The Union Health Ministry achieved three Guinness World Record titles under the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan campaign. The campaign was conducted nationwide from 17th September to 2nd October 2025 during Poshan Maah. The records include the most people registered for a health care platform in one month. It also includes the most people signed up for a breast cancer screening online in one week. Another record was the most people signed up for vital signs screening online in one week at the state level. The campaign focuses on improving the health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls and children. The achievement highlights India’s success in combining digital health innovation and community participation.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched an awareness drive called the ‘Garbage Dumping Festival’ to discourage littering. In this campaign, civic marshals dump collected garbage in front of houses of residents caught throwing waste on streets. The initiative began in Banashankari and aims to shame habitual litterers and promote clean neighbourhoods. On the first day, garbage was dumped at 218 houses, and ₹2.8 lakh in fines was collected. The campaign targets residents who dump waste on roadsides, footpaths, and vacant plots, despite daily waste collection by auto-tippers. The dumped waste is later cleared by civic workers after the awareness act.

Continuous floods at the Prakasam Barrage on the Krishna River have forced the closure of Bhavani Island and suspension of boat services, affecting tourism revenue. Bhavani Island, located near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, is one of India’s largest river islands. The Krishna River, 1,400 km long, originates near Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra and flows through Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh before entering the Bay of Bengal. Its basin covers about 2.59 lakh sq. km, the second largest in peninsular India after the Godavari.

Notes:
Maharashtra government has declared leprosy a notifiable disease, making it mandatory to report detected cases to health authorities. Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. It mainly affects the skin, nerves, eyes, and other organs. It is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) still seen in over 120 countries, with about 2 lakh new cases yearly. It was first declared notifiable in 2005 under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP).

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the LVM3-M5 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota at 5:35 pm. The rocket carried CMS-03, India’s heaviest communication satellite weighing 4,400 kilograms. It was the fifth operational flight of the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) launcher. CMS-03 was launched into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). The satellite will provide multi-band communication services across India and nearby ocean regions. It will enhance secure data, voice, and video connectivity for civilian and strategic applications. The mission highlights India’s capability in heavy satellite launches and strengthens its communication network.

On Kerala Piravi Day (November 1, 2025), Kerala declared eradication of extreme poverty, becoming India’s first state to achieve this milestone. The success came under the Extreme Poverty Eradication Programme (EPEP) launched in 2021 by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government. The Local Self-Government Department acted as the nodal agency, with 4 lakh trained personnel including officials, volunteers, and elected representatives. 59,000 families were confirmed as extremely poor after verification based on income, health, housing, and food security.

India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 was held from October 27–31, 2025, at NESCO Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, organized by the Indian Ports Association (IPA) and hosted by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW). The event was inaugurated by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister and was themed “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision.” The government announced a ₹2.2 lakh crore investment plan for 437 new vessel orders to enhance India’s global maritime competitiveness. The Maritime Excellence Achievers Awards 2025 recognized Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Gujarat, for sustainability and innovation, and Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Odisha, for the Best Exhibit Award.

The International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI) is observed by the United Nations (UN) on 2 November each year. The day aims to raise global awareness about the dangers of impunity for attacks on journalists and promote media freedom and journalist safety. The 2025 theme is “Chat GBV: Raising Awareness on AI-facilitated Gender-Based Violence against Women Journalists.” The focus is on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), including Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven deepfakes, gendered disinformation, and online harassment targeting women journalists.

Notes:
The Chavang Kut Festival, a post-harvest celebration of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo communities, is observed every year on November 1 across Manipur. The festival marks the end of the harvesting season and expresses thanksgiving to the almighty for a good harvest. Chavang Kut was declared a State Holiday in 1982 due to its cultural significance. The festival symbolizes gratitude, unity, and harmony between humans and nature.

World Jellyfish Day 2025 is celebrated annually on November 3rd to raise awareness about the importance of jellyfish in marine ecosystems. The day promotes understanding of their vital role, the threats they face, and their connection to ocean health and biodiversity. Jellyfish are a crucial part of the food web, serving as both predators and prey. Massive blooms can also serve as a warning sign for the health of the ocean due to warming waters and pollution.
