Oman Airports has become the world’s first airport operator to deploy Wi-Fi 7 across all its airports. The upgrade was implemented in partnership with Huawei, marking a major leap in airport digital infrastructure. Wi-Fi 7 provides much faster speeds, stronger security, and highly reliable connectivity even during peak traffic. The initiative enhances passenger comfort by enabling smooth streaming, quick downloads, and seamless online services from check-in to boarding. It also boosts operational efficiency with faster, secure systems supporting airport staff and operations. This deployment aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on smart infrastructure, global-standard services, and advanced technology adoption.

India’s Environment Minister recently announced that India will host a Global Big Cats Summit 2026 in New Delhi, calling for stronger global cooperation. The announcement was made at the COP30 high-level ministerial segment on the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA). India is home to major big cats like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Indian Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Clouded Leopard. India has doubled its tiger population ahead of schedule and increased its Asiatic lion numbers. India built comprehensive wildlife databases and strengthened protected areas and corridors with community participation.

In the latest Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2026, released by Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and Climate Action Network at UN COP30, India slipped 13 places to 23rd position with a score of 61.31. India fell from a high to a medium performer due to no coal-exit deadline and continued coal block auctions. CCPI notes medium performance in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, Climate Policy and Energy Use, and low in Renewable Energy. India shows strong intent with 50% non-fossil capacity achieved early, rising renewable auctions and work on green finance taxonomy and a national carbon market.

Kolkata will host the 8th Chair Poetry Evenings – International Poetry Festival from 28–30 November 2025. Poets from 13 countries will present works in 16 languages, highlighting global linguistic diversity. Events will be held at Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, Cloud Tavern (Samilton Hotel), and the signature “Poetry on the Cruise” on the Hooghly River. Two translated titles — Buried History of Poverty and Lost and Recovered Light — will be launched.

The world observed the first World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day on 17 November 2025, endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The global strategy links to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 3, 5, and 10 and aims to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem. WHO targets include 90% Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination, 70% screening, and 90% treatment to reduce incidence to below 4 cases per 1,00,000 women-years. Cervical cancer burden is highest in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) due to limited access. India plans HPV vaccine rollout, strengthens screening under the National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases, and expands oncology care.

The Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ISAM) is hosting its 64th annual conference at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bengaluru, on November 20-21. The conference theme is “Innovations in Aerospace Medicine: Infinite Possibilities,” emphasizing safety and performance of aviators. ISAM, established in 1952, is India’s only registered society dedicated to aerospace medicine for military, civil aviation, and spaceflight programs.

India’s Under-19 cricket team will start their 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign against the United States on January 15 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The tournament will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6 with 16 teams playing 41 matches. India is placed in Group A with the USA, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, playing all group matches at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

The United States has officially designated Saudi Arabia as a Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) after the meeting between Donald Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) is a special strategic status that gives defence partners military, financial and technological benefits but does not provide NATO-style security guarantees. The MNNA category was created under U.S. law in the 1980s to expand America’s alliance network beyond NATO countries. The main aim of MNNA status is to boost defence cooperation, access to advanced weapons, joint military training and security coordination. The move strengthens U.S. strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, especially given the region’s geopolitical importance.

Curacao has created history by qualifying for the 2026 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup, becoming the smallest nation ever to reach the tournament with a population of about 1.56 lakh. Curacao is an island country in the southern Caribbean Sea, located 60 km north of Venezuela, and is a territorial country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It consists of the islands of Curacao and Klein Curacao, spread over 171 square miles with its capital at Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Curacao follows a constitutional monarchy with the Dutch monarch as head of state and a prime minister as head of government.

Turkiye will host the COP31 (Conference of the Parties 31) UN climate summit in Antalya next year, after an agreement with Australia ended a long dispute over the venue. Australia will now lead pre-COP negotiations with Pacific nations for the 2026 UN climate meeting, while Turkiye will assume the presidency of COP31. The announcement comes as COP30 in Belem, Brazil is closing, with Australia earlier pushing to host COP31 as a Pacific COP for climate-vulnerable island nations. Turkiye insisted on hosting COP31 to represent emerging economies and encourage solidarity between rich and poor countries on climate action.
