Recently, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced a three-day international conference from August 20 to 22, 2025, in Greater Noida to focus on deciphering the Indus Valley script. The event, titled ‘Decipherment of the Indus Script: Current Status and the Way Forward’, will include experts from India and abroad working on Harappan civilisation and script. This comes after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin offered a $1 million prize for anyone who successfully deciphers the Indus script. ASI may also introduce fellowships for scholars dedicated to this research.

Recently, scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, developed a next-generation device that produces green hydrogen using only solar energy. Green hydrogen is a clean fuel that can help decarbonize industries, power vehicles, and store renewable energy, but producing it affordably at scale has been difficult. The CeNS device splits water molecules using earth-abundant materials without fossil fuels or expensive resources, making it sustainable and scalable.

Recently, the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championship 2025 was held in Vung Tau, Vietnam, from June 18 to 21, where Indian wrestlers delivered an outstanding performance. On the final day, India won six medals in men’s freestyle, with five golds secured by Nikhil, Sujeet, Jaideep, Chander Mohan, and Sachin. Indian women wrestlers also won the team title by securing medals in all 10 categories, including four gold and five silver. Gold medalists included Priyanshi Prajapat (50 kg), Reena (55 kg), Shrishti (68 kg), and Priya (76 kg).

Government of India has recently launched the NAVYA initiative to skill adolescent girls under the Viksit Bharat@2047 Vision. NAVYA stands for Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent. It is a joint pilot initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The programme targets girls aged 16–18 years who have passed at least Class 10 and aims to train them in non-traditional job roles.

The Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025 by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) shows a 0.36 per cent drop in global peacefulness due to rising geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. This marks the worst global peace level deterioration since World War II. India ranks 115th with a GPI score of 2.229, improving by 0.58 per cent from last year. India’s ranking has improved steadily from 141 in 2019 to 115 in 2025. India showed improvement in nine peace indicators, while nine remained the same and three worsened. Iceland remains the most peaceful country since 2008.

Recently, the National Institute of Immunohaematology developed an affordable and simple point-of-care test kit in India for early diagnosis of genetic bleeding disorders like Haemophilia A and Von Willebrand Disease. Haemophilia A is a hereditary bleeding disorder where blood does not clot properly due to low levels of Factor VIII, a key clotting protein.
Normally, when bleeding occurs, a process called the coagulation cascade activates clotting factors to stop the bleeding. If one or more of these clotting factors are missing or not working properly, it leads to excessive bleeding.

Recently, Dwarka Expressway became the first road in India to be equipped with an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). The project is being implemented by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL). Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is a set of smart technologies designed to improve traffic efficiency, safety, and reliability on roads.

Recently, from 24 to 25 June 2025, the Netherlands hosted the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit at the World Forum in The Hague. NATO allies agreed on a historic decision to invest 5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in defence, replacing the earlier 2% benchmark. The new commitment includes 3.5% of GDP for core defence needs and 1.5% for infrastructure and defence-related industries. The next NATO Summit is scheduled to be held in Türkiye in 2026.

National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on 29 June. Statistics Day marks the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, a pioneer in statistics and economic planning. It aims to spread awareness among youth about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning for national development. The 2025 theme is “75 Years of National Sample Survey” celebrating its role in evidence-based governance.

Recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) decided to expand its Mobile Biosafety Level-3 (MBSL-3) laboratory network to boost India’s outbreak response and public health. The Mobile BSL-3 lab is also called Rapid Action Mobile BSL-3 Advanced Augmented Network (RAMBAAN). It is an advanced “lab on wheels” developed under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission. It was first used during the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala in 2023.
