The Tropical Cyclone Shaheen has hit the coast of Oman and has caused human and material damage in the region. This cyclone is an offspring of the cyclone Gulab which had a devastating impact on the east coast of India in late September 2021.
The remnant of cyclone Gulab along with the low-pressure region over Gujarat had gained strength to form the new cyclone Shaheen.

The ‘World Animal Day’ is observed every year on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, who is regarded as the patron saint of animals.
The day was celebrated for the first time in the year 1925 by cynologist Heinrich Zimmermann to address the plight of animals and begin work towards their protection — both in the wild and domestic world. World Animal Day was started globally during a world protection organisation conference in Florence, Italy in 1931.

Gujarat Legislative Assembly has unanimously revoked the Gujarat Private Universities (Second Amendment) Bill 2021.
Four months ago, the state government had passed an ordinance allowing grant-in-aid colleges to affiliate with private universities. It amended the 2009 Act, deleting the clause exempting the grant-in-aid colleges and institutions from affiliating to universities established by their sponsoring bodies. This allowed grant-in-aid colleges to switch affiliations from state-run universities to private ones.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will launch the ‘Swechha’ programme, which aims to promote the health and hygiene of women and adolescent girls.
Under the initiative, the state government will provide sanitary napkins at government educational institutions free of cost. 10 lakh adolescent girls studying from 7th-12th grades in all government schools and intermediate colleges across the state would be provided 10 sanitary napkins will be given every month.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a famed memorial in Arlington National Cemetery – USA, has been constructed to pay tribute to the unidentified service members who died in U.S. conflicts.
The place has been in news recently, since for the first time in 84 years the monument has an all-female guard, which is seen as a milestone in the USA.

The Nobel Prize for Physics 2021 has been awarded recently, in which Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann have been jointly awarded one half of the prize for “physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming”.
The other half of the prize has been awarded to Giorgio Parisi for “the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales”.

The United Arab Emirates announced plans to send a probe to land on an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter to collect data on the origins of the universe.
The UAE would join an elite club of the European Union, Japan and the United States after successful landing. The project targets a 2028 launch with a landing in 2033. It would remain behind on the asteroid, and would transmit information on the composition of the asteroid back to Earth.

Every year on October 8, the country celebrates Indian Air Force Day. This year will celebrate the 89th anniversary of Indian Air Force Day.
The day commemorates the establishment of Indian Air Force (IAF) on the same day in 1932. The first operational squadron was established in April 1933. The day also aims to increase awareness about the Indian Air Force, also known as the ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena’.

Lakhimpur is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It was seen in the news because in the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, nine persons lost their lives.
The Uttar Pradesh government has deputed Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court, to probe the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The judicial commission will have its office in Lakhimpur Kheri and would submit its report within two months.

DeFi stands for Decentralised finance. Defi is the financial ecosystem built on blockchain applications that can used for any financial activity.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is looking to warn on DeFi (decentralised finance) applications and projects. As per media reports, RBI has sought legal advice on their workings. India doesn’t have any regulation to deal with cryptocurrencies as well as DeFi, at present.
