The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has waived additional filing fees for 13 major e-forms due to a planned three-week shutdown of the MCA21 portal. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) launched the MCA21 portal to offer secure and simple online access to corporate services. It automates compliance and enforcement under the Companies Act, 1956, Companies Act, 2013, and the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008. The portal is also designed for smooth interoperability with the National e-Governance Services Delivery Gateway (NSDG).

Due to soaring market demand, overharvesting has pushed wild agarwood close to extinction. Aquilaria malaccensis, also called agarwood, is a tree from the Thymelaeaceae family known for its fragrant resin. Agarwood, also known as Oud, Gaharu or Agar, is one of the most valuable incense materials globally. It grows naturally in Northeast India, mainly in Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur. Its conservation status is Critically Endangered under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), fully owned by the Government of India under the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has won the prestigious Digital Payments Award 2024–25 from the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance. India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) secured the first position among all Payments Banks in the Performance Index for Financial Year 2024–25 and received a ‘Special Mention’ for 2023–24. It was launched on September 1, 2018. IPPB aims to provide accessible, affordable, and trusted banking to every Indian, especially the unbanked and underbanked.

International Yoga Day 2025 is celebrated globally on Saturday, June 21, marking the summer solstice, the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere that symbolizes light, energy, and balance in yogic philosophy. The theme for 2025 is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” focusing on the link between personal well-being and planetary health. The day encourages yoga as a tool for healing, sustainability, and holistic wellness.

President Droupadi Murmu recently inaugurated Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashtrapati Niketan in Dehradun. She also opened public facilities like a visitor centre and cafeteria and laid the foundation of Rashtrapati Udyan at Rashtrapati Niketan. A book on biodiversity of these places was released, listing over 300 plant species and 170 animal species. Rashtrapati Tapovan will open to the public from June 24 and Rashtrapati Niketan from July 1.

Recently, a debate on folk music aesthetics emerged after the Goa State Cabinet declared the Ghumot as the state’s heritage instrument in 2019, without using monitor lizard skin. Ghumot, also called Ghumat, is a traditional percussion instrument used in Goa’s religious and cultural practices. It is made from a clay pot with one side open and the other covered with animal skin, now mostly goat hide instead of the banned Indian monitor lizard skin. The instrument is also important during festivals like Zagor and Shigmo, organized by village committees.

Recently, a tragic incident occurred at Lake Tahoe where a boat capsized, causing the death of six people and leaving two missing. Lake Tahoe is a cobalt blue freshwater lake located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the border of California and Nevada, United States. Lake Tahoe contains extremely pure water, with 99.994% purity.

Recently, the Indian Navy announced it will commission its new stealth multi-role frigate Tamal on 01 July 2025 at Kaliningrad, Russia. Tamal is part of the Krivak class frigates that India has been inducting from Russia over the last two decades. The name Tamal represents the mythical sword used by Indra, the King of the Gods, in battles. The frigate was built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.

Recently, a plan was prepared to adjust the boundary of the Critical Tiger Habitat (CTH) of Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan to possibly reopen over 50 marble and dolomite mines closed by a Supreme Court order in 2023 due to their closeness to the protected area. Sariska Tiger Reserve is located in Rajasthan and lies within the Aravalli mountain range, which is the world’s oldest. The reserve is known for heritage sites like Pandu Pol, Bhangarh Fort, Ajabgarh, Pratapgarh, Siliserh Lake, and Jai Samand Lake.

Recently, a rare sighting of a Himalayan brown bear with its family in Nelong and Jadung Valleys created excitement in Gangotri National Park, Uttarakhand. The Himalayan brown bear is the largest mammal in the high-altitude Himalayas and one of the oldest brown bear lineages. In India, it is found in fragmented alpine habitats of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Its conservation status is Critically Endangered under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
