Notes:
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) released its 2025 State of World Population (SOWP) Report titled ‘The Real Fertility Crisis’. It highlights that one in three adult Indians face unintended pregnancies. It also states that 30% of Indians experience unfulfilled desires to have more or fewer children. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was created to support population and reproductive health programmes. Its mission is to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, childbirth is safe, and youth potential is fulfilled.

The Indian Army has arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to take part in the Multinational Military Exercise KHAAN QUEST. It is scheduled to take place from 14th to 28th June 2025 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia . This is the 22nd edition of the exercise, which started as a bilateral event between the United States of America (USA) and Mongolian Armed Forces in 2003 and became a multinational peacekeeping drill in 2006. The Indian Army team includes 40 personnel, mainly from a Battalion of the KUMAON Regiment, along with one woman officer and two women soldiers.

India’s first underwater museum and artificial coral reef will be created around the decommissioned warship Indian Naval Ship (INS) Guldar near Nivati Rocks in Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra. The project was virtually inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra with strong support from the central government. It aims to promote marine conservation and tourism, offering activities like scuba diving and submarine tours in the future. INS Guldar, a 1,120-ton ship decommissioned in January 2024, has been handed over to Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

A drift and oil spill advisory was recently issued by Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) after a fire broke out on a container ship off the Kerala coast. INCOIS also activated its Search and Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT) to monitor the possible drift of containers and debris. SARAT was developed by Earth System Science Organization (ESSO)-INCOIS under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. It was created as part of the Make in India program to support quick search and rescue of people or vessels in distress at sea.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will soon launch the CROPIC initiative. CROPIC stands for Collection of Real Time Observations & Photo of Crops. It is launched under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). The initiative uses artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision to monitor crop health and stress. It aims to automate crop loss assessment and ensure faster payment of insurance claims to farmers.

Notes:
India ranked 131 out of 148 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), slipping two places from 129 in 2024. The Global Gender Gap Index measures gender parity in Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. India scored 64.1% in overall gender parity, among the lowest in South Asia.

Exercise “Tiger Claw” was the first independent Special Forces exercise between the Indian Air Force (IAF) and United States Air Force (USAF). It was conducted from 26 May to 10 June 2025 across North India, ending at the Garud Regimental Training Centre (GRTC) in Chandinagar, Uttar Pradesh. The aim was to strengthen the partnership between both Air Forces and improve interoperability in special operations. The exercise included joint training, mutual exchange of best practices, and development of operational coordination.

The Government of Assam presented the Srimanta Sankardeva Award to Dr. Sonal Mansingh, a renowned classical dancer and cultural icon. The award was conferred by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati. It honors the legacy of 15th-century saint-reformer Srimanta Sankardeva, who promoted unity, harmony, and ecological balance. Dr. Mansingh, a Padma Vibhushan recipient, was praised for using dance to highlight women’s empowerment, social justice, and environmental issues.

Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Lok Samvardhan Parv at Raj Ghat in New Delhi. The event showcases key government schemes under the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas. It focuses on the economic empowerment of minority communities, especially artisans and traditional craftspeople. The event includes an exhibition-cum-sale of crafts like Laakh Bangles, Blue Pottery, Banarasi Brocade, and more.

Recently, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) started an official investigation into the Air India flight AI-17 crash involving a Boeing 787. Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is a government agency under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, set up in 2012 to investigate aircraft accidents and serious incidents in Indian airspace. Its goal is to find out what went wrong and suggest safety steps, not to blame anyone.
