidst growing concern about China’s growing military and economic influence. Australia and New Zealand also participated in the summit as observers.

Uttarakhand received the first prize in two categories, for the best adventure tourism destination and all-around development of tourism from the Ministry of Tourism.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar presented National Tourism Awards 2018-19, on the occasion of World Tourism Day. He also launched photography and videography contest during the event.

Nikhil Kamath, the cofounder of Zerodha, topped the ‘IIFL Wealth Hurun India 40 & Under Self-Made Rich List 2022’ with a net worth of Rs 17,500 crore.
Bhavish Aggarwal (Rs 11,700 crore), the founder of Ola, came in second place and Divyank Turakhia (Rs 11,200 crore) of Media.net in third place. Kaivalya Vohra, the 19-year-old co-founder of Zepto, instant Grocery app, is the youngest self-made entrepreneur, while Neha Narkhede, co-founder of Confluent, streaming data Tech Company, is the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.

Haryana has announced that two international firms will be hired to develop the world’s largest jungle safari park spread across 10,000 acres in the Aravalli range.
The proposed project will be jointly developed by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and the Haryana government. At present, the largest curated safari park outside Africa is in Sharjah, which spans 2,000 acres.

Russia’s Vladimir Putin will annex four more areas of Ukraine to Russia, after referendums were held in Luhansk and Donetsk in the east, and in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in the south.
Russia’s annexation of Crimea was undertaken in 2014. The US has announced that it will impose sanctions on Russia because of the staged referendums.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched new initiatives to stop the spread of invasive malaria vectors in Africa.
Anopheles stephensi is the primary mosquito vector, responsible for causing malaria in urban environments. The initiative aims to support a regional response to Anopheles stephensi on the African continent. The WHO had also released Global Vector Control Response 2017-2030.

As per the government data, over 69% of houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), are either wholly or jointly owned by women in rural areas.
The data also showed that as on September 29, 2022, a total of two crore houses had been constructed out of the 2.46 crore houses that were sanctioned.

President Droupadi Murmu launched ‘herSTART’, a startup platform for women entrepreneurs created by Gujarat University in Ahmedabad.
The platform dedicated to women entrepreneurs, will boost innovation and startup efforts of women entrepreneurs and connect women entrepreneurs with various government and private enterprises.

PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia have been voted FIH Men’s and Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the second year in a row.
Veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia, the captain of the Indian women’s hockey team both received the FIH goalkeeper of the year title in the men’s and women’s categories. Savita is only the third athlete to win Goalkeeper of the Year (Women) for three years in a row.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been jointly awarded to Carolyn Bertozzi, Morton Meldal and Barry Sharpless for their work on snipping molecules together.
Also known as ‘Click chemistry’, it is related to the process of linking together molecules like those in living cells. Their work is used to explore cells, track biological processes and can be applied in cancer treatment drugs.
