On June 18, 2025, the Indian government launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran amid the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. In the first phase, 110 Indian students were safely evacuated from northern Iran. Iran’s Deputy Ambassador to India, Mohammad Javad Hosseini, assured full cooperation in ensuring the safety of Indian citizens. Operation Sindhu highlights India’s active role in protecting its citizens during international crises.

In Bihar, the 11th International Yoga Day is celebrated as ‘Yoga Sangam’ on 21st June in all government schools. The Education Department has instructed all District Education Officers to keep schools open despite the ongoing summer vacation. More than 70,000 government schools have received this directive for Yoga Day participation.

The Maharashtra government has recently made Hindi a compulsory third language in all Marathi and English-medium schools from Class 1 to 5. This decision was announced through a new Government Resolution (GR) issued by the School Education and Sports Department. The policy follows the revised education curriculum under the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). As per the Government Resolution, Marathi will remain the first language, while English or Hindi will be the second language based on the school’s medium.

President Droupadi Murmu recently inaugurated Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashtrapati Niketan in Dehradun. She also opened public facilities like a visitor centre and cafeteria and laid the foundation of Rashtrapati Udyan at Rashtrapati Niketan. A book on biodiversity of these places was released, listing over 300 plant species and 170 animal species. Rashtrapati Tapovan will open to the public from June 24 and Rashtrapati Niketan from July 1.

Recently, scientists from the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, developed a next-generation device that produces green hydrogen using only solar energy. Green hydrogen is a clean fuel that can help decarbonize industries, power vehicles, and store renewable energy, but producing it affordably at scale has been difficult. The CeNS device splits water molecules using earth-abundant materials without fossil fuels or expensive resources, making it sustainable and scalable.

Recently, the Indian Navy announced it will commission its new stealth multi-role frigate Tamal on 01 July 2025 at Kaliningrad, Russia. Tamal is part of the Krivak class frigates that India has been inducting from Russia over the last two decades. The name Tamal represents the mythical sword used by Indra, the King of the Gods, in battles. The frigate was built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.

Recently, a plan was prepared to adjust the boundary of the Critical Tiger Habitat (CTH) of Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan to possibly reopen over 50 marble and dolomite mines closed by a Supreme Court order in 2023 due to their closeness to the protected area. Sariska Tiger Reserve is located in Rajasthan and lies within the Aravalli mountain range, which is the world’s oldest. The reserve is known for heritage sites like Pandu Pol, Bhangarh Fort, Ajabgarh, Pratapgarh, Siliserh Lake, and Jai Samand Lake.

Recently, Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) announced plans to set up its first overseas nano fertiliser plant in Brazil. IFFCO had earlier launched the world’s first Nano Liquid Urea in 2021 and Nano Di-Ammonium Phosphate (Nano-DAP) in 2023. Nano fertilizers are plant nutrients enclosed in nanomaterials that are 100 nanometres or smaller in size. These fertilizers allow controlled release and slow diffusion of nutrients into the soil.

Recently, a major wildfire broke out near the main town of Chios Island in the eastern Aegean Sea, with over 100 firefighters and water-dropping aircraft working to control the flames. Chios is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea, just 8 kilometres off the western coast of Turkey. It is the fifth-largest island in Greece. Chios is known for producing mastic gum and is often called “the Mastic Island.”

Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters, announced 23 winners for the Yuva Puraskar and 24 for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar awards. Sahitya Akademi is the central institution for literary promotion in 24 Indian languages, including English. There is no award in Dogri this year. Notable winners include Advait Kottary (English), Parvati Tirkey (Hindi), Latshmihar (Tamil), and Prasad Suri (Telugu).
