Recently, the Ministry of Defence announced that scientists from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully demonstrated quantum communication over more than 1 km in free space. Quantum communication is a super secure method of sending information using tiny particles like photons. It uses principles of quantum physics, especially entanglement, to make communication channels tamper-proof. If someone tries to intercept the photons, the disturbance will be detected, revealing the breach. This makes quantum communication highly valuable for defence and national security.

After 250 years, the long-lost ship of Captain James Cook, HMS Endeavour, has been found off Newport Harbour, Rhode Island. The ship was the first European vessel to reach eastern Australia during Cook’s 1768–1771 expedition. It was later renamed Lord Sandwich and sank in 1778 during the American War of Independence. The Australian National Maritime Museum confirmed the wreck after 25 years of underwater exploration and global research. The shipwreck, labeled RI 2394, was identified by matching its structure with Cook’s 1768 plans.

Sheikh Hasan Khan, a mountaineer from Kerala, is currently stranded at 17,000 feet on Mount Denali due to a severe snowstorm. He is attempting the Seven Summits Challenge, which involves climbing the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. His mission also honors Operation Sindoor, a tribute to the Indian Army’s bravery and sacrifice. Mount Denali, also called Mount McKinley, is the highest peak in North America. The name “Denali” comes from the word “deenaalee” in the Koyukon language spoken in Alaska. It lies in the Alaska Range above the Denali Fault in south-central Alaska, United States.

The Energy Asia Conference 2025 was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from June 16 to 18, 2025, bringing together experts, investors, and policymakers from 60 countries and 38 industries. The conference discussed clean energy, hydrogen, digital innovations, and carbon-neutral strategies under the region’s net-zero goals. Asia will need $88.7 trillion in energy investment by 2050, driven by population growth, AI-based industrialisation, and rising demand, especially from data centres. Nuclear power’s future role was explored, with next-gen reactors seen as safer and more efficient for Asia’s long-term clean energy goals.

Recently, Noida International Airport (NIA) partnered with Anlon Technology Solutions to introduce India’s first indigenously developed Runway Rubber Removal Machine (RRM) named Cleanjet RRM. This eco-friendly machine is designed to enhance runway safety by removing rubber deposits and other contaminants using ultra-high-pressure water jets without abrasive chemicals.

Recently, the United States entered Israel’s war with Iran by launching precision strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites using Tomahawk cruise missiles and GBU-57 bunker buster bombs. Tomahawk is a long-range, subsonic cruise missile developed by the United States Navy for land-attack missions. It is launched from ships or submarines using a Vertical Launch System for highly accurate strikes. Tomahawks were first used in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm and have been used in several conflicts since then, including Syria in 2017.

Recently, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated a two-day National Conference of Estimates Committees of Parliament and States and Union Territories (UTs) Legislative Bodies in Mumbai. It was highlighted that these committees play an important role in improving governance and pushing administrative reforms. Nearly 90 percent of the recommendations made by the committees for citizen welfare have been implemented. The use of modern technology was encouraged to further enhance committee functioning.

Recently, France’s national blood agency, the French Blood Establishment (EFS), discovered a new blood group system called “Gwada negative,” officially recognised by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). It is scientifically named EMM-negative and registered as ISBT042. The name “Gwada negative” refers to the Guadeloupean origin of the woman who carries this rare blood type. This blood group is defined by the absence of the EMM antigen, a high-incidence antigen usually present in almost all humans.

Veteran Indian hockey player Lalit Upadhyay has announced retirement after India’s last match in the European leg of the Federation Internationale de Hockey (FIH) Pro League 2024-25 against Belgium. He was part of India’s bronze medal-winning teams at both Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Lalit made his debut in the 2014 Hockey World Cup and played 183 senior matches, scoring 67 goals. Lalit received the Arjuna Award in 2021.

On June 21, 2025, the Union Government announced that June 25 will be observed every year as “Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas” to remember the Emergency imposed in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. On June 25, 1975, civil liberties were suspended, thousands were jailed without trial, and media freedom was crushed. The Emergency is seen as a dark chapter in Indian history due to its suppression of fundamental rights and political dissent.
