Notes:
The first ever consignment of GI-tagged carpets of Jammu and Kashmir were exported to Germany from New Delhi.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has started a Geographical Indication (GI) registry for the Kashmiri carpet with a quick response (QR) code. It will certify genuineness of hand-knotted carpets with information on manufacturer, weaver, raw material used.

Notes:
The Gujarat government unveiled Sports Policy 2022-27, which seeks to set up four new High Performance Centre (HPC) with training facilities of international standards.
Of the four new HPCs, one will be specifically for para-athletes. It also seeks to set up a Sports Goods manufacturing cluster in the state. Private sector participation will be encouraged in setting up HPCs and eight centres of excellence.

The Unique Land Parcel Identification Number (ULPIN) was recently launched for Assam. It was conceptualized under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme of Department of Land Resources.
Under the initiative, a 14-digit alpha numeric geo-spatial unique identification number is issued. It is seen as ‘Bhu-AADHAR’ for every land parcel of the State. The State aims to integrate all processes around land records database, under the Mission Basundhara.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways achieved a milestone when the MV Ram Prasad Bismil became the longest vessel ever to sail on Brahmaputra.
The 90 meters long vessel is 26 meters wide, loaded with a draft of 2.1 meters. It successfully completed the pilot run of heavy cargo movement from Haldia Dock in Kolkata after it anchored at Pandu port  in Guwahati.

National Vaccination Day is observed annually on 16 March across India. The occasion is celebrated to raise awareness about importance of vaccination.
India administered its first dose of oral vaccine against Polio on this day in 1995. It marked the launch of National Immunization Day (NID), also known as National Vaccination Day and Pulse Polio Immunisation programme.

Russia is alleged to have a role in the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that crashed in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region in 2014, when Crimea was annexed by Russian forces.
Recently, amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Australia and the Netherlands are set to launch a new legal case against Russia, regarding the MH17 Crash Case.

The European Union proposed the world’s first Carbon Tariff on imports of steel, cement, fertilisers, aluminium and electricity, to protect European industry.
European Union countries have recently backed the association plan to impose a world-first carbon dioxide emissions tariff on imports of polluting goods.

Notes:
Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a unit of Coal India, has become the largest coal-producing company in the country.
The company announced that it has crossed 157 million tonnes in coal production in the financial year 2021-22. The company claimed that its 7.62 lakh tonne production of dry fuel is the highest production in a day during the current financial year.

Notes:
The United States Senate unanimously passed a law making daylight saving time (DST) permanent. It has scrapped the biannual practice of putting clocks forward and back coinciding with the arrival and departure of winter.
After it is signed into a law, the practice of turning clocks back by an hour to standard time every November will stop and DST (which starts in March) will be in effect all year round.

World Sleep Day is observed on the Friday before the March equinox every year to highlight the importance of quality sleep on body and mind. This year, the World Sleep Day falls on March 18.
‘Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World’ is the theme for World Sleep Day this year. World Sleep Day is organised by the World Sleep Society and was first observed in 2008.
