The Chief of the Air Staff recently inaugurated the Mudh-Nyoma airbase in Ladakh by landing a C-130J aircraft there. Mudh-Nyoma is an Indian Air Force (IAF) base in southeastern Ladakh at 13,700 feet. It is just 23 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. It is now the fourth IAF base in Ladakh, India’s highest airfield, and the world’s fifth highest. It lies near the southern bank of Pangong Tso and earlier had a mud landing strip. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) began upgrading it in September 2023.

United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Operation Southern Spear, a major military campaign in the Caribbean and South America. The operation targets “narco-terrorists” and is led by Joint Task Force Southern Spear and US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). Its objectives are to defend the US homeland, remove narco-terrorists from the region, and disrupt drug trafficking networks supplying cocaine to the US.

Japan’s Sakurajima volcano recently erupted several times, sending ash up to 4.4 kilometres high. It is located on the southern tip of Kyushu Island near Kagoshima city in Japan. It is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes with frequent eruptions. Sakurajima is a stratovolcano made of layered lava and ash on a convergent plate boundary. It is an andesitic volcano with high gas content and very viscous magma at the edge of the Aira Caldera

Goa Police has become the first state police in India to achieve 100% response rate in cyber fraud calls. The cyber fraud call centre received over 5,000 calls, registering 581 complaints. Around 1,500 missed calls were also successfully responded to, ensuring full accessibility. The 1930 cloud-based call centre was launched last month and inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Nine police personnel from the cyber police station attend calls 24/7. The system provides complainants’ details (mobile number, name, date, time) to facilitate follow-up. The initiative significantly improves accessibility and efficiency in handling cyber fraud complaints.

In November 2025, Dinesh Bhatia, Ambassador of India to Brazil, inaugurated the 3rd International Ayurveda Conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The conference was jointly organized by Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) and Conayur Sao Paulo (Conselho Nacional de Ayurveda). The conference was held from 14–15 November 2025. It marked 40 years of Ayurveda practice in Brazil. Brazil is the first South American country to officially recognize Ayurveda. The 2025 theme was “Diversity and Inclusion in Ayurveda: Caring for Everybody and Every Being”. The event was held under the patronage of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

India is set to strengthen counter-drone warfare as the Army and Indian Air Force plan to procure 16 indigenous Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction System (Mark-2) units. The Mark-2 is developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), led by its lab CHESS – Centre for High Energy Systems & Sciences with the Armed Forces. It detects, tracks and neutralises hostile drones using sensors, jammers and high-energy laser weapons.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) recently launched YUVA AI for ALL under the IndiaAI Mission, giving a big push to AI awareness in India. It is a free 4.5-hour self-paced course introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to students, professionals, and all curious learners. The course uses simple language and Indian real-life examples and is available on FutureSkills Prime, iGOT Karmayogi, and major ed-tech platforms. Learners receive an official Government of India certificate after completion.

India’s Environment Minister recently announced that India will host a Global Big Cats Summit 2026 in New Delhi, calling for stronger global cooperation. The announcement was made at the COP30 high-level ministerial segment on the International Big Cats Alliance (IBCA). India is home to major big cats like the Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Lion, Indian Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Clouded Leopard. India has doubled its tiger population ahead of schedule and increased its Asiatic lion numbers. India built comprehensive wildlife databases and strengthened protected areas and corridors with community participation.

Kolkata will host the 8th Chair Poetry Evenings – International Poetry Festival from 28–30 November 2025. Poets from 13 countries will present works in 16 languages, highlighting global linguistic diversity. Events will be held at Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, Cloud Tavern (Samilton Hotel), and the signature “Poetry on the Cruise” on the Hooghly River. Two translated titles — Buried History of Poverty and Lost and Recovered Light — will be launched.

Scientists recently spotted the rare ginkgo-toothed beaked whales (Mesoplodon ginkgodens) for the first time in the wild near Baja California, Mexico. This species is one of 24 beaked whale species, the second most diverse cetacean group after dolphins. It lives in tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It has a robust body, small pointed flippers and two unique ginkgo-shaped teeth on the lower jaw. These whales are the deepest-diving mammals, surfacing only briefly and staying far from coastlines.
