Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes sudden, involuntary movements or vocal sounds called tics. It usually starts between the ages of 2 and 15, with the average age of onset around six. It affects around 0.3% to 1% of the global population, as highlighted in recent reports. The condition is more common in boys than in girls. Tics can be mild or severe and may include blinking, jerking, or making sounds. In severe cases, it can impact speech, daily activities, and overall quality of life.

Recently, the Full Bench of Lokpal of India adopted a new motto—“Empower Citizens, Expose Corruption.” Lokpal is a statutory anti-corruption authority established under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. It addresses complaints related to corruption in public offices.

The World Bank has projected India’s economic growth at 6.3% for the Financial Year (FY) 2025-26 in its latest Global Economic Prospects report. India is expected to maintain the fastest growth rate among the world’s largest economies. Growth in FY 2024-25 slowed due to a drop in industrial output, but construction and services sectors remained steady. Agricultural output recovered from severe drought conditions, supported by strong rural demand. Growth is expected to rise to an average of 6.6% in FY 2026-27 and FY 2027-28, helped by strong services and export growth.

The Maharashtra government has launched a new digital system to monitor infrastructure projects using a geo-tagged 13-digit unique identification number. This system is being implemented through the Infra ID portal to improve transparency, real-time tracking, and coordination among departments. It will help prevent duplication of projects and ensure centralized digital records for better decision-making. The system will be piloted in Wardha district first and expanded across the state by October 2025.

Lake Natron in Tanzania is gaining global attention due to environmental threats from climate change and development projects. It is a shallow, hyper-alkaline salt lake located in the Ngorongoro District, Arusha Region, near the Kenya-Tanzania border. It is fed by the Ewaso Ng’iro River and mineral-rich hot springs. Lake Natron is listed as a Ramsar wetland site.

The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) recently announced the successful birth of a mouse deer, highlighting its conservation and breeding success. The mouse deer, also called the Indian Chevrotain, is the smallest deer species and is known for its shy and elusive behavior. It is endemic to the Indian Subcontinent, mainly found in peninsular India, with some old records from Nepal, and a separate species in Sri Lanka. In India, it is seen in Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats up to Odisha, and central Indian forests.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has received India’s first ‘Silver Notice’ from INTERPOL, aiding in tracing crime proceeds abroad in the French embassy visa fraud case. A Silver Notice helps track illegal financial assets hidden across different countries. INTERPOL, originally formed as the International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC) in 1923, adopted its current name in 1956. Its headquarters is in Lyon, France. The CBI also launched BHARATPOL, an online portal for enhancing international police cooperation between Indian law agencies and INTERPOL.

The Government of Assam presented the Srimanta Sankardeva Award to Dr. Sonal Mansingh, a renowned classical dancer and cultural icon. The award was conferred by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati. It honors the legacy of 15th-century saint-reformer Srimanta Sankardeva, who promoted unity, harmony, and ecological balance. Dr. Mansingh, a Padma Vibhushan recipient, was praised for using dance to highlight women’s empowerment, social justice, and environmental issues.

Bihar has become the top state in India for using the ‘Scan and Share’ feature under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), with a 92% online Out-Patient Department (OPD) registration rate. As per the National Health Authority (NHA), Bihar alone accounts for 2.94 crore of the 11.38 crore total OPD registrations under ABDM since 2021. ABDM is a national initiative to build a digital health ecosystem that connects patients, doctors, and hospitals using interoperable systems.

The Maharashtra Forest Department has recently launched a bus safari service at Nandur Madhyameshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Nashik district. The sanctuary is known as the “Bharatpur of Maharashtra,” a title given by famous Indian ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. It is located in Nashik district, Maharashtra. The new safari aims to boost eco-tourism and create awareness about wetland biodiversity.
