Thousands of devotees have gathered in Assam for the Ambubachi Mela 2025 at the Kamakhya Temple, one of the biggest religious events in Northeast India. The Ambubachi festival is held every June during the monsoon season at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and is a key centre of Tantrik Shaktism, a Hindu spiritual tradition.

Researchers have recently introduced a new term called “Thirstwaves” to describe long periods of high atmospheric thirst. A Thirstwave occurs when the daily evaporative demand stays above the historical 90th percentile for at least three consecutive days. Evaporative demand means how thirsty the atmosphere is or how much water it wants to absorb from the ground or plants. It is influenced by temperature, wind speed, humidity, and sunshine. Understanding thirstwaves can help farmers manage water more efficiently and boost crop production. This concept is important for improving climate resilience in agriculture and water planning.

The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly declared 24 June as the International Day of Women in Diplomacy. In 2025, this day is observed with the theme “Eliminating structural barriers to women’s leadership in diplomacy.” The theme highlights the need for institutional reforms to support women in decision-making roles. Women diplomats today play a key role in connecting national policies with international diplomacy to promote equality, peace, and democratic values.

Recently, the Indian Conservation Conference (ICCON) 2025 began on 25 June 2025 at the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, Uttarakhand, under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). ICCON was first launched in 2023 during the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger and the announcement of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA). ICCON 2025 features 17 themes, oral and speed talks, poster sessions, spotlight lectures, and 10 capacity-building workshops. A major highlight is TechBridge, a unique wildlife technology forum showcasing new tools for field use.

Recently, the Prime Minister launched the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’ in Odisha to honour the legacy of Odia icons by transforming their birthplaces into cultural heritage sites. The initiative aims to establish memorials that include museums, interpretation centres, statues, and libraries. It will help preserve Odisha’s rich cultural history while promoting cultural tourism across the state.

Recently, Dwarka Expressway became the first road in India to be equipped with an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). The project is being implemented by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL). Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is a set of smart technologies designed to improve traffic efficiency, safety, and reliability on roads.

Recently, it was announced that India’s first Quantum Computing Valley will be launched in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh by January 2026. The park aims to employ lakhs of professionals to support research, innovation, and industrial growth. It will be open for use by states, government bodies, and institutions all over India. The goal is to make sure quantum technology helps the entire society. This project is aligned with the National Quantum Mission (NQM). It focuses on boosting productivity and creating wealth through quantum technologies.

Recently, a tigress and her four cubs were found dead in Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary. Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. It is connected to Biligiri Ranganatha Temple Tiger Reserve, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. The forests here are mainly dry deciduous, with some moist deciduous, semi-evergreen, evergreen and shola forests at different heights.

Recently, the Bihar Cabinet approved several measures to boost village infrastructure, social pensions, women’s entrepreneurship, subsidised meals, and local governance. The Cabinet sanctioned the start of Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi units at block, sub-divisional, and district headquarters to provide affordable meals. JEEViKA, meaning Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project, supports rural poor for social and economic empowerment and is managed by Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society under the Department of Rural Development.

Recently, a study by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) confirmed the return of the dhole, or Asiatic wild dog (Cuon alpinus), to Assam’s Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Landscape (KKAL). This endangered canid was once thought to be extinct in the area and had its last northeast India sighting in Nagaland in 2011. Dholes need large, undisturbed forests, and their return highlights the importance of conserving wildlife corridors like KKAL. Their global range has shrunk due to habitat loss, prey decline, and retaliatory killings.
