Sentinel-6B was recently launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, marking a major step in global ocean monitoring. It is a joint mission of NASA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and European Space Agency (ESA). It will track rising sea levels and their impacts, continuing the work of Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich launched in 2020. It orbits Earth at 7.2 km per second, completing one revolution in 112 minutes. It will measure sea levels with accuracy up to one inch, covering over 90% of oceans. Its mission life is 5.5 years. It carries six science instruments and uses fixed plus deployable solar panels in a non-Sun-synchronous orbit

The Rajasthan High Court recently sought a detailed conservation plan from the state government due to rising ecological threats to Gadisar Lake in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Gadisar Lake is a 14th-century artificial reservoir originally built by Raja Rawal Jaisal and later renovated by Maharawal Gadsi Singh, giving it its present name. It historically served as Jaisalmer’s main water source through an efficient rainwater harvesting system in the desert. Encroachment, urban pressure, siltation and pollution have reduced its catchment area and damaged ecological balance. The lake supports local biodiversity and migratory birds, making it a vital urban-wetland ecosystem.

The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry recently launched the Trade Intelligence and Analytics (TIA) Portal in New Delhi to strengthen data-driven trade decisions. It is a one-stop platform developed by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, that integrates multiple global and national trade databases. The portal offers 270+ interactive visualisations across 28 dashboards with real-time insights on India’s trade, global markets, commodities and sectors. The portal improves accessibility and usability of all trade data in one place.

World Toilet Day is observed every year on 19 November to raise awareness about the global sanitation crisis. It highlights the importance of safe and accessible toilets for public health, dignity, and environmental protection. The day was inspired by Singaporean philanthropist Jack Sim, who founded the NGO World Toilet Organisation (WTO) on 19 November. The United Nations (UN) recognised water and sanitation as human rights in 2010 and officially declared World Toilet Day on 14 July 2013. The theme for World Toilet Day 2025 is ‘Sanitation in a Changing World,’ focusing on future-ready sanitation systems.

World Fisheries Day 2025 is celebrated by Department of Fisheries on 21st November with the theme “India’s Blue Transformation: Strengthening Value Addition in Seafood Exports.” On the eve of the day, the government announced that total fish production for 2025–26 is expected to cross 11 lakh metric tonnes. Gujarat is a leading state in fisheries, ranking second in marine fish production and sixth in total fish production in India. In 2024–25, Gujarat produced 10.42 lakh metric tonnes of fish, including 7.64 lakh metric tonnes of marine fish and 2.78 lakh metric tonnes of inland fish. There is high international demand for Gujarat’s frozen shrimp, ribbon fish, cuttlefish, and squid in China, Europe, America, and Japan.

World Television Day is observed every year on 21 November, based on a 1996 United Nations General Assembly Resolution. The day recognises television as a vital medium for informing, educating, shaping public opinion and promoting global understanding. In India, the observance is led by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) along with Prasar Bharati, the national public broadcaster. Doordarshan and All India Radio conduct special programmes to highlight television’s role in public service communication and national integration. India has over 230 million television households reaching nearly 900 million viewers, showing TV’s massive influence in awareness creation and participatory governance.

Nepal has extended the survey license deadline for the West Seti Hydropower Project and allowed a direct agreement for another project by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) to support Indian power companies in developing hydropower in the Himalayan region. West Seti Hydropower Project is planned as a 750 Megawatt hydroelectric storage project on the Seti River, a tributary of the Karnali River in Nepal. It is a storage-based project, not a run-of-river project, allowing water to be stored during monsoon and electricity to be generated year-round. The project is being developed by National Hydro Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) of India under a Public-Private Partnership model.

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)–Larsen & Toubro (L&T) consortium has indigenously built India’s first private Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). The PSLV is scheduled to launch the Oceansat satellite early next year. India’s Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) signed a 2022 contract with the HAL–L&T consortium for end-to-end production of five PSLV-XL rockets. This move shifts PSLV manufacturing from ISRO to industry partners while ISRO focuses on new missions and research. The consortium has faced production challenges, resolved with ISRO’s support. HAL also received technology for the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) to fully own and operate its production.

Recently, the Sangai Festival in Manipur began amid protests by internally displaced persons (IDPs) and NGOs, which affected public attendance. The festival is celebrated annually in Manipur. It is named after the Sangai, the state animal of Manipur. The festival aims to showcase Manipur’s rich cultural heritage and indigenous traditions. It highlights music, dance and native art forms of various Manipuri tribes and communities. The classical dance form ‘Ras Leela’ is the main attraction of the festival. The theme for 2025 is “Where blossoms breathe harmony.”

India recently won the inaugural T20 Blind Women’s World Cup 2025 by defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final at the P Sara Oval, Colombo. Nepal scored 114/5, and India successfully chased 117/3 in just 12 overs, showing complete dominance with Nepal hitting only one boundary. Phula Saren was the top scorer for India with 44 not out, guiding the team to victory. India entered the final after defeating Australia in the first semifinal, while Nepal beat Pakistan in the second semifinal.
