Recently, Arunachal Pradesh declared the years 2025–2035 as the Decade of Hydro Power to harness its hydropower potential of 58,000 megawatts (MW). The government will promote mega, large, and small hydroelectric projects and build a strong policy and regulatory framework. About 19 gigawatts (GW) of hydropower projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore are under development, with expected annual revenue of ₹4,525 crore from 2035 through free power share.

Recently, a rare sighting of a Himalayan brown bear with its family in Nelong and Jadung Valleys created excitement in Gangotri National Park, Uttarakhand. The Himalayan brown bear is the largest mammal in the high-altitude Himalayas and one of the oldest brown bear lineages. In India, it is found in fragmented alpine habitats of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Its conservation status is Critically Endangered under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

Recently, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) announced plans to set up its first overseas nano fertiliser plant in Brazil. IFFCO had earlier launched the world’s first Nano Liquid Urea in 2021 and Nano Di-Ammonium Phosphate (Nano-DAP) in 2023. Nano fertilizers are plant nutrients enclosed in nanomaterials that are 100 nanometres or smaller in size. These fertilizers allow controlled release and slow diffusion of nutrients into the soil.

The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has already discovered over 2,100 new asteroids before officially starting operations. Vera C. Rubin Observatory is located in Chile. It is designed to scan the night sky repeatedly and is expected to find millions of unknown space objects. The observatory can help track dangerous asteroids that may collide with Earth, enhancing planetary defense. Some asteroids found have comet-like tails, and it might even spot interstellar objects from outside our solar system. It may also discover Planet Nine, a mystery planet far beyond known planets.

Recently, Candida tropicalis, a major fungal pathogen in India and globally, was found using chromosome changes to resist common antifungal drugs like fluconazole and voriconazole. Candida tropicalis is a yeast species from the Candida genus and causes serious infections with high mortality rates. It lives in tropical and subtropical marine environments like seawater, marine plants, and fish intestines. It is also found in human guts, fruit surfaces, soil, and various foods. It mainly affects people with weak immune systems or those with neutropenia, a condition of low neutrophil white blood cells.

Recently, Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra won the Javelin Throw title at the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 meet held in the Czech Republic. The 27-year-old two-time Olympic medallist secured the gold medal with a best throw of 85.29 metres. Douw Smit from South Africa finished second with 84.12 metres, and Anderson Peters from Grenada came third with 83.63 metres. This was Neeraj’s second straight victory after winning the Paris Diamond League, where he crossed 90 metres for the first time with a throw of 90.23 metres.

Recently, Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced that Rajasthan will host the fifth edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) in November 2025. The event will be jointly organised by Poornima University and Rajasthan University in Jaipur. It is a major initiative under the Khelo India programme, launched in 2020 to promote sports at the university level. The previous KIUG 2024 was held across seven northeastern states and saw 4,500 athletes compete, with 770 medals awarded.

Recently, Dwarka Expressway became the first road in India to be equipped with an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). The project is being implemented by Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL). Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is a set of smart technologies designed to improve traffic efficiency, safety, and reliability on roads.

Recently, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, with the Maharashtra government, Pawan Hans and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, known as FICCI, held the 7th Helicopter and Small Aircraft Summit in Pune, Maharashtra. The summit promoted helicopters and small aircraft as vital for regional air connectivity, economic growth, and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. A dedicated Helicopter Directorate under Directorate General of Civil Aviation, known as DGCA, was announced to improve oversight and certification. Digital initiatives like the Heli Sewa Portal were praised for enhancing transparency.

Recently, India rejected a “supplemental award” issued by a Court of Arbitration on the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects, calling it illegal and against the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) 1960. The Court of Arbitration is an ad-hoc international dispute resolution body under Annexure G of the Indus Waters Treaty, 1960, used when bilateral talks fail. The Ratle Hydroelectric Project is run-of-the-river project located on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. India maintains its stand that the award violates treaty principles and cannot be accepted under the current agreement.
