Dubai has enacted its first law governing virtual assets and also formed an independent regulator to regulate the crypto-currency sector.
UAE is a federation of seven emirates and Dubai is the financial powerhouse of the region. The ‘Dubai Virtual Asset Regulation Law’ seeks to establish Dubai and the UAE as regional and global destinations for the virtual asset industry.

The Government of India, the Government of West Bengal, and the World Bank signed a USD 125 million IBRD loan to support efforts to protect poor and vulnerable groups in the state of West Bengal.
West Bengal runs over 400 programs that provide social assistance, care services, and jobs. Most of these services are offered through a platform called ‘Jai Bangla’.

The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers released the draft ‘National Medical Devices Policy 2022’.
At present, nearly 80% of the medical devices used in the country are imported. The policy aims to place India as one among the five global manufacturing hubs in terms of value and technology for medical devices.

‘Halari’ is a breed of Donkeys native to the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The population of the breed is fast declining in the country.
Union Minister Parsottam Rupala will preside over a meeting of Maldharis (or traditional herdsmen) for the conservation of Halari donkeys. An animal fair with the best of Halari donkeys, goats of Kahmi and Bhagri breeds, will also be organised.

Union Home Ministry oversees the functioning of Office of Registrar General of India, which conducts Census.
The Government has recently notified certain amendments to Census rules to allow online self-enumeration in the upcoming Census and National Population Register (NPR).

The Gujarat government unveiled Sports Policy 2022-27, which seeks to set up four new High Performance Centre (HPC) with training facilities of international standards.
Of the four new HPCs, one will be specifically for para-athletes. It also seeks to set up a Sports Goods manufacturing cluster in the state. Private sector participation will be encouraged in setting up HPCs and eight centres of excellence.

The ‘FIFA World Cup 2022’ is scheduled to take part in Qatar. The 32-nation tournament will commence at the Al Bayt Stadium from November 2022.
The World Cup is being held in Asia for the second time since 2022, when it was jointly-hosted by South Korea and Japan. Fifteen countries, including defending champion France and former champions Brazil, Germany and Spain have sealed their spot while the qualification rounds for the remaining 17 spots start from March 17.

Article 25 provides the fundamental right of ‘Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion’ to all persons.
The High Court of Karnataka dismissed petitions filed by a group of Muslim girls seeking permission to wear hijab in classrooms. The government can interfere on essential religious practices on three grounds under Article 25(1): public order, morality or health.

The European Union proposed the world’s first Carbon Tariff on imports of steel, cement, fertilisers, aluminium and electricity, to protect European industry.
European Union countries have recently backed the association plan to impose a world-first carbon dioxide emissions tariff on imports of polluting goods.

The Dishaank application is implemented by Karnataka for digitisation of all land records (under the Bhoomi project).
The mobile application has been developed under the Karnataka Geographical Information System program of the Karnataka State Remote Sensing Applications Center (KSRSAC). This is expected to bring in transparency and reduce land-related disputes.
