The Supreme Court appointed its ex-judge AK Sikri as chairperson of the High Powered Committee (HPC), which would consider the impact of the Chardham project.
Professor Ravi Chopra resigned as Chairperson of the committee. Sikri has already been appointed by the court as chairperson of the oversight committee to look after environmental concerns and other issues related to the Chardham project.

Notes:
Capital Employer Inititative is a scheme under Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). It is a nation-wide placement-linked skill training program funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
‘Captive Employer’ initiative assures post-training placement of candidates for a minimum of six months with a minimum CTC of Rs 10,000.

The Hungarian parliament has elected Katalin Novak as the country’s first-ever female president. Katalin Novak most recently served as a Minister for Family Policy.
Novak will succeed Janos Ader of the Fidesz party who has held the position since 2012.

The Gujarat government unveiled Sports Policy 2022-27, which seeks to set up four new High Performance Centre (HPC) with training facilities of international standards.
Of the four new HPCs, one will be specifically for para-athletes. It also seeks to set up a Sports Goods manufacturing cluster in the state. Private sector participation will be encouraged in setting up HPCs and eight centres of excellence.

The state government of Maharashtra has announced a five-pronged plan named “Panchasutri”, covering agriculture, health, human resources, transport and industry.
The programme has an outlay of Rs. 1.15 lakh crore and Rs 4 lakh crore will be provided for this programme in the next three years, according to the state Budget, 2022-23.

As per the Registrar General of India’s Special Bulletin, India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has dropped by 10 points, from 113 in 2016-18 to 103 in 2017-19.
The ratio witnessed an 8.8 % decline. MMR has gradually decreased in the country, falling from 130 in 2014-2016 to 122 in 2015-17, 113 in 2016-18, and 103 in 2017-19.

Karnataka Government implements the ‘Jyothi Sanjeevini Scheme’. It is a cashless scheme meant for serious diseases/illnesses extended to serving Government employees and their family members.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai recently assured the Legislative Council that the Government would review if State Government pensioners could be brought under the Jyothi Sanjeevini scheme.

As per a study conducted by International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Bangladesh tops the list in South Asia in terms of women on board of listed companies.
There was an increase in the percentage of women who are independent directors on listed companies from 5 percent in 2020 to six percent.

Kerala is set to become the first State in the country to introduce carbon-neutral farming methods in selected locations.
The state government has allocated Rs 6 crore in the 2022-23 Budget for the project. In the first phase, carbon-neutral farming will be implemented in 13 farms. The state will convert the State Seed Farm at Aluva into a carbon-neutral farm. In the second phase, model carbon-neutral farms will be developed in all 140 Assembly constituencies.

The amendments to the ‘Limited Liability Partnership’ 2008 will take effect from April 1. The Amendment has introduced the concept of ‘Small Limited Liability Partnership’.
The LLPs are those with a previous year turnover of up to ₹40 lakh or any prescribed amount which shall not exceed ₹50 crore. The Government has the powers to designate certain LLPs as ‘start-up LLPs’.
