World Diabetes Day is observed every year on November 14 and is led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to raise awareness about diabetes. Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases affecting millions worldwide. The IDF predicts that by 2050, one in eight adults globally will be living with diabetes, highlighting the urgent need for action. Healthy lifestyle choices play a key role in reducing high blood sugar and managing diabetes effectively.

Odisha will host the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5 to 7, 2025. The summit supports Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability, cooperative federalism, and Net Zero 2070. Energy ministers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan will join global experts and think-tanks. The event is organised with the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) and Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K). The theme is “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation.”

The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has developed a new generation of Man-portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs). MP-AUVs are designed for mine countermeasure missions with Side Scan Sonar and underwater cameras as primary payloads for real-time detection and classification of Mine-Like Objects (MLOs). Deep learning-based target recognition algorithms enable autonomous classification, reducing operator workload and mission time. The system includes robust underwater acoustic communication for inter-AUV data exchange and improved situational awareness.

Recently, Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) received a licence to explore and mine a tungsten block in Andhra Pradesh. Tungsten is a chemical element with the symbol W and atomic number 74. It is a naturally occurring transition metal found in minerals like wolframite and scheelite, not as a pure metal. It has the highest melting point of all metals at 3410 °C and the lowest vapor pressure at that temperature. It also has the highest tensile strength above 1650 °C and remains solid at room temperature.

The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) showed overall unemployment for 15+ years stayed at 5.2% in October 2025. Urban unemployment rose to a three-month high of 7%, while rural unemployment dipped from 4.6% to 4.4%. Female unemployment fell slightly to 5.4%, driven by a rural decline from 4.3% to 4%. Male unemployment stayed stable at 5.1%, with rural dip offset by urban rise to 6.1%. Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) reached a six-month high of 55.4%, rising from 54.2% in June. Female workforce participation (LFPR 34.2%) and rural worker growth drove the increase in Worker Population Ratio (WPR 52.5%).

World Toilet Day is observed every year on 19 November to raise awareness about the global sanitation crisis. It highlights the importance of safe and accessible toilets for public health, dignity, and environmental protection. The day was inspired by Singaporean philanthropist Jack Sim, who founded the NGO World Toilet Organisation (WTO) on 19 November. The United Nations (UN) recognised water and sanitation as human rights in 2010 and officially declared World Toilet Day on 14 July 2013. The theme for World Toilet Day 2025 is ‘Sanitation in a Changing World,’ focusing on future-ready sanitation systems.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) and BAE Systems (British Aerospace Engineering Systems) recently won an Indian Army contract to supply BvS10 Sindhu, a specialised all-terrain armoured vehicle. BvS10 Sindhu is an upgraded India-specific version of the BvS10 (Beowulf Vehicle System 10) used by Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. It is also ordered by the German Army and chosen for the Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) programme of the United States Army. It has two connected vehicle sections that easily cross snow, marsh, mountains, and rough terrain.

A wild tiger has returned to Gujarat after decades, establishing a permanent presence in Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary. Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Gujarat on the Gujarat–Madhya Pradesh border and was declared a sanctuary in March 1982. It is also called Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary because it has the highest sloth bear population in Gujarat. The sanctuary forms the catchment of the Panam River in Central Gujarat.

The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, launched the nationwide campaign ‘Hamara Shauchalaya, Hamara Bhavishya’ (Our Toilet, Our Future) on World Toilet Day 2025. The campaign focuses on the importance, maintenance, repair, and aesthetic upliftment of rural toilets, including Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) and Individual Household Latrines (IHHLs). It aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) objectives, promoting Open Defecation Free (ODF) sustainability and ODF Plus Model villages.

NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) and IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) recently organized the first Earth Summit 2025-26 in Hyderabad on 20–21 November with the theme Empowering Rural Innovation for Global Change. The second edition is scheduled for Gandhinagar on 5–6 December 2025, and the third for New Delhi in February 2026. The summit served as a global platform to drive policy outcomes, investments, and collaborations for rural transformation.
