Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has recently announced that he is retiring from politics after the end of his term. He also announced that he will not run for vice president in next year’s elections.
The President’s former aide, Senator Bong Go, filed his candidacy for the Vice Presidency. As per the constitution of Philippine, Presidents are limited by the to a single six-year term. The 76-year-old leader has announced last month that he would run for the vice-presidency in 2022.

Piramal Capital & Housing Finance Limited, a subsidiary of Piramal Enterprises has reverse merged itself with the debt-ridden Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) after paying a sum of Rs.34,250cr to the creditors of DHFL.
The process was fully completed on 30th September 2021, as per the resolution plan under the Insolvency Bankruptcy Code (IBC).

 

Notes:
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently published the latest edition of “Model Lists of Essential Medicines and Essential Medicines for Children”. The new list has prioritized access to diabetes and cancer treatments.
The list has included new medicines to assist people who want to stop smoking and new antimicrobials to treat serious bacterial and fungal infections.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated the winners of ‘Dare to Dream 2.0’ Contest of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO). He also launched ‘Dare to Dream 3.0’ to promote innovators & startups.
Dare to Dream is DRDO’s nation-wide contest to promote Indian academicians, individuals and start-ups to develop defence and aerospace technologies. DRDO provides support to the winners under Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme. DRDO Young Scientists awards for the year 2019 were also presented to 16 DRDO scientists.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has recently inaugurated the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre in the state of Assam.
150 years ago, the iconic Bungalow of Guwahati was constructed to serve as the residence of the British Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup. This heritage centre is located atop Barphukanar Tilla, a small hill named after the Ahom general Lachit Barphukan.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is observing October 5 to October 10, 2021 as Mental Health Awareness Campaign Week, as a part of the World Mental health Day celebration on October 10. This week is observed to raise awareness about mental health and mobilize support in this regard.
As a part of this initiative, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also released the UNICEF’s State of the World’s Children Report

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified the constitution of National Road Safety Board. The Board will be responsible for promoting road safety, innovation and adoption of new technology, and regulation of traffic and motor vehicles.
The Head Office of the Board in the National Capital Region and the board may set up offices at other places in India. It shall consist of the Chairman and not three to seven Members, to be appointed by the Central Government.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has recently released a report titled ‘The State of Climate Services 2021: Water report’.
The report was coordinated by WMO and includes input from more than 20 international organizations, development agencies and scientific institutions. As per the report, some 3.6 billion people globally had inadequate access to water for one month per year in 2018, which is expected to surpass five billion by 2050.

Assam Fisheries Ministry recently launched an application, stated to be India’s first e-fish market app named ‘Fishwaale’.
The application will help both buyers and sellers to place orders and sell fish, aquaculture equipment and medicine, fish feed and fish seed online. Products such as Freshwater and seawater frozen fish, dry fish and processed fish items will be sold. The app was developed by Aqua Blue Global Aquaculture Solutions, in collaboration with the state fisheries department.

The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved the proposal to provide government land in exchange for the private land being acquired for Atal Pragati Path.
It is a 313-km four-lane expressway project implemented under the Bharatmala project. The proposed Atal Pragati Path will pass through Sheopur, Morena and Bhind districts of Madhya Pradesh. The state government is providing land free for the project.
