Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, NITI Aayog along with Invest India are organising a virtual global symposium ‘India PV EDGE 2020’.
The symposium includes sessions on ‘Modules and Production Equipment’ and ‘Supply Chain’ among others. Around 60 top Indian and global CEOs are expected to attend the event virtually.

As per the recent press release issued by the Ministry of Defence, two exercises namely Bongosagar and Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) will be held between India and Bangladesh in October first week.
Under the India Bangladesh Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) exercise, both navies will undertake joint patrolling along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). The exercises are held as part of Prime Minister’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative.

Digital payments firm Paytm has recently launched a mini-app store, with an aim to support Indian developers.
This initiative is seen as a direct challenge to Google in the App store system. The payment app was earlier temporarily removed from Google’s Play Store for violating developer guidelines. Paytm provides listing and distribution of these mini-apps within its application.

Russia recently announced that it has successfully tested a new hypersonic anti-ship cruise missile named ‘Tsirkon’.
The Tsirkon missile was fired from the White Sea in the Russian Arctic and it successfully hit its target 450 kilometres away in the Barents Sea. The missile has also reached a speed of Mach 8 – eight times the speed of sound.

As per the World Bank’s ‘South Asia Economic Focus’ report, India’s GDP is estimated to contract by 9.6 per cent in 2020-21.
Earlier the World Bank had forecasted that the country’s economy would suffer a 3.2 per cent contraction due to the impact of the nationwide lockdown. The report also highlighted that India’s growth would touch 5.4 per cent in 2021-22.

The Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in the North East (SARDP-NE) was launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Recently, the Central Government has increased funding for road development in the Northeast by 95 per cent from Rs 390 crore to Rs 760 crore. This is the second consecutive increase of funding for the region this year.

Taiwan has recently released a new version of its passport which contains the highlighted print of the English word for ‘Taiwan’.
This activity of Taiwan is seen as a clear and strategic move in drawing a distinction between Taiwan and China. The words ‘Republic of China (ROC)’ has been made significantly smaller than the previous edition.

The Reserve Bank has decided to move to the Next Generation Treasury Application (NGTA) for managing the country’s foreign exchange and gold reserves.
NGTA is a web-based application, which would provide flexibility to introduce new products and securities. It can also support multi-currency transactions, settlements and various transactions in asset classes like Fixed Income, Forex, Money Market and Gold.

British Racing driver Lewis Hamilton equalled the all-time record for career Formula 1 victories by winning the Eifel Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes recorded the 91st victory of his career and he equalled the record of Michael Schumacher. Max Verstappen finished second and Daniel Ricciardo finished third.
